Kristen Stewart has spoken about Donald Trump, recalling when he took an interest in her with a series of tweets in which he voiced his opinion about the actress’ personal life.
“He was mad at me a couple years ago, really obsessed with me a couple years ago, which is f—ing crazy,” Stewart said at the Variety studio in Park City, Utah, referencing tweets that attacked her personal relationships in October 2012.
“I can’t even understand it. I literally cannot even understand it. It’s such far-out concept that I don’t want to believe that actually is happening. It’s insane.”
In a series of tweets sent over four years ago, Trump, then best known for his role on The Apprentice, had voiced that Stewart’s boyfriend at the time, Robert Pattinson, should end his relationship with her.
The tweets, which are still live on Trump’s account, came after US Weekly published pictures of Stewart in a romantic embrace with her Snow White and the Huntsman star, which Stewart responded to with a statement of apology to her boyfriend.
A few months passed and Stewart and Pattinson decided to try to make things work, but Trump was apparently none too pleased.
“Robert Pattinson should not take back Kristen Stewart,” he tweeted on October 18, 2012. “She cheated on him like a dog & will do it again — just watch. He can do much better!”
“She will cheat again — 100 certain — am I ever wrong?” Trump added in a subsequent tweet, before saying “everyone knows” he was right that the couple should end things.
“In a couple of years, he will thank me. Be smart, Robert.”
The couple broke up in mid-2013.
Stewart made the comments while promoting her short film, Come Swim, which marks her directorial debut.
When asked how Trump’s tweets in 2012 made her feel at the time, Stewart replied, “At that point, he was just, like, a reality star. I had no reference. It wasn’t like really a thing. But in retrospect, somebody reminded me of that and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, you’re right!'”
She quipped, “He’s probably, like, going to tweet about this.”
