Kristen Stewart’s ‘Snow White’ Dilemma

Kristen Stewart will bring an edgy new twist to an age-old heroine in her upcoming film, “Snow White and the Huntsman” as she transforms “The Fairest in the Land” into a courageous warrior.

However, the 21–year-old beauty says putting a violent spin on the beloved character presented all sorts of challenges.

“It’s hard to play an action hero who is also the most compassionate person on earth,” Kristen said of her Snow White in an interview with Box Office magazine. “You can’t hate. You epitomize bleeding hearts, so how the [expletive] do you do an action movie like that?”

The actress revealed her grittier version of the fairytale classic will demand that Snow White put aside her deep-rooted compassion in order to fight for her people.

“Basically, I’m fighting evil — I’m fighting the most evil [villains] — and it’s fine that they’re being killed. It’s anguish. It’s literally… anguish,” Kristen said of her character’s torturous inner conflict. “She takes absolutely no pleasure in ever hurting anything.”

Though the role presents a tremendous challenge, Kristen appreciates the film’s fresh approach to the story, which blurs the lines between good and evil for the porcelain-skinned princess.

“It’s a really… cool way to approach a movie where so many people die,” she said. “Not that I’m criticizing violent movies — I love them, generally — but it is nice to do it this way.”

Kristen also revealed she’s embracing another tough character – the fanged version of her “The Twilight Saga” character, Bella, who becomes a vampire in the long-awaited series conclusion.

“I sound so lame, but vampire Bella really is my favorite character—she’s very representative of a matriarch,” Kristen told the mag. “She’s very intuitive on almost a psychic level and no one ever acknowledges it, which is interesting.”

Catch Kristen in “Snow White and the Huntsman” — which also stars Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron – when it hits theaters on June 1, 2012.

“The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1” is slated for theatrical release on November 18.
