OT: So I wasn’t on the board yesterday (I lurked a little bit now and then) as my heart was broken. I received a final note from a very, very dear friend who was notifying his family and friends that he was choosing to leave this world because his health had deteriorated to the point that there was no more quality in his life. I will miss him terribly and understand fully his choice. But my heart will hurt for a very, very long time.
I say this just to let you all know that I may not be on the board much in the next few days because even the little I’ve done this am is reminding me of him. Hope to bbl but probably just to lurk and upvote. Thanks for listening.

  • Anna

    I’m so sorry, Eme.
Take all the time you need.

LAT Sundance portrait that was posted yesterday but now in HQ. As I said, it’s really not a good pic.

It’s a sad day up here (Canada). A couple of men just shot up a mosque in Quebec City while services were going on, killing six and wounding several more. Suspects are in police custody, but we don’t know anything more yet, including motive. Wish us well, please. 😢

  • Stephanie

I’m so sorry,MCR. My heart with the families who lost their lives and to the people in Canada. Take care.

  • Anna

Condolences to all the families of the victims and fast recovery to all injured.
As for the rest…I hope you’ll get to find out the truth about what happened and why soon enough. In the meantime, I hope all of you will manage to remain calm and make, in the long run, wise decisions.
Take care of yourself and your family, MCR.

Oh shit, Adir will be doing her hair. Expect…nothing great. She’s supposed to look the best she did in years for SNL but……………………………………….. SMH

    @hairbyadir
Off to shoot SNL this week with my friend Kristen Stewart. So Excited and proud. Now taking off, happy MONDAY. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

  • Anna

Honestly, I can’t remember when was the last time he did something really nice with her hair. If we put aside those extensions for Paris-in-Rome Chanel show in Dec 2015, his last hairstyling job done well was Seoul Chanel cruise show in May 2015. Since then he messed up all of her red carpets that he did (see: Met Gala 2016, Equals premiere, ect.). As a matter of fact, every time Kristen’s hair looked decent in last year and a half, almost two, he didn’t have anything to do with it.
And now SNL, something so many people will get to see. Especially after a week like this one. Huge opportunity for her and it turns out we have to worry not only about how she will handle being in front of live audience but also about her hair and clothes on top of that. SMH
One more proof her whole team is good for nothing.

So, I think I might have discovered something. Maybe. IDK.

Minutes ago, Deadline reports about new project for Viola D. and Julia Roberts by one of producers of LLL. I’m curious so I click to read the article and producer’s name sounds so familiar (Marc Platt). That got me thinking and then I remember he’s somehow connected or was connected to Starlight Studios back in 2014 when Kristen co-directed that music video for Sage (I did *a lot* of digging about all those people back then). So, I go and check his IMDb page and yup, his face looks super familiar. I check his credits and sure, there’s LLL and . . . BLLHW (and I’m like “dammit Kristen, working with such a big producer on a film that probably made him lose his money – talk about bad luck”). But then I scroll down and I see Wanted 2 is also listed there. The same Wanted 2 they wanted to make with Kristen as the lead (don’t think it’s a good idea because everyone would compare her with Angelina Jolie in Wanted) before she dropped it in Feb 2013 (per producer’s own words) so I’m thinking “hmm, they probably do know each other” (btw, couple of other people attached to that project worked with Kristen on Catch That Kid).
But where exactly Starlight Studios fit in this story? Then I remembered it were the family ties so I go back and check his bio and 2 of his 5 kids are in the business. One son’s IMDb page shows no signs of any connection with Kristen but then I open his other son’s page (Jonah Platt, a handsome guy – that’s why I never forgot his last name which started all of this, LOL) and sure, he’s listed as one of producers of that 2014 music video. Next thing I see he has one project in pre-prod and he wrote it (he’s also an actor). I click on that and, what do you know, it’s a movie set to be directed by David Ethan Shapiro – the same David who co-produced Come Swim and is supposed to direct his very first feature later this year which, if we are to trust that Come Swim press kit, is going to star Kristen Stewart. Only, she’s not listed, no cast is. But the story is about (young) woman. So, what do you think?

Here’s the IMDb page of that project: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3465556/?ref_=nm_flmg_wr_1 .

  • Anna

(And this also shows how I like things complicated more than I like them simple. If only I was so eager to check David’s name directly when we got that press kit……….Yeah. LOL)

  • Stephanie

The story is interesting. At this moment we really want Kristen to have any projects she can get. Thanks Anna for such a timing research.

  • CJ

The plot is: On the eve of her Bat Mitzvah, RACHEL LEVINE, the innocent daughter of New York’s most powerful crime boss, faces the impossible choice of informing for the FBI or watching her whole family go to prison for life.

Bat Mitzvah is a religious initiation ceremony for Jewish girls aged 12 years and one day. Kristen can’t be the star. Besides, the press kit was not clear about what Kristen would be doing. It said they would collaborate, but not necessarily as an actress.

  • Anna

Who said Kristen has to be the star of that film?
(Would FBI ask a child to work for them, though? Something doesn’t add up.)

    Read again: http://www.imagebam.com/image/305b04518901094 .
“David is currently in pre-production of his feature film debut as a writer/director shooting in 2017, adapted from his NYU short film, which will be his third collaboration with Kristen.!

This pretty much confirms that’s the project he was talking about (as it is based on his short with same title).

  • CJ

As I said, it says they would be collaborating, but it doesn’t say Kristen would work as an actress. She could co-direct, produce or whatever.

  • BrendaStar

I am so sorry MCR for those who died, were wounded, or effected by this violence upon worshippers at a mosque in Quebec City.

  • Anna

It’s his passion project so I don’t think he will share director’s credit with her. Producing? Maybe (although, I don’t like that idea) but then I don’t know why she’s asking Refinery29 to produce her own shorts (much cheaper than a feature film) if she has money to invest. It doesn’t make much sense but maybe he can’t find other investors (bad sign, if so) and she want’s to help a friend (not a wise business decision on her part if that’s the case). I don’t think him and Jonah will share writing credits with her either so what else is left aside from acting in it?

  • Anna

    You are welcome.

  • BrendaStar

Thanks, Sherlock. That was good sleuthing.

  • Anna

Story, the little we know, I like. But the rest…I’m not so sure. It looks even more amateurish than Lizzie was.
Sometimes is better staying away from projects like that, even if that means not having anything to be released, than accepting them just so you can work on something.

  • Anna
  • MCR

We disagree on this a bit, but I still think it’s probably professional advice that has her limiting hair-washing and using heavy product all the time, which makes her hair look all matted down and oily. Presumably advice from this guy, her regular hair stylist. I know they’ve worked together a long time, but maybe she should try someone else.

  • Anna

I wasn’t talking about her hair during her private time (although, as you know, I think it’s a big problem). This now is about how he tends to do such a bad job styling her hair for events.
SNL is a big deal and she *needs* to show herself in the *very best* light at least when it comes to her whole styling (meaning, at least that if she can’t fully eliminate nervousness during her performance). Because if those both aspects turn out to be not so good and millions get to see it…………………………………

  • CJ

    Same!

  • MCR

As far as nervousness goes, it only seems to happen when she’s *not* performing, but speaking as herself. In character, it doesn’t appear. If she looks at the SNL appearance as acting, she’ll probably do fine.

I’d like to see her hair looking better for events, but I’m not entirely sure how much of the result is a mistake, and how much is deliberate and exactly what she’s going for LOL. And when I think it’s awful, she sometimes gets praise from beauty & fashion pundits. Again, what do I know?

  • Anna

Vote, guys, if you haven’t already. It’s just few clicks.

    https://twitter.com/KSbdayproject/status/826236437603373057

  • Anna

That’s a good point so I hope you are right.
Although, that monologue will be Kristen Stewart speaking, not some character she’s playing. And the monologue is maybe the most important thing for her in the whole episode.

Also a good point. But, as Eme and I discussed it many times before, good professional should be capable of finding a way to do what client asks from him *and* make the end result look good. It’s OK that he listens to Kristen and respects her wishes but he’s the hairstylist, not her.
In this case, I think it’s more important that regular people (SNL audience) find it/her if not pretty than OK looking. And regular people aren’t as fashion forward as those magazines so I don’t think they should risk it.

  • Anna

President Obama signed an executive order before he left office removing Cuba’s special status in US for immigraion with no advance notice. Some Cubans were stuck in Panama on their way here. These immigrants could be jailed if they return to Cuba. President Obama had a 6 month ban on Iraqi travel to this country in 2011. It is not identical, but it hurt Iraqi’s who had helped America in the war. It put their lives at risk! President Obama also had other bans at various times on the 7 nations targeted. These terrorists that train in these countries have committed unspeakable violations. There were young girls taken from their schools who vanished. Lots of evidence that women are sold for sex or as slaves. The entertainers who are self righteous now would have impressed me more if they spoke out about Oscar Inequity when they won! People like Meryl Streep were complicit in this system. Now everyone is onboard.

  • BrendaStar

Link of differences, but there were bans at various times during Obama presidency. No one cared. http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/president-trump-travel-ban-differs-obama-2011-policy-article-1.2959631

  • Anna

I could say so many things that are essentially wrong with what you wrote but, tbh, I’m not going to discuss Trump’s politics here with such details. Because if your common sense isn’t enough to make you understand how terrible all of this is I can’t help you.

Love the styling. My favorite pic (and it was hard to choose because all of them are beautiful) is the one where she is in that lacy dress reclining on the couch. Thanks for bringing this over, Anna. It made my heart sing while I was looking at the beautiful Kristen. When was this?

  • Anna

Sorry, it’s from Nov 2011 issue.

  • BrendaStar

Both orders temporarily block travel to people from countries that encourage, train, and house terrorists. You do not need to reply.

  • Anna

(Compare this to Vogue US cover shoot she had, for example. Or to Vogue FR spread Karl did recently. Such a difference in class: styling, hair, makeup, the set and actual pics. Wish she would do another shoot like this.)

  • MCR

    Certainly a *better* choice!

  • Anna

    Again, not.the.same.
One example? You have people who are, lets say, Iranians but also have citizenship of one of EU countries, lets say UK, where they have been living for decades not causing any trouble and now they can’t get in the U.S. either. How the heck is that fair? And if you are so interested in fighting terrorists why the hell S. Arabia isn’t on that list (country that is one of the main sponsors of terrorism which American people should know the best)? I think you know why.
Read more, inform yourself better. Don’t just rely on the mainstream media.
    I’m done!

  • Eme

Um, could we have this team do her from now on? The hairstyle was incredible, make up was beautiful, the styling so, so wonderful, the photography was without parallel (composition, lighting, everything) – one of the best past shoots I’ve seen. This and Mario’s Vanity Fair(?) shoot are the best that I’ve seen – oh, maybe the one where she looks like Ann Margaret – that shoot was great too.
Oh well, I’ll probably change my mind because I haven’t seen all of her shoots so there’s probably others out there that I’ll love also.
Lovely distraction for me. Thanks, Anna.

  • Eme

Yeah, I kinda thought she looked older than her 2010 self.

  • Anna

AnOther mag shoot from last year was also good. And that Elle FR shoot from 2012, I think, where she’s playing with a dog only because she looks so natural and sweet in those pics. NY Times Style shoot is great in its simplicity but, because of that, it kinda belongs to different category.
Agreed with all of your choices (that Testino’s shoot is — a dream).

  • Anna
  • Anna

It came out in Nov 2011 but I don’t remember when it was done (her hair is not much longer than it was in 2010 and that got me confused).

  • Eme

Oh, is that where this pic is from. One of my favorite pictures of her! Sigh. She does look so carefree and young here. Thanks, Anna for a lovely respite from today. Bbl.

  • Anna

Yup, that’s the one. All pics from that one are great in their ‘spontaneity’ (none of the poses looks forced which can’t be said for Karl’s Vogue FR shoot).

“Actors, in many ways, have been disrupted for years—from the reliance on costumed superheroes to the rise of C.G.I. filmmaking. Many agents whom I’ve spoken with already seem to know this and have moved their portfolios away from Hollywood to include, among others, clients from professional sports. There is a reason we see so many once promising actors, from Jessica Alba to Kate Hudson to Jessica Biel to the Mowry sisters, looking to re-invent themselves in new careers during their 30s and 40s, once their prime. The future augurs less of a need for actors other than, despite Donald Trump’s puerile objections, the Meryl Streeps of the world.

Kim Libreri, who spent years in the film industry working on special effects for films such as The Matrix and Star Wars, predicts that by 2022 graphics will be so advanced that they will be “indistinguishable from reality.” In some respects, that is already on the verge of happening. If you watched Rogue One, you will have noticed that Peter Cushing appeared as one of the main actors in the film, which was shot last year in London. Cushing, who died in 1994, was (mostly) rendered in C.G.I. The same was true for Princess Leia, played by the late Carrie Fisher, who has a cameo at the end. The C.G.I.-enhanced version of herself hasn’t aged a day since 1977. “While stars used to be able to make a movie, now they can hurt it,” one Hollywood producer lamented to me. His outlook resembled Moritz’s: “The movie star, like everything else in Hollywood, is dying.”

  • Anna

“In all of these instances of technological disruption—A.I., C.G.I. actors, algorithmic editors, etc.—there will be the exceptions. Like everything else involving money and creativity, there will indeed be a top category—those who have great, new, innovative ideas, and who stand above everyone else—that is truly irreplaceable. (Indeed, this has proved to be the case in music, journalism, and publishing.) There will be great screenwriters and even great actors. The real winners, however, are the consumers. We won’t have to pay $50 to go to the movies on a date night, and we’ll be able to watch what we want to watch, when we want, and, most important, where we want.”

But, if we are buying things we need from home, watching movies at home, working from home, finishing schools from home, exercising at home, picking who is going to be our next date without leaving our homes, ect. when we will actually go out, meet new people (in person) and socialize with them? Isn’t that ability we have to organize groups of humans in societies (big or small) and live within one and adapt to other members what made us come this far as a species? When you look at all of this that way, future seems — unpleasant.

  • CJ

That’s why I think Kristen’s headed in the right direction when she moves into directing.

  • Anna

Hmm. Not with the kind of movies she’s most likely to make.

Wonder what she was filming there? Maybe a promo clip for her episode.

  • Anna

I think it sounds like she was filming, not getting her hair cut. SNL doesn’t only have live skits, they do some shorts as well.

  • Anna

    And because of that……………..

  • Anna

Well, if you look at the back of her head in this pic, it looks like they fixed it a bit.
And I know they have those. I just thought they won’t repeat what was already done (remember that skit with her on one of those night talk shows when they were joking about cutting her hair in shape of a bowl?) but who knows.

  • Anna

Here’s the pic I was referring to:

Aww they deleted it! It was Kristen on the SNL stage waving hello to the camera and saying she’s rehearsing because she’s hosting this week.

  • Guest

In the now-deleted video of her on stage, it didn’t really look shorter but it did look nice.

  • Guest
  • Anna

I don’t think it’s noticeably shorter just — better groomed, that part at the back of her neck, so that is actually gets to have a nice shape/form.

  • Anna
  • Anna
  • Anna

Even in this short clip she seems stiff. What will happen when she steps out in front of the live audience………………………………………

  • Alfred Birchall

Did you see Felicity Jones about two weeks ago ?

  • Anna

I did. She’s wasn’t usual herself either but she’s not naturally as awkward as Kristen is it was OK. Plus, part of it was intentional.

  • Alfred Birchall

Well in the circumstances Dakota Johnson did bloody brilliant with all the 50 shades skits and her ISIS sketch she did.

  • Anna

Whoever is doing her makeup — no bueno (unless it’s Kristen herself but then whoever from her team let her do it on her own knowing they will post this on-line is a poor professional). So, change it ASAP or work with grip guys in the studio on much softer light.

  • Anna

Dakota J. has no issues with nervousness. She tends to goof around a lot. That was *never* Kristen’s thing.

  • Alfred Birchall

I don’t understand why Adir has made such a balls up of her styling .In the PS pics it was actually growing out quite nicely and since he has been on the case its all bitty and uneven. Maybe CJ could do a better job.

  • Anna

Adir did’t make her bleach it nor make her cut it. His problem is that he does everything she tels him to, he’s not standing up to her when needed.
And now her hair looks — lifeless.

  • Alfred Birchall

Accidentally caught a couple of YT vids last night . Just after Cannes so mid summer last year . She has lost too much weight and it showing in her face and now her legs and backside. She could put on a stone and it would look so much better Also in one shot she has the infamous headband in her hand .So that’s possibly when it arrived on the scene..

  • Anna

I think the first time fandom saw that headband was her 4th of July party.
As for her being too thin…she’s not as thin as she was during PS filming but she’s headed in that direction. Also, her face won’t be as full as it used to be (maybe never again unless she puts a lot of weight on) because she’s simply all grown up now (and if her brother is any reference, it’s going to become only slimmer with time).

  • CJ

Kate Lee is probably doing her makeup She is at the same hotel as Adir is. I liked her look. And she was only rehearsing…

  • Anna

There’s no such thing as *only rehearsing* when stuff gets posted on-line for everyone to see. Rules of the business.
And Kate isn’t exactly the best with her makeup. I like how Beau Nelson did it during NYFF in October.
So we have an inept hairstylist, not so good makeup artist and a stylist who is yet to learn about proper fitting working on Kristen who doesn’t look as well as she can in general lately. Just great!

  • CJ

That’s her team! She trusts them and she loves them! If you don’t like them… your problem!

  • Anna

It’s not about me liking them, it’s about how good they are at what they do. Or you want to tell me Adir is styling her hair perfectly? They aren’t delivering. Period.

  • CJ

This is subjective. You don’t like it, other people do. She’s been listed in most of the lists of best looks. She’s edgy, she is bold. It looks like you are too conservative to understand (and like) Kristen.

  • Anna

As I said to MCR yesterday, she needs to look good by ordinary people’s standard for this. There are times to be edgy and risk it and then there are times when you need to be smart and think strategically.
Sadly, her people never do their best when it’s the most important for her (example: opening night and premiere of CS at Cannes last year; or you want to tell me that dress and nonexistent hairstyle looked good on her?).

  • Anna

I’m glad things are a bit better for you, Eme.

  • Guest

Are you simply incapable of enjoying anything about her anymore?

  • Eme

Starting to get there, Anna. Thank you for the lovely pictures of Kristen today.

  • Anna

Wanting to see everyone around her doing their very best, because they have all the means for it, and saying when you don’t see that happening is perfectly fine. I’m not a person who settles for less.
If you like being happy with average, I won’t object.

  • Anna

    You are welcome.

May tomorrow be even better than today was for you. Slowly, day by day and you’ll get there.

  • Guest

Everything you say is your own subjective opinion, not fact. An 8 second promo clip, and all you can do is criticize her hair, her makeup, her supposed stiffness. Eight. Seconds. I don’t know how you’re going to make it through an hour and a half long episode. you probably shouldn’t bother watching.

  • CJ

Kristen can be called a lot of things but average. She is doing what she wants to do and she is happy doing it. YOU are the one unhappy. She is doing the movies she wants to do, she is directing (her dream since she was a kid), she is working with and is surrounded by the people she loves. She is enjoying her life. She is not conventional, she is not a “traditional” HW star. She is not average.

  • Anna

    Sigh.
Your lack of reading comprehension skills strikes again.
Honey, I never said my opinions are facts. It’s you who are giving them such importance. Wonder why is that. Maybe you should analyze that a bit, hm?

And don’t you worry about me, I’m a big girl. SNL’s got nothing on me.

  • Anna

Exactly! Now we only need to see that Kristen again.
There’s a real world out there that’s far less romantic and idealistic than you are making it to be. I prefer seeing things from that angle.

  • Guest

lol you’ll be here melting down over every promo, every look, every skit. And yes, you 100% state your opinions as facts, as if everyone else needs to believe them. Saying that her styling team is inept, etc. is your opinion. Plenty of other people are happy. Sad you’ll never be one of them.

  • Anna

Nope. What will keep happening on regular basis is you fuming whenever I don’t like something. Again, ask yourself why is that.
Also, your selective memory is quite interesting. I don’t remember saying anything bad about, lets see, her BLLHW premiere look. Or her PS premiere outfit. Hell, I didn’t even have a meltdown when she wore that dress for CS premiere like most of you people.
But, you do you and take my every post as the most important thing ever said in history of this world (which is quite disturbing, tbh, but that’s on you).

  • Guest

Lol the fact that you can’t see that you have an obsession with someone who you despise on every level…I come here to a Kristen Stewart fan site and your drivel about how terrible she and her team are is all anyone can see. Clearly SNL has got your panties in a right twist, like everything else about Kristen.

  • Anna

Hmm. I only see one obsessed person here — you. Object of your obsession? Me.
LOL @ the fact *you* can’t see that.

    Leave that bubble you’re in.

First BO results from France for BLLHW# (it’s showing in only 3 theaters in Paris!). Sigh.

  • MCR

    Oh, Eeyore!

  • Anna

Yeah, like people will gather in their home and say “lets have fun watching this Malick’s-like weird as hell movie”.
Being realistic is not a bad thing, MCR.

  • MCR

I think there may be a happy medium, though, between seeing only the good things in her career (and there are some), and seeing only the bad things (and there are some).

I agree with you in that I don’t see her making Oscar-winning blockbusters. But she may end up in the position of someone like Kelly Reichardt: not a hugely famous director of big financial money-makers, but a well respected director of very good movies that are loved by film buffs. That sounds like a good career to me. Do you see Kelly R as a pathetic failure?

  • Anna

This whole topic was about new direction movie industry is taking. CJ said it’s good that Kristen is going to direct as it seems actors/actresses will become fully replaceable by CGI characters. I disagreed with that as she is not likely to make movie many people will like to see and those films will, just like now, have hard time finding their place in whatever distribution/screening model will be used in years to come. And when your movies have very small chance to reach any audience people will stop investing in them, eventually. Add to that the fact Kristen is a female (read that THR article I just posted) and I think it’s rather obvious directing career can’t be considered as her ‘salvation’.

For her to become a director like Kelly, she first needs to learn how to make narrative movies (she’s far more inclined to impressionist style of filmmaking which isn’t what Kelly does). We’ll see if her gun control movie is going to be more like that and, if so, how good of a storyteller she is.
Being taunting doesn’t suit you MCR. Let it be noted that “pathetic failure” came out from your mouth. I, on the other hand, have nothing but admiration for Kelly. And those adjectives never crossed my mind while thinking about Kristen’s achievements either. For someone who is usually very reasonable, you sure did jump the gun on this one.

As I said, this is AU scenario: bomb in the U.S. and then barely get a release in other countries.

BLLHW will go straight to DVD in Brazil (one of the biggest markets).

  • BrendaStar

My best wishes to Kristen on SNL. I will be rooting for her.

  • BrendaStar

Hi, Anna. You are usually right about career stuff. I am more concerned about her comfort level. She has had problems on tv imo since she appeared on Dave Letterman for that 1st Twi film. I hope she aces it? slays it? I don’t even know the correct word. I never watch SNL, but I remember they ill-used Jennifer Lawrence when she appeared before her Oscar win later that year. Lots of people thought JL looked mean-spirited in attacking other nominees. Hopefully they have good skits which should be a much more comfortable task. Also, kudos to Kristen for taking this upon herself.

  • nuca

I kind of find her way of “awkward” funny, guess her awkwardness will make the showa success, really got me curious now:)

  • BrendaStar

I can relate. I have a cat who was transfixed by promo for some new PBS wildlife show that uses camera disguised as animals.

  • Anna

Yeah, that’s my biggest worry – that she won’t be able to be relaxed enough to pull it off. And that’s exactly why I wish she had the best possible team of people to help her with other things so she could focus only on her performance.
Also, SNL writers aren’t as funny/good as they used to be. I just hope Kristen will be lucky enough to work with them on one of their better weeks.
Agree. Sometimes you never know if you can do it or not until you actually try it for real. In that sense, good for her!

  • BrendaStar

    Adorable!

  • BrendaStar

    Yay!

  • Anna
  • NONA

brendastar, pardon, butting-in here, but i agree with you in hoping that she is comfortable, gets along with the cast & the skits are decent. not sure if there will be an excessive amount on politics since they may be saving up for when alec baldwin is hosting next week (but on the other hand, there is a ton of trump-material from just the last 10 days).

i feel like she will catch hell from the average naysayers on twitter & elsewhere. so i feel we as fans need to be supportive & not hyper-critical of things that don’t matter. i’m proud of her for trying this. alot of us feel that she is very human & imperfect, and we are protective of her as a sister, daughter, or friend.

  • Anna

(And since when is IFC Midnight division of IFC handling PS?! They are the worst. SMH)

  • Eme

“Wait . . . what?” Cute. Want to see the rest!

  • Anna

She’s already receiving criticism for this.
Her kind of humor and her awkwardness aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. Great majority of people don’t/can’t get/stand it. That’s a fact and they have the right to feel that way (Kristen herself said so many times). I just hope they’ll express their opinions in a civilized manner, there’s no need for insults and hate (but I’m not counting on it).

  • Anna

It works fine in small doses. But hour and a half? It might be too much for everyone. Of course, that depends on what kind of skits they’ll do.

  • Eme

Hi! Butting in here but just wanted to say – haters gonna hate no matter what. I read the comments on the SNL clip below and it’s the same old, same old. I’m giving Kristen major kudos for stepping out of her comfort zone and doing SNL (which I never watch but will record just for her) and also directing her short. Wherever this leads her no one knows. For me, I hope it leads to more projects because I’m her fan. That’s all for now.

  • Anna

    Ditto.

(I just like analyzing, sometimes too much, all the scenarios and the possible aftermath of all those things. Analyzing data is part of what I do, after all. LOL)

  • Anna

    How are you today?

Just trying to help Eme to get her good mood back 😉

  • Eme

Trying not to cry and remembering his kindness. Thanks for asking. Posting helps sometimes so, as you can tell, I’m doing more than I thought I would this week.

  • Anna

(Seriously, I have a feeling this will be more of a CXR kind of release, if we are lucky, than what had with CoSM which means – nothing good. Sigh.)

  • Eme

Oh, be still my beating heart! Thank you, Anna. God, the man is gorgeous!

  • Anna

    I’m sorry, Eme……………………….
But if you have to remember him, then it’s better to deal with the good memories.
Wish I could brighten your day somehow.

  • Anna

    (He doesn’t age. Vampire!. LOL)

  • Eme

You put a smile on my face posting Keanu news above. Even through my teary eyes his gorgeousness comes through! So good job, my friend.

  • Anna

Thank god for Keanu, then! LOL

  • Anna
  • Eme

Um, no. Not even close. He will never, ever be a *sparkly* vampire to me. Ever. JS.

  • Eme

Um, idk, this scene kinda had a sexual tension vibe for me. Weird, no?

  • Anna

I’m not talking about vampires forever stuck in Twilight zone, don’t you worry. These are a real deal ;P

  • Anna

(They had that weird on-verge-of-incest thing going on in the book so……………..)

  • Eme

Well then, I agree. Only the real deal will work for the Man. And, I’m digging that his career has taken an upturn since John WIck happened for him. And a love story coming at us, soon. I adored him and Sandra Bullock in The Lakehouse.

  • Eme

Oh, didn’t read the book. Well then, Joe and Kristen captured the quality in their all too brief scenes together. Sigh. Just think what could have been with a great scriptwriter and less focus on the technical side, js.

  • Anna

That and I think he was finally ready to make a real comeback and start acting again.
Lake House…I don’t even remember how many times I saw it. LOL

  • Eme

Watch it every time I see it while clicking through the channels and whenever I happen to see that it’s showing again on any channel. Man, that kiss in the end . . . swoon!!

  • Eme

I think I’m starting to feel better, Anna. LOL. Romance, sexual tension, and Keanu. Works every time.

  • Anna

(They apparently did their job a bit too well.)

Yeah. But we knew that, with the last minute change of scriptwriter, things won’t end well. Which is such a damn shame because that story is so worthy of telling.

  • Eme

    Agree.

  • Anna

I have it on DVD and I think I might ruin it if I keep watching it this often.
The kiss and that red coat. LOL

  • Anna

Good to know what it takes ;P

  • Eme

OMG! Right, the red coat. I never thought about getting it on DVD! But you’re right. It might ruin it for me if I have too much access to his gorgeousness. . . . nah! Never happen!

  • Eme

    😉

  • Anna

Hey, better that DVD than comfort food ;P

  • Eme

    TRUE!!

  • nuca

Let’s hope for the best, the kind of dry humour she prefers is a good choice, add a little sarcasm in the way ( my favorite) and that’s it! Also, I loved each and every interview of american ultra (with Jesse), she is so funny with him, he brings it out of her I guess

  • Anna

    Those were good.
If she could do all the skits in the way she did that Funny Or Die interview with Jesse things might turn out to be OK for her on SNL.

  • nuca

OMG yes, that was the interview I had in mind (when they switched questions?), really hope it goes well, I think she is ready, it is a different experience for her and hopefully it will give her more confidence in TV shows in future

  • Anna

    Yes, that’s the one.
I’m not as confident as you are but fingers crossed, as always.

  • nuca

Now you are making me scared, cause you kind of are always right in your predictions… please, mess up this one time

  • Anna

Hey, I’ve been asking for that to happen since late 2015.
It’s time for the good luck to be on her side for once.

  • nuca

I remember Josh asking her at the SWATH interview if she would like to host, and she said she was not ready.. now is good time, all the best luck to her, everybody has to see her awesomness as we see it, it’s time already:)

  • Anna

We’ll know in 3 days. Three loooooong days…………………………………..

  • CJ
  • Anna

    Yes. Kristen and Adir.

The photoshoot for official SNL portraits.

  • CJ

BTW, Kate Lee did Dakota Johnson’s makeup for Fallon last night. Maybe she is at the hotel because of Dakota and not Kristen. Or maybe she is there for both. And in Kate Lee’s profile on IG she wrote “Chanel US Ambassador”.

  • Anna

She did a terrible job on Dakota J. last night.

  • Anna

That look is going to be similar to her Equals premiere mess of a hairstyle (I see Adir is using many hair pins).
    SMH

  • Anna

Here’s the pic of Dakota J. on Fallon last night from Kate’s instagram (and no, it’s not the bad angle). Kate needs to learn a thing or two about contouring.

    New to Netflix

‘Clouds of Sils Maria’ (Feb. 12)

A famous actress (Juliette Binoche) returns to the play that launched her career decades before, but this time in the role of an older, suicidal woman. Kristen Stewart plays her assistant and Chloë Grace Moretz is the starlet who takes the actress’s original part, that of an attractive young woman.

  • Anna

When, even after you’ve won a Cesar and all those critics’ awards, they still don’t know which character you are in the movie. How is something like this always happening to her?! SMH

    Correction: February 1, 2017
An earlier version of this article misidentified the role played by Kristen Stewart in “Clouds of Sils Maria.” She plays an assistant, not the starlet, which is played by Chloë Grace Moretz.

  • Anna
  • Guest

    Didn’t Lucia do that look?

  • Guest

What’s the problem? That it’s natural?

  • CJ

yes. It was part of the Rouge collection promo.

  • Anna

No, Lucia did her CS premiere look.

Kate also did this which aged Kristen few years (compare how thin her lips are in this pic to how full they were when Lucia did the makeup).

    https://www.instagram.com/p/BFg3D1LrRY1/?taken-by=kateleemakeup

  • Anna

She looks tired and washed out. Area around her eyes looks really bad.

  • Guest

The PS premiere look was obviously a dramatic, theatrical *look* and she achieved that effect very well. And I loved the PS photocall look.

  • Anna

    Oh!

(But what’s up with them starting this promo a month early, PS isn’t a blockbuster. Could it be that Kristen will be busy to promote it in March?)

    https://twitter.com/charlegillibert/status/826932335631278080

  • Guest

No offense to Dakota, but she’s just a homely looking girl. Makeup can only do so much.

  • Anna

I defended that look that night but I do have issues with it (IMO, she didn’t apply foundation well enough).
As for photo call…that concept/idea is good but I don’t like how her lips were done ( color is great but, as I said, compare them to Lucia’s work and you’ll see big difference) and her eye makeup made her eyes look small.

  • Anna

    That’s true.
But a bit of color on her cheeks, some contouring to offset roundness of her face (and fix a bit her forehead) and better work around her eyes (stronger eyeliner maybe) would make quite a difference.

  • Eme

Was that at the Venice Film Festival where she wore that silver Chanel ball gown? I thought her hair looked good that night. She looked beautiful except the damn gown didn’t fit her.

  • Eme

You guys! Her look above is not good, but come on – homely? Ouch!

  • Eme

Lucia would have done a better job. Honestly, depending on the lighting, it looks better in some pics than in others.

  • Anna

She did look good minus the wind and, of course, damn bad fitting.

  • Eme

I am still hoping for a Denzel W. win for Best Actor; either a BP win for Moonlight or a BD win for Barry J. (or both, but most likely won’t happen) and a Best Actress award for either Isabelle Huppert or Natalie Portman (sigh). We’ll see.

  • Anna

She’s far far from ugly but she is ordinary. Nothing wrong with that.

  • Eme

But is that the hairstyle you’re referring to above? Because I thought it looked great except for the wind. Although, there was one pic of her looking up with her arms crossed on her chest with the loveliest smile and expression on her face that I absolutely adored.

  • Anna

Judging by these promo clips, lighting in that studio won’t be good for Kristen (bags under her eyes will stand out even more and if Kate makes her lips look thin again and eyes small – no bueno).

  • Eme

Idk. Ordinary isn’t exactly a great description when it comes to anyone, imo, but especially in HW.

  • Anna
  • Anna

    I get that.
In this case, it means you can meet 10 girls like her on the street on any day.

  • Eme

OMG! But I thought someone else did that – Adir did that? It was . . . spectacularly bad.

  • Anna

    Yup, Adir’s work.

In that video above it seems pins are on the back of her head (not on a side like in that pic) and you can see him creating that messy look.

  • Eme

I guess that’s okay? What do I know, lol.

  • Anna
  • Anna

    It’s perfectly OK.

  • Eme

Let’s hope it’s just for one look and they play around with it a little more. There’s so many ways you can make short hair look edgy these days without a crow’s nest vibe aka the look pictured above.

  • Eme

Captured radiance and beauty right there, people!

  • Eme

Thank you, Anna. Feel good picture for me again.

  • Anna

Those are official portraits and will be used *a lot* for publicity (and will be kinda part of SNL’s history) so they should have done their very best work to help her look good. Only, I have very little faith her whole team.

  • Anna

    Yup!
(And, because we are talking about makeup right now, look at her lips in that pic and compare them to that below from Cannes).

  • Eme

Oh well. Let’s wait and see what it looks like. I’m just crossing fingers that she is relaxed and that the show has good writing and delivery from all participants. And, I’m still hoping for a surprise Alec B. skit with her.

  • Eme

Yeah, I didn’t really dig the makeup on her at the Cannes photo call. But her outfit, hair and long legs captured my attention more than her makeup, lol. With her sunglasses on she looked like the movie star she is!

  • Anna

For the record, I hope I’m wrong and her hair today is very different from that Equals LA premiere look. Please, let me be wrong!!!
(Her hair color is OK now so at least we’ll have that.)

IDK. All of this requires too many elements to fit right in and too many people to have their best week and day on Saturday. We’ll see.

  • Anna

Agree. Sunglasses saved the day when it comes to her face.
Tara did a great job with that dress.

  • Anna

    From your lips………………………………………………..

  • Eme

I’m riding the Hope Train hard for my Oscar picks, as well as, Kristen’s SNL show!

  • Anna

May that train reach its destination .

  • Eme

He must mean March 4th because she’s doing SNL on February 4th, right? And isn’t the release date for PS in US March 17th? So, if it’s March 4th that she’s with Jimmy Fallon, that’s not too far out for the release date, right?

  • Eme

    Crossing fingers, always.

  • Anna

No, she will be on Fallon tomorrow and IFC just said they’ll release final PS trailer on Friday.
Release date is March 10th which is why I’m so surprised by this early promo activity. It’s just odd.

  • Eme

Okay, I guess he got the date wrong in the comment section.
And one word re the early promo . . . IFC. Js.

  • Anna

I think he is mixing Fallon and SNL.

Yea, with IFC you can expect all kinds of odd stuff but this is too weird even for them. We’ll see what happens.

  • Eme

    Yeah, we’ll see.

  • Anna
  • Guest

I don’t think he’s mixing them up – she will probably introduce the trailer on Fallon tomorrow instead of a clip.

  • Anna

Yes but he said Fallon is on Feb 4th in his replies. That means he’s mixing them up.

  • Guest

Oh I didn’t see the replies.

I’m replying to this after I saw the video of Kristen with Beck Bennett. She looked pretty good. Let’s all cross our fingers for her success!

  • BrendaStar

I am going to look for a dvd of The Lakehouse!!

I like her dress and hair. Even a brighter lipstick would have helped so much imo.

    🙂

  • Anna

Not as rare as we think.
And friendship is great but business is business. I have a feeling many of you think we should pretend that the job they are doing is always great just because they’be been her friends for years. IMO, it doesn’t work that way.
I think they must do their best regardless of how long they’ve known each other and when they don’t they should be called out because of that. And if they don’t do better, then maybe finding new collaborators could be an option. If they are real friends, that friendship will remain no matter what. Or you think they can be friends only as long as she’s paying them? Also, never forget that they have other clients so Kristen’s career not doing well won’t affect them – it will be her who’ll be dealing with the consequences.
Long story short: friendship isn’t a reason to not do your job well. Period.

For the 10,000th time — they’re “not doing their best” according to *you*. Kristen is obviously very happy with the job they’re doing or she wouldn’t continue to employ them.

  • Anna

    According to only me?
Did you check that beauty/style poll from Grazia I posted yesterday? What are the scores she got for her clothes, hair and makeup separately? Did you see how many 5s or 6s she got? Now go and google that same poll from, idk, 2014 and you’ll notice big difference (I’ll be nice and won’t mention her Twilight years and how good job they were doing back then).

And ffs, have your eyes checked. That s**t Adir pulled off with her hair for Equals premiere in LA last summer (one of *too many* examples) doesn’t look good no matter how hard you are trying to justify it. Or countless times when Tara did poor job with fittings. Or whichever makeup artist aging her 10 years with the makeup anyone of us could do better.
Being a fan doesn’t mean you have to leave your common sense at a door.

Clouds of Sils Maria (2014), a portrait of an actress.

This evocative All About Eve-esque drama from French auteur Olivier Assayas is better experienced than described, but I’ll give it a go. Juliette Binoche stars as Maria Enders, a revered French movie star who made her career in a film called Majola Snake, where she played a young starlet seducing and manipulating an older actress. With much consternation, she agrees to reprise the play in the role of the older woman, with up-and-coming American tabloid darling Jo-Ann Ellis (Chloë Grace Moretz) as her antagonist. She retreats to the Alps to rehearse with her assistant Valentine (a great Kristen Stewart, who’s own Hollywood trajectory has many parallels with Jo-Ann’s) — a brutal, intensely personal process where art begins to imitate life in strange and compelling ways. The result is a gorgeous meditation on aging, art, performance, storytelling, female friendship, and desire, set in the swirling clouds of the French alps.

  • Anna

Still Alice (2015), a devastating depiction of a debilitating illness.

Julianne Moore won a well-deserved Academy Award for her performance as Alice Howland, a linguistics professor gradually losing her mind to a fast-progressing case of early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. Based on a true story, the film is a fascinating psychological and philosophical exploration of illness and identity — at what point is she no longer still Alice? — depicting how the disease gradually eats away at her memory, her linguistic faculties, her intellect and sense of self, as she fights fruitlessly to cling on to the person she once was. Kristen Stewart — a consistently invaluable scene partner these past few years — plays her youngest daughter.

  • Anna

    I hope you are right.
But I won’t celebrate till I find out who is going to do her makeup now.
If Beau is ready to do something similar to what he did during NYFF then I hope it will be him.

I never saw it – not a big fan of Murray. But lots of people love it. At any rate, Happy Groundhog Day, everyone who celebrate it. (Do people celebrate it lol!?).

  • Eme

Good interview. New tidbits that I want to know more about – her teacher traveled with her – wonder who it was and would love to have a convo with him about the young Kristen.
Jon F.’s take on Hollywood being ” . . . like high school with money.” And that ” . . . the people who do well in Hollywood tend to be the people who did well in high school” mirrors my opinion about awards, roles won, and just the nature of fame/celebrity.
    Like Kristen’s description of herself being ” . . . below-the-line girl”.

  • Anna
  • Anna

That’s the quote I told you about few months ago (remember when I mentioned how Meryl, Sandra B. and JLaw were all high school cheerleaders squad’s captains?).

IDK if that teacher is the guy from this video:

  • Eme

I prefer the way Jillian and Lucia have done her make-up in the past. It probably would be just wishful thinking that either one of them would do her make-up, but, hey, it could happen.

  • Eme

No, I think he was one of the Pang twins who directed the film. I think we got a glimpse of her teacher when she was sitting at the computer with a guy and he was explaining something that was on the computer. Who knows. And great behind the scenes video. She was so well spoken in this video. Idk. I think Twilight Saga and all that went with it really screwed her up royally.
And, yeah, I remember you saying something about high school and the others you named awhile ago. Sorry, I tend to forget posts when we move to a new board.

  • Eme

Olivier and Kristen mirror each other so much when they speak about film making – both talking about going with your gut, whether it’s acting, directing, or anything to do with the filming process. They’re muses to each other!

  • Anna

The part about her taking a history class on set. That’s the guy I’m talking about.

Yup. Damage Twilight caused is too big to ever be completely fixed. Remember that one interview from 2015, I think, when she said she was trying to go back to that carefree fearless girl she was before all that mess happened? That’s IMO one of the saddest things she ever said/admitted because it’s so damn telling.
No problem. I just hope that, after reading that quote yourself, you get the point I was/am trying to make when I talk about Hollywood and the industry.

  • Eme

I love that song. Reminds me of my youth!

  • Anna

She did say they understand each other even without talking.

  • Eme

Yeah, I remember her saying that in the interview, and like you, my heart hurt for her when I read it. I have faith that she’ll find it again (if she hasn’t already – I believe we know nothing about her inner life).
As for Hollywood and the industry – I’m convinced that Kristen will find her niche somewhere and it won’t be mainstream – I don’t think she was ever that girl or that she wanted that for herself. Twilight was a fluke in her filmography – if it hadn’t happened for her, I believe she would have continued in indie films (like she did pre – and now post – Twilight) and been just fine without the fame/celebrity that she never wanted. Jmo.

  • Eme

Yeah, they’re like two parts to a whole. Hey, sorta like PS. Now, that’s a analysis and critique waiting to happen!

  • Anna

I hope she will find a way to use those experiences in her advantage, turn them into knowledge and, with time, in wisdom. Because I don’t think she’ll forget nor manage to annulate all the negative effects Twilight years (including that relationship) left on her
Agree. There’s just this one thing I’m constantly trying to explain here: even if she doesn’t want to be in mainstream projects (aka blockbusters), she can do high quality indies (which usually means working with best directors and casts) and movies that, with the right promo, can spill over into mainstream (see: Still Alice). That’s the kind of career I think she herself would love to have (in one of EW, I think, interviews she said J. Moore’s career is something that inspires her and that’s an excellent example). That way she can live her life as freely as possible (her name recognition will never go away) and give us something we can look forward to.

  • Eme

And, I viewed the video again and I think we both have the same guy for her teacher.

  • Eme

Yes, I would love to see her have a career like Julianna Moore – primarily high quality indie films that allow her to stretch her acting muscles and that receive critical acclaim and, yes, BO creds. And, it can happen – she has the innate talent to get there. And it would be lovely for her fans because we’ll get to see her and enjoy her work for a long while. I think we all want that for ourselves as her fans and most especially for Kristen.
    That said, she’s gonna do it her way . . . . .

  • Anna

True. And I think her way is not going to be anything like Julianne”s. We’ll see if that will be good or bad for us.

  • Anna
  • Eme

    Yup.

Why A-List Actresses Don’t Make Romantic Comedies Anymore

  • Anna

I think Emilia Clarke is trying to get that romantic-comedies sweetheart rep outside of Game of Thrones, though. It’s like they are trying to slowly revive that genre. Which is a good thing, IMO, because if guys can have their good buddies films ladies should have their rom-coms back as well (and actresses would have more work, especially those who are still trying to get their name out there). Nothing wrong with small guilty pleasures in form of silly but perfectly enjoyable films.

Otherwise, a good read about the industry in general (if you read between the lines).

  • Anna
  • Anna

Good but I still prefer the UK one.

  • Eme

I recorded it last night and just saw it. Was coming on to let you know that I got my feel good today just watching his gorgeousness do the skit above and talk about John Wick 2 coming at us next week. The man is aging well – my main crush right now – sorry, Olivier. You have been replaced or, more specifically, *it was always him*!

  • Eme

Silver lining: Somebody there is at least trying to make like they care about PS, js.

  • Anna

(That line always reminds of New Moon ending. Not exactly association I prefer.)

  • Anna

(I’m not buying it. And *nothing* they do will be enough to compensate for that damage they did to Kristen and CoSM. Nothing!)

  • Eme

Oh, and they aired the first SNL commercial with Kristen and that singing guy (sorry, don’t know the SNL people) during the Fallon show last night. It’s getting real, people!

  • Guest

Agree – I love a good romantic comedy. Maybe the genre just needs a fresher, smarter boost.

  • Anna

Yup. Romantic stories that are more in touch with how we live today.

  • Eme

It is from New Moon (I used it on the other board, remember and referenced New Moon). I can’t help it if it’s a great line (who knew one could actually say that about a Twilight Saga film) and it came from the Twilight Saga world! I’ll try to find another line because Keanu doesn’t need any negative associations. Lol!

  • Eme

I was being just a bit sarcastic with that remark. I agree that they will never live that royal f**k up down.

  • Eme

I like that they mention the film festival premiers and Olivier’s Cannes win. Does every country make their own poster? And do they have exclusive rights so that another country can’t use their poster? Just wondering.

  • Anna

    I know…
And it’s not like PS is the last Kriste’s film they’ll ever buy. So we are stuck with them. Sigh.

  • Eme

    Sigh x2 million.

  • Anna

Depends. With indies, UK and France and maybe Brazil and Japan and S. Korea (all big markets) tend to make their own posters (completely different from the U.S. one or just a version of it) if the movie is handled by different distributors (if it’s the same company, then there are usually the U.S. and one international poster). There are also collectors’ posters for some markets (like those painting-like CS posters for Japan).

  • Anna

    Right. LOL

  • Eme

Thanks, Anna. I always forget the distribution side of the film industry when I’m looking at the pretty pictures.

Thanks, Anna. I liked her hair and make-up. I know Beau N. did her make-up. Wonder who did her hair.

  • Anna

No idea. Back then, Adir usually did her hair for the U.S. part of promo and Ken when she had events in Europe.

  • Anna

Bruises on her knees are still visible so expect some talk about that.

The show doesn’t air until after 11 on the West Coast and I’ll be recording it so these little tidbits are nice to see. Wish Jimo could have thought about doing something with the puppies instead of repeating stuff he’s already done. Oh well.

Stunning. This is probably for the photoshoot pics. And yes, I think she’ll be wearing something else.

Leslie. I’m sorry, I’m not familiar with Alessia.

  • Eme

    YES!

  • CJ

    She does!

Leslie is cool. Really funny. And she earned my total respect after what she went through because of Ghostbusters.
Alessia has a great voice but I’m not too familiar with her either.

    😉

  • Anna

    Maybe.
But that lighting is really bad for her complexion.

  • Eme

I think it will be different on Saturday. From what little I know about theater and rehearsals, full lighting doesn’t happen until final rehearsals. But don’t quote me on that.

  • Anna

    Darn time zones.
But, the show just ended and we are still here so………………..

  • Guest

Disagree. The one she wore looks best with shorter hair/an updo so it dangles down.

  • CJ

    He just can’t stop talking…

  • nuca

I already watched it on dailymotion, just want to fangirl with you all:)

  • Anna

I think you can barely notice it so, while it goes well with that top she was wearing, it does nothing for her hairstyle overall, IMO.

  • MCR

Had to remove her shoes for the game, again. Shouldn’t she know by now to wear flats on this show LOL?

  • Guest

Yeah and he’s so full of BS about watching the movies. He probably watches one scene to use as a vague talking point.

  • Anna

    True.
But…tbh, I don’t think Kristen minds that. The more he talks the less she feel the pressure to say something funny and entertain people. There is a reason why she always goes to his show.

  • CJ

Yeah. Well, at least Kristen looked very relaxed next to him. In the interview and specially during the game.

  • CJ

But they looked good during the interview… lol

  • Guest

    Agree.

  • MCR

I guess they looked…appropriate. But I always get a little cognitive dissonance seeing someone like Kristen wearing them.

  • Anna

  • Anna

  • Eme

Hi everyone! Missed the fangirling last night but just saw the episode which I recorded. Kristen looked great – amazingly long legs that were shown off by her outfit which I really, really liked. I thought the top was so intricate and a showstopper that the little bit of hair adornment was, imo, just right. And, sorry, MCR, cognitive dissonance aside, the shoes went well with the outfit. I don’t think flats would have given it that complete edge. She looked beautiful. Beau (?) and Adir did themselves proud last night.
She did well and seems excited to do SNL. And the game was . . . okay. Showed how athletic she is and competitive, too, lol. The puppies would have been adorable but, oh well, we fans can’t have everything!
Anyways, my thoughts this am. Bring on SNL, Kristen!!

NEW PS trailer (a bit too spoilery so you decide if you want to see it or not).

  • Guest

Shocked they put such a spoiler in it. That was a plot point I had no idea about.

  • Anna
  • Anna

Are you being sarcastic right now or not?

  • Guest

I don’t think I’d call those message boards very “critical”. They’re mostly just troll-infested and gross.

  • Guest

    Not at all.

  • gillian kemp

They are full of trolls, but it is sad a handful of people, can ruin things.

  • Anna

    OK. Sorry then.

Well, a) it’s IFC (which should be self-explanatory) and b) for people who followed all the reactions and reviews since PS premiered at Cannes, there are very few things that can be classified as spoilers as most of it was already discussed in one way or the other (which isn’t good a thing but it is what it is).

  • Eme

Is this the one they featured during Jimmy Fallon last night? If so, and maybe I wasn’t paying enough attention, I didn’t catch the spoiler. I won’t view this trailer because I despise seeing a trailer that gives away a major plot line. IFC – who knew you could fall further down the incompetence hole. Smh.

  • Anna

I’ll miss those boards, tbh, because among all the trolling and stupidity, some posters did know what they were talking about so one could learn things reading their comments. Also, those boards on actors’ pages were an OK source of information.
Instead of making them better they are shutting them down. SMH

  • Eme

Beautiful cover, beautiful film. Hope it wins BP. Enough said.

  • Guest

Lol Film Stage says they were being sarcastic btw.

  • Eme

I only went to Kristen’s IMDb message board but stopped doing it about a month ago because it was such an unpleasant experience having to read the trolls’ comments among those that were informative and positive. I won’t miss the trolls at all. Sorry the positive ones get shut down, though.

  • Anna

Not everything is black and white.
I never trusted much those movie reviews and scores on IMDb (everyone who remembers what happened with CXR will understand why) but, at the same time, people did have interesting convos there about actors, industry, careers, ect.

  • Anna

That’s the one only the part that was aired on Fallon wasn’t new at all so if you saw that you’ll be fine.
IDK how big spoiler this new trailer is (because I haven’t seen the movie yet) but people are commenting that it’s a bit too revealing.

Maybe we should ask MCR to tell us how bad it is.

  • Anna

I didn’t post that because of their comment.

  • Eme

    Oh, good idea. Hi, Anna.

  • Anna

It was far worse in the past (and those IMDb trolls have nothing on what I can read about Kristen from people on FB or in other comment sections) so I just didn’t care about them. Plus, you can (well, you could) block the trolls and then all you get to see are normal posts.

  • Anna

    Hello, Eme!

  • Anna

(For what is worth, I’m seeing people who are long time IMDb posters – like, decade or more long – saying they are very disappointed and sad because those boards were their home when it came to all interesting films related things and discussions. They don’t know where to go now. I think we here can relate to that aspect.)

  • Anna
  • CJ

I really think this is the best trailer put out so far. I saw the movie. I don’t think the trailer will spoil the experience to see it. In fact, the trailer is intriguing and it catches everyone’s attention. It make you want to see the movie. And the movie is much more than what it shows in the trailer. The most important questions are not answered in the trailer (will she find her brother? Who’s haunting her?) and it makes you want to see the movie. I liked it!

  • Anna

But does it set the right tone? Meaning, at first people thought PS was a fashion movie based on its title; what if they will think it’s a regular horror film based on that trailer? It’s important because we kinda know it’s not either of that, not really, so if it draws in crowds that are mostly interested in full on scary stories those people might end up feeling disappointed after seeing it which can cause negative WOM and no one wants that.

  • CJ

I think it sets the right tone. It’s a thriller, there’s suspense, there’s some ghosts involved and it’s very emotional (after all the main character is grieving the death of her beloved brother). I think you get all of this by watching the trailer.

  • Anna

    Thanks.
I just hope people won’t think it’s more mainstream (as in, conventional) than it really is because PS is first and foremost an arthouse, almost experimental, film and thus not for everyone.

  • Anna

(I gave in and watched it. IMO, it *is* showing this one *very* important thing only couple of small reviews barely hinted which means you probably don’t know anything about it so this trailer is quite spoiler-ish. Really good trailer but in that one frame…………………………)

  • Anna

(I can tell you now what the spoiler is *without* actually spoiling anything for you, if you want.)

catching up too – her legs looked longer than ever. workouts may have her toned up more than usual, so why not show ’em off with the short-shorts! she also knows how to throw a football as well as hit a golf ball – those weren’t just lucky throws, she drilled it.

ready for SNL! good luck to her.

  • Guest

That outfit and hair were terrible but I loved the makeup.

  • Guest

Maybe this is the SNL photoshoot. They intersperse photoshoot pics in the show during commercial breaks.

  • Guest

I don’t know if I’ve ever heard her music but she seems sweet and made her ambitions come true.

    Too beautiful for words

  • Anna

Maybe. But I think those were done few days ago.

  • Anna

Outfit was OK. Risky as hell but she pulled it off (different shoes would have been better, though), IMO.
Hair…we’ve seen far worse (example: CS premiere).

  • Eme

    Yeah, well, IFC.

  • Eme

I hate to say this but I’m wondering if she’s preparing to do the JT Leroy film since her character had shoulder length brunette hair in real life. She’s going to have to wear a blonde wig as JT. Idk. Just a random thought – don’t know what the status of that film is.

  • Anna

I think JT LeRoy had a short hair with big undercut on one side of her head (but I’m not 100% sure) in her real life so, if true, she going to have to cut off her hair.

  • Eme

Oh. Maybe I’m thinking of the actual author. Oh well. So maybe it is for a shoot (ah, could it be for Chanel?).

No film has stayed and resonated with me from Cannes this past year as much as Olivier Assayas’s Personal Shopper, an eerie ghost story/character study laced with dark forebodings entirely entwined with our current political moment. IFC has just dropped a new trailer which focuses aptly on Kristen Stewart’s riveting performance as a buyer and stylist to a Davos-set celebrity socialite. Intrigued with the paranormal in all its historical dimensions, Stewart’s character is grieving her recently deceased brother while exploring the possibilities of communication in an age in boundaries are increasingly blurred. IFC releases the film on March 10. (And read my interview with Assayas and Stewart in the current print issue of Filmmaker.)

The Act of Acting: Clouds of Sils Maria

Let us no longer entertain the embarrassingly outdated notion that Kristen Stewart is a bad actress. In advance of her new partnership with filmmaker Olivier Assayas, Personal Shopper, entering U.S. theaters on March 10, watch their first pairing in this exquisite 2014 drama about an aging actress (the wonderful Juliette Binoche) preparing to restage the play that once made her famous, with Stewart, finely nuanced and heartbreaking, playing her loyal assistant. As they vacation through the Swiss mountainscape of the title, these two performers are locked in a ballet out of step with the changing modern world, until they are forced to acknowledge that fame, beauty, and life are fragile, fleeting things. Available February 12.

It’s everywhere, and not just in this fandom.
Plus, that monologue is going to cause quite a commotion (within both fandoms and among general public) so, IMO, it’s better for people to be aware that something like that is coming.

Rehearsals are one thing, the real show is something else.
Lets hope she’ll be as good.

So far, it’s all about the F-bomb.

It’s not bad (because this episode is really good and she’s good in it and people are enjoying it) but it might be all general public will get from the whole episode instead of paying attention to other skits she did.

BTW, Mellisa M. stole the show.

    Hi guys 🙂

Just saw the monologue and some of the sketches, and she (for the most part) nailed it – a couple of very small hiccups but nothing serious, which will ease a lot of fans that was scared she would blow it. She didn’t. 🙂

But there will undoubtedly be a lot of foul reactions to her “I’m soo gay” comment, but she can take it now, and frankly I don’t think she cares about all the hate anymore. 🙂

  • MCR

I thought she was great. Some of the sketches were so-so (like that Willy Wonka thing), but there was also some very funny material, and Kristen aced her parts.
I thought the opening monologue was a nice way to take the steam out of public criticism by laughing in its face. You’re right, she doesn’t really care about it any more, and that’s good.

You know me, wish she would play a character like this one in a movie.
One of many things SNL showed to people is how different Kristen *can* be. Now she just needs to find roles like those but in real films (but watch her do the opposite – moving on to directing).

I’m seeing many people saying they laughed a lot but also felt kinda guilty about it because those political skits are way too close to reality (which is everything but funny).
So Peter is right when he says that SNL will have to find some sort of balance: keep making those skits about politics and social issues (because, the worst thing anyone can do now is staying silent) but also offsetting them by material that is genuinely funny commentary of human behavior in general that most people can relate to on some level (and thus get away from real life problems at least for that one hour or so).

“… delivered another set of strong numbers last night, averaging a 5.0 Live+same day household rating in the metered markets and a 2.5 adults 18-49 rating in the markets with local people.
That was on par with the post-inauguration show two weeks ago hosted by Aziz Ansari (5.1, 2.5) as SNL, with Trump in office, is posting its highest ratings since the post-elections Nov. 12 telecast hosted by Dave Chappelle (6.2 HH rating, 3.9 in 18-49).”

    Hello everyone,
I have been out of country for job assignment. I find time to lurk the posts and could not wait to come home to watch SNL recorded. Looking at the twitters that Anna brought over and some other posts that have praised Kristen, I couldn’t be more happier. As always thanks Anna and everyone on this board.

  • Guest

Jenny Slate was famously fired from SNL for dropping it in her first skit. She’s not the first to have been booted for it. Hopefully the great reviews and everyone’s nonchalance make up for it.

  • Anna

    Have a successful trip, Stephanie!

  • Anna

Hmm. But did Jenny do that on purpose (as a way to make a point)? Because with Kristen it’s a case of words simply slipping out unintentionally and she apologized (sorta) for it immediately by joking about it. Plus, it wasn’t aimed against anyone (meaning, ironically, it was a compliment for the show, lol)
We’ll see what happens. It’s not like Kristen will get another opportunity to host it this year (and probably not even next) so plenty of time for people to forget it. Maybe.

Me too but only if the fitting is *really* well done (especially the jacket).

  • Eme

I was just thinking about that this am!!!

  • Anna

Yeah. Kristen was just a guest, after all, not a cast member.
I think time will help her (it’s not like she’ll need to host it again any time soon).

  • Eme

Enjoy wherever you are, Stephanie. Stay safe and come back when you can! 🙂

  • Eme

With all the positives mentioned, it really deserved at least an A-.

  • Anna

    Or at least B+.

  • Eme

I guess if he grudgingly has to give it a higher score than B+, yeah. But it really deserved an A range score. But, that’s me.

  • Anna

That company got so much promo from that skit last nigh……………………………………

  • Anna

At the end of the day, it’s all about tastes so we can take it as just one person’s (educated) opinion.

  • Eme

    Yup.

  • Anna
  • Anna

(And because Lady Gaga didn’t pull off anything “outrageous” during SB half time show, I think SNL and Kristen will remain hot topic. Which is good but is also bad.)

  • Guest

It’s not bad in the slightest. Like not at all. Her popularity is at an all-time high. She hasn’t been this relevant in the mainstream (and positively so) maybe ever, and certainly not since 2012. She has gotten a ton of love.

  • Anna

Yes but this is ‘here today, gone tomorrow’ kind of love. They aren’t interested in her personality, career, ect. When someone else does something as cool they’ll move to celebrating that person and that will be it. This is all very fleeting (these people aren’t becoming her fans, they are just filling their time with what/whoever is having the biggest buzz at the moment). It’s living in a bubble, an illusion.

  • BrendaStar

I liked his analysis. He thought Kristen was the 2 reason ratings were so good for SNL last Saturday. He acknowledged her fans too.
“2. Kristen Stewart… There are a ton of fans of hers out there who loved her in “Twilight” and some of her indie work since then. The thing that remains a surprise to us is how it took this long in order to get her on board the show. We also know that Cara has plenty of fans out there, as well!”

  • Guest

…and? Even if the public love is fleeting, that doesn’t make it bad. She earned herself a lot of good will, period. Only you would try to paint the “bad” aspect of it out of nothing as the world is singing her praises.

  • Anna

That’s the thing, I don’t see that good will accumulating, I just see people (not everyone) using her for their own fun (nothing wrong with that, she’s part of entertainment industry after all) till something else comes along.
What I’m trying to say it that I’m thrilled SNL was such a success but I don’t think it changed anything for her (with certain population it might even get worse for her). I guess I’m not so caught up in this feel good “hysteria” and I saw it happening so many times to other people to know not to count on it. As always, time will tell.

  • Anna

  • Anna
  • Anna
  • Eme

Anna, I’m not counting on it changing anything exterior for Kristen. What I am happy about is that she turned the tables on her haters who have accused her of everything from “hiding” her sexuality to pandering to the public in a bid to gain popularity (that notion itself gives pause to anyone who has even an inkling of critical thinking skills). The fact that she was okay to use a really terrible time in her life to poke fun not only to you know who (which, after all, is what the monologue was all about) but to embrace her self and stay true to herself is a signal (to me, at least) that she is at peace with her past. And, more importantly, whatever this may or may not do to her career, she’s A okay with it. Just my opinion, as always.

  • Eme

    Waiting patiently for the miniKristens!!

Thank you, NONA. I agree that timing was everything for Kristen on SNL. And I think she’s getting a lot of positives because it was not only timely but very important for this time we live in now, as you allude to in your post.

  • Eme

Oops, I started to watch it and think I saw some of the spoiler scene. Which had been briefly alluded to in some of the reviews of PS. God, IFC is just . . . .

  • Anna

(Don’t hate but, putting aside this immediate positive response that, because of its nature, won’t last long, everyone else will gain more than Kristen from all of this. There is a reason why *none* of the studios nor production companies didn’t publicly comment on these EOs *he* signed. That is a clear sign of the kind of attitude they are taking. Just sayin’.)

  • Eme

I guess it doesn’t surprise me that none of the studios or production companies have said anything – unless it benefits them profit wise, mum is the word. But I don’t see that drawing a direct line to Kristen. But maybe I’m missing something. Moi, hate you? Nah, we are all just expressing our opinions.

  • Anna

    Merci, mon cheri.

IMO, it kinda sets narrative they are going to follow from now on which can be described as “don’t rock the boat”. Kristen is doing the opposite from that.

  • Anna

I guess IFC is screening PS for those who didn’t manage to see it at Cannes/TIFF/NYFF. There was one screening already this last Friday.

  • Eme

Well, she’s not the only one so there is that. And, she really has never been one to stay in the box or color inside the lines so to speak.

  • Anna

True. It’s just that those other people usually have someone influential enough watching their back while Kristen kinda gets left alone when things become tough (immediate aftermath of the scandal proved that: who, except Jodie, came to her defense when the media lynching started?).

  • CJ
  • Eme

True. But maybe this time will be different. I hope so.

  • Anna

    There’s always hoping.
But I don’t think things improved when it comes to that.

  • Eme

You know me – always riding the hope train! It worked for SNL, js. 😉

  • Anna

Hell, I’m freaking glad it did !!!

And certain fandom will go with “fake news” or “alternative facts”.

And here it is, that famous quote I like to repeat often because it’s enormously telling:
“I would have been very happy just working from job to job, paying my rent one movie at a time,” she said on Conan back in 2012. “I never wanted to be this famous. I never imagined this life for myself.”

  • Anna
  • CJ

“Being the savvy young woman she is, you don’t need to tell Stewart that she hasn’t won over everybody along the way. And it’s quite possible that even the news that she’s being widely applauded for her SNL hosting debut didn’t merit too much more than a shrug and a smile.

But we hope it was a big smile.

Without question this is a new era for her, professionally and personally—and she may need to brace herself, because more people than ever are going to enjoy being along for the ride. It took a few years, but the appreciation of Kristen Stewart is finally underway.”

Kate McKinnon is one of the best. It was fun to see them in a skit together. They should do a movie. Kate gave Kristen a big hug at the end, I think everyone was really happy for her and liked her a lot. She looked stunning in this skit.

  • Anna

Kate will be presenting at Oscars this year and I’m hoping she’ll be in one of their skits as well. She’s born entertainer.
As for Kristen’s look…great wig (watch and learn Eclipse hair department people!) and dress but oh my, do those shoes look uncomfortable (but necessary).

  • Anna
  • Anna
  • Guest

She apparently had done a filmed sketch at the Oscars luncheon yesterday where she portrayed an old Hollywood star advising the nominees on the do’s and don’ts of making their Oscar acceptance speeches. She had the room dying of laughter.

  • Anna

    I know.
    I saw parts of it.

  • BrendaStar

I really like it! It looks like her head is auditioning for a coin or medal.

  • BrendaStar

Those remarks represent a conversion for E! who often IMO threw shade over her personally and professionally.

  • BrendaStar

Also instead of coloring her hair, cutting hair, or using extensions, why not use a wig for some film roles.

  • Anna

(And back then in 2012/2013 was a mouthpiece of her ex.)

  • Anna

When they are good, I think it’s OK to use them (but Kristen said she hates them).

  • BrendaStar

She carried herself like a model. I would love to see her in a film that is light and fun.

  • Anna
  • Eme

Lol, don’t say the shoes were necessary to MCR, Anna! And . . . she looked stunning!

  • Anna

Well, they were! She gotta play the character right. Not even MCR can object that. LOL

  • Eme

    She’ll object, trust.

  • Eme

I liked Sasha Stone’s analysis below about BLLHW. And, I agree with her.

  • Eme

It was a very nice article. I’m going to be measured in my opinion because E! doesn’t exactly have a great track record for me in regards to Kristen. Good for them that they are finally recognizing what we fans knew all along – that Kristen is an exceptionally talented, intelligent, humble actress and overall badass woman!

  • MCR

I agree, they were a necessary part of the character. I can’t object if it’s for a role. (But wearing them in real life IS internalized misogyny! ✊🏼)

  • Eme

Agree. You won’t see me wearing those things! First of all, my bunions and old bones won’t allow it, and second, I would be the one who falls and kills herself wearing those heels.

  • MCR

What an embarrassing way to go, eh?

  • MCR

That was a good article, and great take on Billy Lynn’s lack of success: “People recoiled and missed everything great about it. Everyone wanted a milestone, but nobody was really ready for it. Turns out the mix of truthfulness and ambiguity of a film like Billy Lynn isn’t designed for the Oscar machine to digest.”

  • Eme

IKR? But, it would be hilarious and unique – which is what I would ask for if I had a choice in my passing – leave them laughing to the end is what I say!

  • Anna

    That’s why I posted it.

  • Eme

    Yup!

  • Anna

    Ha! See, Eme ;P

  • Eme

    You’re da bomb!

    Thanks, MCR 🙂

  • Eme

    Hahaha!!

  • Anna

Not if they are Loboutins. ;P

  • Anna

You are right, I do *love* wearing pants!

  • Anna

    Agree.

  • Eme

Ah, but are they *smart* pants?! And, no, not like fashion smart!

  • Eme

They would not be Loboutins – lol, not even close.

  • Anna

    Mine are both ;P

  • Anna

    Shhhh, pretend they are 😉

  • MCR

Title for future fashion-themed murder mystery: The Corpse Wore Loboutins.

  • Eme

It wouldn’t matter. Remember, I’m gonna be dead lol!!

  • Eme

Hey, I love that one! I’ll play the corpse. It’ll be the only time I will get even close to a pair of Loboutins!

  • Anna

(I think they already made that one. LOL)

  • MCR

    Darn!

  • Anna

Yeah but who says you can’t go with style.

  • Eme

And I missed it?! Unfair!!! LOL!

  • Anna

(We can always make a sequel/spin off/prequel/remake though. That’s the thing now, I hear.)

  • MCR

It seems to be. Especially in Hollywood. Creativity is at an all-time low.

  • Eme

Well, everybody will be laughing about how I died so I don’t know if they would even notice. But then, I like that I would be going in style (and expensively, I might add). Ha!

  • MCR

Direct her again! This time in a weird little indie.

  • Anna

Who cares. As long as it sells, right?

  • Eme

    YES!!!

  • Eme

    True. All true.

  • Eme

Although, Twilight was suppose to be a weird little indie, js.

  • Anna

Seriously though, I don’t understand why she isn’t working more, getting more jobs.

  • Eme

She’s the wrong gender, Anna. We all know what the game is in HW.

  • Anna

Well, as long as she stops doing auditions in her own bedroom, I think we are going to be safe. I swear that set the whole phenomenon off. LOL

  • Anna

I know, I know. But not even a micro indies?

  • BrendaStar

Not of huge interest but another win for Kristen. Forbes published some expert on AI who opined that Kristen deserved to have her name on that AI paper that was recently released. ” ..let me address the question of whether Kristen Stewart deserves to co-author the paper since this has been discussed in other answers. I hope my opinion is obvious by now: Kristen does deserve to be a co-author for sure. Again, this is an application paper (or artistic creation paper). The role of the artist/creator is as important or more as the role of the AI researcher. In fact, here is a little secret for you, I am sure Kristen contributed
more to what is described in this paper than many famous professors or researchers who are added to PhD student papers.” http://www.forbes.com/sites/quora/2017/02/07/actress-kristen-stewarts-research-paper-on-artificial-intelligence-a-critical-evaluation/

  • Eme

I did think it was kinda weird that the audition was in her bedroom. I think you’re right – it could only go one way after that! LOL

  • MCR

That does seem odd. Twilight or no Twilight, she seems to be a good director.

  • Anna

    You tell them!

  • Anna

(Small indie, remember. No money to do auditions elsewhere.)

  • Stephanie

    Lol. Eme!
    I agree!

  • Stephanie

Lol. The fun show is back!

  • Eme

Heyyyy, Stephanie!! Great to hear from you. Hope you’re doing well!

  • Anna

Yeah. That movie she did before Twilight should be good of a recommendation on its own for more films. Who knows.

  • Anna

    Hello there!
    You good?

  • Stephanie

Thanks. I have a good day and a bad day. Bad when memories of my mom is in mind. But I try to move on.

  • MCR

She does have one listed as ‘pre-production’ – looks kind of like a more serious version of Mean Girls.

  • Eme

I could be wrong but wasn’t there something about her having disagreements with the powers that be about Twilight direction. If true, then not only is she the wrong gender but a talented, highly opinionated one at that. And you know HW doesn’t go for that.

  • Stephanie

Yes. Sometimes as I said to Eme below.

  • Eme

Yes, I hear you and understand. Hope the board is helping with that. It does for me.

  • MCR

Maybe lightning will strike twice. 😉

  • Eme

    Yes, please!

  • Anna

I think she did everything they asked her to do (they kept cutting her budget off so she had to change many scenes, ect.) but after it became such a success she tried to get what any male director in her position would but Summit executives didn’t want to hear any of it (there’s that quote from her about the car).

  • Anna

    I wish her luck.

  • Eme

It had to be in the bedroom? I mean, the living room couldn’t do?

  • Anna

I know how it feels, Stephanie. But I promise, it will get easier with time. It will help you to adjust and to only remember the very best things about her.

  • Anna

(It was easier to get them to become their characters. That first kiss happens in Bella’s bedroom, after all. Everything for creative process. LOL)

  • Eme

Remember, I came on board after all the Twilight films were done so I don’t know about the car – just that she had some difficulties with the big, bad powerfuls.

  • Stephanie

It means a lot to me for saying that Anna. Wish we are related in life.
    Gif please!!!!!

  • Anna

That quote is recent (like last year recent). I think it’s from Guardian article about female directors. I posted it on IOKTBY.

  • Stephanie

It does. I laugh every time with you and Anna convo. Thanks my dear.

  • Eme

You know, I really did like Twilight. When I read the books, Kristen was definitely what I imagined Bella to be in *real* life; but the Edward I imagined was different – still don’t know what actor I would have chosen for the role.

  • Eme

You’re welcome. And, any time. Just imagine how we would look if we actually had the convo in real time! Now that would be hilarious!

  • Eme

Oh, ok. I’ll look for it.

  • Anna
  • Eme

    Awwww.

  • Eme

    Sigh. Figures.

  • Stephanie

Haha!! Thank you. And forgive me acting like a little kid asking for candy.

  • MCR

That was my take as well. He didn’t seem right for the part, although I didn’t have another actor in mind, either.
(I didn’t really like the books, but I thought turning the concept into movies had a lot of promise if they were handled properly – which they mostly weren’t IMO.)

  • Anna

    Yeah.
I must confess I couldn’t go through all the books because they are so poorly written but I did read the first and second one.
That was Pattinson’s decision to play Edvard in the way he did (there’s a quote from him that he envisioned Edvard as a psychopath so he played him as such). Who knows how it would have been without him because their chemistry was the key to that huge success (it definitely wasn’t the writing).

  • Eme

You get to ask for anything you want, my dear Stephanie. Candy is good anytime!! And in any form!!

  • Anna

Well, you seem to like anime so……………………. 😉

  • Stephanie

    I love it. Thanks Anna.

  • Stephanie

    :)😘

  • Anna
  • Anna
  • Eme

Yeah, the books were . . . .! In fact, I actually didn’t start reading them until 2012 happened because I just could not believe the hoopla around these actors and wanted to research and try to understand it all. I am sure someone has written a dissertation on the whole Twilight phenomenon. It was . . . baffling.

  • Eme

Psychopath? Hmmm . . . sorry, it got lost in translation. But agree with you that their chemistry made it.

  • Eme

    Awww!! Love!!! Thank you, Anna!

  • Eme

    Well, it worked. LOL!

  • Anna

    In more ways than one.

  • Anna

If they didn’t, they should. There’s enough material for half of dozen of serious studies (and all of them need to pay attention to how Kristen was treated because she played Bella, among other things).

  • Anna

Nope, he really said it – Edvard was a psycho in his opinion.

  • Anna

    Agree.

  • Anna
  • Anna

Ang about Kristen: “She’s a good actress and very very serious about acting. Gave a lot. She’s an excellent actress.”

  • Eme

I guess he keyed into Edward’s desire for Bella despite knowing it was all wrong (amoral, if you will) but the definition of a psychopath has many more layers than just that (in fact, a psychopath by definition does not have the ability to form meaningful relationships or ability to love) so that’s why I said playing Edward as a psychopath got lost in translation.

  • Eme

We know, Ang. So, direct her again, please. But please, more attention to the script and less on technology. Thank you.

  • Eme

And, despite the poor writing, I didn’t see Edward as a psychopath. Just a dead 17 year old who got woke when he found his true love LOL!

  • Anna

I wish Kristen had a skit with him.

My wish – surprise guest. Isn’t she still in NY? Js.

I still can’t get over his Heath Ledger comparison and how he remembered her from Into the Wild.

  • Anna

Pretty much that. A 100 and something yo in a 17 yo boy’s body who knows so much and yet is quite clueless.

  • Anna

I think his explanation was that a 100+ yo virgin boy can’t be all that healthy in his head.

  • Anna

Life of Pi was great despite technology so, IMO, well written story is the key.
And yes, please cast her in one of your next projects please!

  • Eme

By all accounts from those who read it, BLLHW was written well, so it wasn’t the story itself that didn’t succeed.

  • Anna

Script, I was talking about the script. No one ever managed to make a good movie based on a bad screenplay.

  • Eme

LOL!! Man, romance is dead!! Not that I necessarily believe this, but whatever happened to waiting for the right one; but, yeah, 100 years is a long time to wait!

  • Eme

Oh, sorry, misunderstood. Yes, yes, a badly written script will always kill a film.

  • Anna

Well, I don’t think he had any other choice tbh. You know, his circumstances were quite…extraordinary. LOL

  • Eme

And, please, I never took Twilight seriously. It was all fun until some crazy fools decided it was real. I was just responding to playing Edward as a psychopath – you know, my mental health career background.

  • Anna

    I got you.

  • Anna

And because we talked so much about Twilight today…………. Next year it will be a decade. Sigh.

  • CJ
  • Anna

They should send Kristen gift baskets of their products every day for a year. LOL

  • MCR

Aw, she was just a child!
I can’t help but wish sometimes that she’d skipped Twilight and actually followed the expected path of paying the bills with indie films “nobody ever sees.” Might have been easier on her, and possibly better movies for us.

  • MCR

Exactly. It could be a great story if you take it as an updated folk tale or mythology. You know, like the brave heroine who goes to the Land of the Dead to be with her lover. But it just gets stupid if you take it too seriously.

  • Anna

Thing is, she did exactly that, MCR. Twilight *was* supposed to be just one more indie for her. Who knew it will also be one of those rare “lighting in a bottle” kind of events.
I think the biggest price she had to pay was the big worsening of her social anxiety (and all that goes with it). She was such a carefree kid before all of that hit her in full force.
    Sigh.

  • MCR

True, she wasn’t trying or expecting to get on board a huge, successful franchise. As she’s said herself, it’s opened doors for her, but there was a high price to pay.

  • Eme

Seriously though. She’s reportedly a vegan so . . . . They do owe her big time, js. Lol!

  • Eme

Yeah, when I said I liked Twilight, I meant the film lol! And it’s all fantasy except people started displacing all their weird issues on the real life actors lol!

  • Anna

There’s also this (I know it’s all one big guessing game of what ifs): imagine a scenario in which her and Pattinson never dated, imagine a world in which Robsten never existed. IMO, Twilight became such a big deal because they were a couple in real life. Without that it would have been just another franchise. Much smaller, though, because, again IMO, 70% of fans of Twilight were shippers and they were the driving force behind all that tabloid mess. So not only that without Robsten Kristen’s fame would have been far from what we saw (thus making many things so much easier for her), she could have remained her own person (Robsten completely swallowed her identity because at the time *everything* she did or said was connected to him – what Rob thinks about that, does he likes/approves what she was wearing, the way she was walking, who she was hanging out with, roles she was picking, ect.) which is crucial for someone who was going through most important formative and self-discovery years.

  • Anna

Not only that, they started treating it like it was supposed to be some sort of a guide/textbook for young girls and teach them how to live their lives. Which is such a BS on so many levels (one of them being the fact they never do that with other movies dealing with similar subject(s) that have a male lead).

  • Anna

Yeah, I know she vegan but she could use those pizza rolls for when her friends come over. LOL

  • Eme

Oh, somebody do a dissertation on the social implications of the role assignments in the Twilight book and saga series and then the role social media played on the perpetuation of those implications. There must be somebody doing it! It’s just too juicy a subject to not do – or maybe it’s just me.

  • Anna

No, it definitely isn’t just you.

  • Eme

Lol! You wanna come over and Totino as Lindsay B. would say!

  • Eme

    Lol.

  • Anna

(You know, just after I posted that I realized, if she was to do it – make those pizza rolls for all of her friends – Kristen would be exactly like Vanessa’s character at the beginning of that commercial. LOL)

  • Eme

    Hahaha!

  • Anna
  • Anna
  • Anna
  • Anna
  • Anna
  • Anna

    Few side notes:

    * international press is picking up on the “coming out” aspect of Kristen’s SNL appearance and is all about that; she’s in danger of becoming gay cellebrity instead of actress who happens to be gay (saw it happening with others and it’s usually, in the long run, a career killer); time will tell.

    * R. Sanders (yes, *that* guy) has directed his first film after SWATH; Ghost in the Shell is scheduled for March release and its promo is in full swing (covers for ScarJo but also covers of big movie mags); now, I don’t expect any negative effects on Kristen (I think studio’s PR person in charge for this will keep journalists in check during press junkets) but there’s always that theoretical possibility, especially now when Kristen is kinda a hot topic (GitS is Sanders’ first movie after SWATH so if anyone starts the talk about his career and how working on this movie compares to working on that movie when both have strong female leads played by top actresses of the moment, ect. – you know how baiting works); as always, we’ll see.

  • Guest

You declared her career dead and over anyway, so what’s the difference? I guess just an opportunity to do it again. It’s news, so of course it’s making headlines.

And I wouldn’t worry too much about that guy or his movie, the same way there was no need to worry about SWATH2 release, for which Kristen got the last laugh.

  • CJ

International press is picking up on Kristen mocking Trump and her “Coming out”and they are loving it!

  • Anna

Mocking Trump was the first wave of reactions, now I’m seeing wannabe think pieces about her coming out. Articles are neutral to positive (written by LGBTQ journalists usually) but reactions from ordinary people aren’t as great.

(Never forget press loves things/stars they can use in one or the other but that doesn’t mean regular people will have the same attitude.)

  • Anna

And making headlines has consequences (both, good and bad). She doesn’t have the team that will control this narrative. For now it’s all good but they aren’t working on a framework for the feature – does she wants to be known as a gay celebrity (which is how she’s been treated right now as none of those articles is mentioning her work – do people even know she was there to promote PS?) or as an actress/director/artist. You can mock me as much as you like, but those are real issues (just go back and check some examples of other actresses).

I said I don’t think anything will happen. But…there’s is that possibility. In theory. And we didn’t know how the case of SWATH2 will end. I remember everyone (including you) was prying for her to be left out of it all but she wasn’t – she had to answer that question in Variety interview. How do we know same thing won’t happen with Sanders guy? It takes only few words from him to make headlines.

  • Anna
  • Guest

And her response was perfect. Those were not bad headlines. What do you expect him to say? That she was evil and seduced him and it was all for naught because whoops, she’s gay? No one is going to ask him about the affair. If he’s asked about SWATH and/or working with Kristen vs. working with ScarJo, I expect he’ll keep it professional.

  • Anna

Her answer *was* good. Did I say it wasn’t?
But my point is: she *was* asked about it (in a trade, mind you, not by a tabloid). And you know the angle they were taking was “what Kristen feels about being “fired” from her own franchise” (as they always go for the most polarizing thing) no matter which words were actually used.
I have no idea if someone will try to do similar thing and bait Sunders by masking it in talk about how is it to work with famous actresses but it *can* happen. And he doesn’t have to say anything bad for them to create headlines about it (and maybe even put a little spin to it if possible).
Long story short: we don’t know what will happen. So you acting like you do and mocking me for keeping all options open tells things about you and no one else.

  • MCR

Hasn’t she come out nine times already? What does it take to make it official?

  • Anna

Seeing her saying it live on national TV.
Plus, in the past the only thing she was ready to admit is that she wasn’t straight but she never put a label on herself. She did exactly that this time.

  • Anna

PS to be released on March 2nd in Portugal.

Haha! That is so funny. I guess the media thinks it is a topic that will be popular and help sell their publications or bring clicks on the internet.

  • BrendaStar

Thanks for the information about Sanders’ coming film. Sites like the Daily Mail will certainly write about the connection between the director and Kristen when they cover the film. However they still occasionally mention it anyway as do the trolls who comment there. Hopefully it will not be mentioned widely or intensely. It accomplishes nothing positive to write or talk about it imo.

Reason: keeping Eme in good mood. LOL
(Also, these articles, their titles, sound so familiar don’t they?)

  • Eme

Thank you, Anna for that wink! John Wick 2 – tomorrow!! And yeah, the similarities to other articles about our favorite badass is *uncanny* – not. HW always underestimates those that don’t fit into their cookie cutter vision.

  • Anna
  • Anna

JW2 is getting good reviews so I think you are going to like it (because you did like JW1, right?).
    Yeah, same old superficiality.

  • Eme

Yes, I liked JW1 very much. And I’m glad JW2 is getting good reviews. The trailer looks very violent but, oh well, it’s Keanu! Lol!

  • Anna

Violence isn’t my thing at all but oh well.

  • Eme

    Me neither but . . . it’s Keanu . . . . did I mention it was Keanu? Lol.

  • Eme

    Bbl.

  • Anna

I didn’t say a thing. One has the right to have their guilty pleasures ;P

  • Anna

    Stay safe.

  • Guest

I think she really looked great with the blonde when it was platinum like this with the roots. Not so much when it was all yellowish at the end.

  • Anna

I tend to agree. That combo had more character and life to it.

  • Guest

It suited her. Now she just needs to deep condition the hell out of it.

  • MCR

Hmm…I don’t think it’s quite time yet. Plenty of time on the underestimation meter IMO. But maybe I just don’t like the movies he chooses.

  • MCR

LOL good advice. And maybe, long term, ignore hairdressers’ advice and use nothing but shampoo, plain old drugstore conditioner, and a hairbrush.

  • Anna

    Yup.

  • Guest

Well I think the reason she avoids shampooing her hair frequently is so that it doesn’t dry out. I think she’s said so.

  • MCR

    People who watch SNL?

  • Anna

Um. I think she is where she is with her hair situation because she *doesn’t* listen to her hairdresser.

  • MCR

I’ve heard that idea, but I don’t think it’s true, unless you’re shampooing with Pine Sol.

  • Anna

She said her hair get greasy fast and that’s why she uses dry shampoo most of the time.
Plus, she said she doesn’t like when her hair looks (too) nice, it makes her nervous.

  • MCR

Wherever she’s getting her hair care ideas, it might be a good idea to diverge a bit.

  • Anna

No, LGBTQ+ community and few others who just like that skit.

  • Anna

That means she needs to stop listening to herself and go back to being “basic” (hairstyle wise). You know she said she kept her hair “neutral” because of her job. But now, because she’s obviously not going to act as much as she did (if at all), she’s playing with her hair. In her own words “I wanted to direct my short and f**k up my hair”. She did both.

  • MCR

I can see how it might have been a bit of a release to feel free to ruin her hair if she felt like it.

  • Anna

I get that. And it’s healthy to have an opportunity to vent a little and for awhile.
But, even then, there are lines that shouldn’t be crossed (and she did exactly that – she “f**ked up” her hair a bit too much).

  • Anna

(It’s interesting to observe all these PR tactics actors/actresses/studios have during awards season, once you know how to read them. They can spin almost everything in their advantage.)

  • Eme

Aww, MCR. It really is all about the eye candy for me. Keanu will never be up for an Oscar (lol) but I think he’s finding a niche that fits his acting abilities. And if others can do it (ahem, Tom Cruise, Van Diesel, Johnny Depp et. al.) why not Keanu? Jmo.

  • Eme

    Thanks, Anna.

  • Eme

    LOL!!

  • Anna
  • Alfred Birchall

BLLHW reviewed on Film 2017 BBC 1 last night Very positive but all three critics had problems with the format and effects of the construction of the technical side of the film. All the critics praised the acting performances over the tech aspects.None were particularily Ang Lee fans but Danny Leigh who is usually quite ascerbic noted that Kristens performance was the one that made him wish she had more screen time. Paraphrasing … When she is not in the frame you wonder what she is doing and miss her presence They like Joe Alwyn and commended him on his first HW movie.

  • Anna

Thanks for telling us that, Sue.

Knowing Lynn family’s story (from the book), I wish someone made a movie about them; not about the war (although it would be an important part of their story) but about Kristen’s character (that has a really great arc perfect for a film) and Billy. Kristen could shine as never before in that movie. But we got BLLHW instead. Oh well.

  • Alfred Birchall

Hi Anna Glad you still remember its me posting and not my OH ! Disqus has just been a complete d’ck and the most straightforward way to get on is thru my husband FB page. I thought I would get it sorted after we came back from OZ but no luck so far..I have Film 2017 on record on DVR so I am looking forward to their review of PS when is it due in UK ?THX

  • Anna

Of course I know it’s you. I think everyone here knows 😉

PS is scheduled to be released on March 17th and CW for March 3rd in UK.

  • MCR

    I can’t disagree with that.

(One thing, though. This happened in the past, too, and many times but it’s becoming something normal as of lately: whenever they write about Adir or Tara or Jillian or Beau or even Chanel and the article isn’t about the work they did with/for Kristen, she is completely left out like she’s not one of their biggest clients. Magazines will rather mention Gwineth than her, for example, which is . . . telling.)

  • Anna
  • Anna
  • BrendaStar

I have noticed that too. I think some publications are fearful of using Kristen because she had so many haters and still has some vocal ones. Also her reputation took a lot of hits because of Twilight, the haters and scandal. Also some people don’t read and hear as much about her as they did duringTwight. Still it is funny that anyone would plug Gwyneth. She is often laughed at by regular folks because her Goop is so out of touch with our reality. The cool types don’t seem impressed by her either.

  • Anna

IDK. What you said is true (except that they are doing this because she has haters: those too click on articles which mention her and that’s all publications care about in the end as clicks = $$$) but to me it’s more like they tend to “forget” to include her name because her team isn’t working with them, isn’t “friendly” enough with the press. And because in the bigger picture not many people (their readers) care about her now (she’s not in anything mainstream nor she is big on the social media).

  • BrendaStar

I do not know anything about PR so I never considered it, but that makes sense. I totally agree about her not appearing in popular, mainstream fare. She did help herself with her brilliant appearance on SNL. Maybe she will get more diverse offers now. Hopefully she changed some minds too among the public.

  • Anna

She might get more offers or she might stop getting them (meaning, SNL turned out to be something important and memorable for majority of people only because she confirmed her sexuality in the way she did and is not about her good acting performance and with every new week and new episode and new host with new great skits that impression will only become more obvious; even her best skit, the Totino one, is related to that). Also, at the end of the day, she needs to accept those offers. I’m not sure she’s in any hurry to go back to acting right now.

  • Eme

Hello my lovely minis!! iamKiera is so talented. Thank you! (And thanks, Anna, for bringing the group over to this board)!

  • Eme

Nice art (sigh, the cig.). But, it went with the rock and roll vibe so ok.

  • Eme

They look like cool buddies with each other.

  • Anna
  • Eme

Cute montage! Wow, I never knew that they were so cool and friendly with each other. They were best buds from what I can tell in these snippets of their time together doing the Twilight Saga. That was so nice to see. Um, and in the snippets with RP, *third wheel vibe*, js. And definitely my opinion only.

  • Anna

She fought for him to stay part of the Twilight saga (he was supposed to be replaced with a different actor in New Moon).
I think she always saw him as one of her brothers and he treated her as a sister (he does have a younger sister and they seem really close) so yeah, it’s been quite a nice relationship right from the start. And he always had her back, in all interviews and other stuff they did for promo during that time. He never made her nervous nor anything. They just get along well, naturally.

  • Eme

Ah, some Twilight history – thanks. I’m glad he had her back. They do act like siblings in the post above and I like that they still seem to be friends after all this time.

  • Eme

And I wonder who they were looking at to replace him.

  • Anna

(As for the third wheel vibe…there are moments when Taylor was in his element during interviews in which Pattinson felt like that 3rd wheel, LOL, as Kristen was always more relaxed and felt more free to react to Tay’s jokes and stories; with Pattinson she was trying to not give too much info.)

  • Anna

    Honestly, can’t remember.

  • Anna

He’s a good guy who gets her, he was never in any kind of competition with her (real or imaginary) like some other cast members and he seems to be a pretty easy going person so there’s was no reason for them not to stay in touch after getting along so well right from the start.

  • Eme

IDK. Looking back on it all (and I’ll be the first to admit that I didn’t know anything of this stuff – and still don’t know a lot – before 2012), I wonder if it would have just been better to put it out there. At least, it would be from them both rather than the public putting their own spin on it all.

  • Eme

Yeah, I really do get that good guy vibe from him. Glad he’s in her life in some way.

  • Eme

    Isn’t important. Just curious.

  • Anna

Oh, I agree. I think being slightly more open about it would have been somewhat better.
But hey, Twilight was a phenomenon, the first of its kind; their fame was also if not the first then one of first of that sort; this dominance of social media was just starting and they simply couldn’t even imagine how powerful all of it will become, no one did, so they didn’t know how to control it and help shape narrative by using it in a different way; tabloid industry went through major changes because of it (tabs became wild), and so on and on. They were simply caught completely unprepared for what happened to them and I’m not sure they could have done much to prevent it. Plus, that’s the time when Kristen’s anxieties were on all time high and her team wasn’t exactly the best to give her good advice and……………………………………..
    Anyway, water under the bridge.

  • Eme

Oh yes, definitely way under the bridge lol. I guess sometimes when an event happens (e.g., birthdays) with the major cast members, I always reminisce and do the *what if* thing. It’s just my nature to look at all the possibilities of a situation (whether past or present) and wonder. I think it’s also part of my training. And, I’ll admit it, sometimes it’s just fun and not taken seriously, at all. Because, you know, it’s all in the past and everyone (or at least the major players) have moved on far beyond their Twilight years. LOL!

  • Anna

I do the same. And I don’t need for it to be someone’s bday to start thinking about it. LOL
I think by going through different scenarios and what ifs we can learn a lot.

  • Eme

    Yup.

  • Anna
  • Eme

Yes, I also understand someone wanting to keep her/his privacy. Who knows what would have been the best way to deal with the insane situation generated by the Twilight phenomenon. It’s easy for me to speculate – I didn’t live it, thank goodness!

  • Eme

Disappointed that Moonlight didn’t win anything. And barf at Casey A.’s acceptance speech. He is . . . thirsty!

  • Eme

Hardly looks like her imo. Different posing was part of the reason I hardly recognized her. Lovely picture like Brenda said.

  • Anna

Of course he is. Some people are saying he’s grown that beard to appear older than he really is because Academy voters tend to award more mature actors in leading role. That guy knows all the tricks and his team is playing the PR game 24/7.

As for Moonlight…Ali’s win for BSA is now in danger. Also a win for Best Adapted Screenplay isn’t as certain as it was so that movie might end up with zero Oscars (story about a gay African American from a ghetto like community was never going to resonate with old white straight dudes in the Academy, not enough to win anyway).

  • Eme

Barf. Sorry, my only response to him and whatever PR pranks he has going on to win that Oscar. If he wins, it’ll be a tainted win as far as I’m concerned. And, sorry, no film, however positive, is going to keep away the disillusionment I feel right now about the state of humanity right now.

  • Anna

Well, Oscars were always about who plays the game best, not whose work is the best.
Yup. In an odd way, Academy and how this whole awards thing works fits perfectly in this messed up world – it is its mirror.

  • Eme

Yeah, I’m done with the Oscars.

    Twilight zone

Five years ago, if you had to predict the first American actress to win a César (ie, a French Oscar), you wouldn’t have chosen the lip-chewing wallflower from the “Twilight” franchise. Yet Kristen Stewart has reinvented herself as the darling of independent European cinema. In Personal Shopper, Stewart plays a celebrity’s assistant who fetches and carries designer dresses all across the city. But she is also a medium who is desperate to make contact with her dead twin brother. Greeted by boos and rave reviews when it premiered at Cannes, “Personal Shopper” floats weirdly between genres. But as a low-key study of someone who both dreads and yearns for the supernatural, it sends shivers down the spine.

Opens in America on Mar 10th and Britain on Mar 17th

  • Anna
  • MCR

“Kristen Stewart has reinvented herself as the darling of independent European cinema.” And of some independent American cinema. I think she may have found her niche (whether as actor or/and as director), right where it always was.

  • Anna

She can’t be darling of European cinema after working with only one European director on just two films.
And she doesn’t have her own niche in American cinema, either, because she’s not the first choice for any specific type of roles anymore.
    Just sayin’.

  • MCR

I’m divided. I love some of von Trier’s movies, and I’ve said before that I’d like to see him direct Kristen; but he’s rumoured to be a nightmare to work with, especially for actresses. And, like Woody Allen, he alternates great movies with so-so ones, and you never know which you’re signed on for. Also, as the article says, he’s controversial, and not in a nice way.
Add to that, he makes “weird little” art-house movies that will probably not be seen by most of the public, but without being (IMO) significantly better as a director than, say, Kelly Reichardt or Drake Doremus. Probably an interesting experience, but with the risks and benefits pretty well in balance, I think.
But it’s a coup for Riley K, and I hope it goes well for her.

  • Ella

I agree. She knows what sort of career she wants to have.

  • Anna

I know that and I tend to agree. But…Kristen said she wants to work with him and that’s why I posted that news.
And that isn’t the first role that would be great for Kristen which Riley got instead. Oh, well. Girl is putting far more effort in her career than Kristen is right now, obviously, so good for her.
As for him making indies that not many people gets to see, how is that different from most of films Kristen was in? A Trier’s movie will always be better than 10 Lizzies or JT LeRoys (even when they turn out to be good by some miracle).

  • Anna

I disagree. In her own words: she has no idea where she nor her career will be in 5 or 10 years. She knows what she doesn’t like and what scares her (because, IMO, she is really scared of trying some things and stepping outside of her comfort zone) but that’s different from knowing what is exactly that she wants.

  • MCR

Not different from most of her films, in terms of popular appeal etc, but without the potential, er, personality clashes that might come with LvT. But I’d still love to see it happen one day, especially if Kristen’s said she’d like to work with him.

  • Guest

FYI these comments are about the dress rehearsal from Kristen’s SNL and detail the skits that were cut from dress rehearsal to the live broadcast.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/LiveFromNewYork/comments/5sa94t/went_to_dress_last_night/

  • Anna

That person isn’t the first nor the only one to notice Kristen can’t exactly sell (over the top) goofiness when needed. Many people commented that she was far better in pre-taped skits than in those that were preformed live (her typical mannerisms were quite distracting for them). IMO, Kristen was good for her very first ever live performance show but she’s not an actress for that kind of stuff (nor theater) and it shows.

  • NONA

interesting reading about the stuff that gets thrown in, & then out of the live show. it’ll be funny in the unlikely event one of these appears online in their ‘cut for time’ series. still very proud of the job kristen did in the live show!

  • Ella

I disagree. And I was talking to MCR anyway.

  • Guest

I think occasionally they do put some skits from dress rehearsal online but they didn’t with Kristen. The cut skits don’t sound very funny anyway.

  • Toooten

I agree, she’s def. not a live performer and she will never be, but that’s okay – she have so many other qualities.

  • Toooten

I kindly disagree – she has mentioned herself in several interviews, that she wouldn’t mind doing big budget movies again, as long as she liked the script. Unfortunately I don’t think she gets a lot of offers for that kind of movies, if any at all.

  • Anna

Well, she’s not using those qualities in their wholeness.
And she definitely needs a new team that will find a way how to prevent general public from focusing only on all the things she can’t do. Because, at the moment (well, in the last decade or so), she’s defined by those things, sadly.

  • Anna

Yup. I don’t think she will be getting any offers for anything mainstream from now on. She closed that door herself.

    Personal Shopper (March 10)

    IFC Films

The newest effort from Olivier Assayas (the French master behind films like Irma Vep, Summer Hours and Clouds of Sils Maria) is a strange, haunted odyssey starring Kristen Stewart, who plays a young American woman in Paris going through a sort of personal crisis. Part horror movie, part muted workplace drama, Personal Shopper divided critics at last year’s Cannes Film Festival and is likely to baffle viewers with its elliptical ghost-story plot. But Assayas is one of cinema’s most fascinating artists, and in Stewart (who gave a dynamite performance in Sils Maria), he may have found a new muse.

  • Eme

Good morning, Anna. No, my area is above ground more, thank goodness. Thank you for your kind words. And, OT, Denzel’s acceptance speech at the NAACP Image Awards-now that is an acceptance speech, imo.

  • Anna

    Mornin’!

I’m glad you are OK. Hope everyone else there is as well.

Denzel…that man doesn’t know how to deliver a bad speech. He’s natural.

  • Eme

More importantly, I know it’s from the heart and not PR, js.

  • Anna

    True.
Also, all the years in the business and respect he gained is what allows him to be that open and says what he thinks (I’m mentioning this only because I feel there are more people in Hollywood, not many more but still, who do have similar ideas but are just establishing themselves so they have to think ten times before they say a thing).

  • Eme

    Very true. Good point. Still

  • Anna

They need to update her awards/noms lists with the Best Ensemble nom for CW from ICS (and I think there’s one or two more to be added).

  • Anna

(Even those awards are changing. Sadly.)

  • CJ

Do you know what are the others? My friend is an IMDb Pro subscriber and I can ask her to send them the request to update it.

  • Eme

Yeah, that’s why I said “so far”. The fact that some of them recognized Lily G., Kelly R. and CW kept them in my good graces for now.

  • Anna

I’m trying to remember them (not all awards from all sites/blogs/publications/crtics’ groups can be listed on IMDb).

  • Anna

    True that.
But, per their own admission, movie criticism is in big crisis so the number of critics/bloggers that are aligning with big studios (thus becoming less independent) is getting higher with time.

Lily is using this maybe once in a lifetime opportunity (great critical acclaim) to improve her career.

    https://twitter.com/Variety/status/831257701036331008

  • Anna

If only some of those people who were posting about her would actually pay to watch one of her films……………………… But they won’t because it’s all about who she is dating, what she is wearing, ect.

  • CJ

It’s not about her fans. We know they are not enough (at least the ones who actually pay to see her movies). Kristen moving up on IMDb and being #1 reblogged/posted about person has nothing to do with her fans and more to do with random people talking about her and, I’d add, talking positively about her. And that’s good! You’re always talking about her baggage here and how this prevents her to get better roles. Well, I think SNL had a big impact in (starting to) change her image for the general public.

  • Eme

Yes, I think we’re soulmates, we think so much alike it’s scary. And, to Adele’s credit, she acknowledges Lemonade should have won and that the Grammy powers that be got it wrong. And, the Academy will also get it wrong for me. Small hope that I could be wrong – but I’m not counting on it.

  • Anna

I am talking about random people.
My point was exactly that: she’s not gaining any new fans. And I disagree: not even 10 great SNL episodes can change public perception of her (you are focused on good reactions only so you aren’t seeing all those that are quite negative that go along the line “so she faked being straight, she faked her relationship with Pattinson for publicity and to improve her career, she cheated on him for thrills and is now in bed hoping spree going from one GF to another, ect” which is load of BS but is what too many people believe to be the truth about her).
On top of that, her old fans are leaving her behind, her fandom is almost a no more.

  • Anna

I’m also with Sasha on that whole thing (very interesting point re 13th vs. OJ Simpson docs).

  • Eme

    Seriously.

  • Eme

It was, wasn’t it? And the comments were . . . *illuminating*. Sigh.

  • Anna

She’s spot on regarding that, IMO.

I can’t wait for her piece about LLL once Oscars are over (she mentioned it in that article and she also talked about it a bit on twitter during BAFTA ceremony yesterday).

  • Eme

Really happy for Lily Gladstone. And I’m very happy that they are trying to cast all Native Americans for a First Nation story (duh!). But, um, is that the actual name of the comic books that are the basis of this series? Because, if not . . . I’d say a change is in order.

  • Eme

I do appreciate and like her writing and critiques very much. There hasn’t been a lot of disagreement with her on my part (lol!). And yes, I am also waiting impatiently for her piece on LLL. Judging from what little she said, this may be the one time I will disagree with her. We’ll see.

  • Anna

She knows many of Twilight Native American actors so maybe some of them will get roles in that series.
That title is quite, lets say, controversial (with really bad implications) but if Native American community agrees (which I’m not so sure they do) then I guess it can pass (because it’s their concern first).

  • Anna

I think she will talk about white privilege in that piece (and I think I will agree with, if not everything, than with the most of it but lets wait and see).

  • Eme

Well, as the series gets more press, I think we’ll see criticism. I cannot believe that the Native American community would be okay with that controversial title. And I’m sure Lily Gladstone has her own thoughts on the matter. But, she’s in a tough spot. It’s an incredible career opportunity for her so how much is she able to push back when she’s trying to move forward career-wise. It’s such a tough, gray area kind of thing.

  • Eme

    Agree.

  • Anna

Yup. (And she is a female which is additional “problem” for her. Kwim?)

  • Eme

    Absolutely.

  • Eme

I think it’s always nice to see Kristen’s numbers go up on anything. I always like to see positives for her. But to be honest, I would rather get good project news and would trade that any day for her being #1 reblogged/posted on tumblr.

  • Eme

    Nice.

  • Anna

(Don’t hold your breath for that. Just sayin’.)

  • CJ

Girls! Where are you reading it? Gossip Cop! Searching her name on Twitter and Facebook, I got a lot of praises and people saying “why I wasted time hating her? She’s awesome!” or “I used to hate her, but now I love her”and so on…

  • Eme

    Always on the Hope Train!

  • Anna

Saw all those but I also saw these negative ones (read replies on twitter/FB/tumblr/instagram). And no, haven’t been on GC for years now (nor did I look for haters’ opinions).

  • Anna

Well, as always, I may that train reach its destination.

  • MCR

    I’m shocked. 😉

  • Anna

“She was warned. She was given an explanation. Nevertheless, she persisted.” 😉

  • MCR

Maybe the TV series has improved on the original comic book. http://newspaperrock.bluecorncomics.com/2010/12/native-women-whores-in-scalped.html

  • Eme

Wow. I hope so, MCR. Because what I just read does not ease my mind about the title (which was my original concern) and now the series itself. Although the description of Lily G.’s character is quite different from the descriptions of Native American women in this essay. One can only hope that will be the case.

  • Guest

Right, she just shouldn’t have done SNL at all because even when she gets a ton of praise, it’s still bad. You set yourself up for an SNL disaster that never happened, so you’re trying to conjure up some fake bad news in the face of the great praise and outpouring of support and good will she received. Even when something good happens, it’s bad. You should join the rest of the so called fleeing fans from her fandom since it’s not like you’re a fan anyway.

  • Guest

Got news for you – You are a hater.

  • Anna

If that makes you sleep easier at night, suit yourself and think that. You are only making me — laugh.

  • Anna

I hope you’ve learned to deal with criticism in your real life *much* better than you are capable of doing it here because if you aren’t . . . oh boy, you in trouble, huge trouble.

After everything I’ve read about and from Lily in her interviews, I think she wouldn’t accept to be part of something that is deeply disrespectful towards Native Americans. But who knows.

  • Eme

That is why I will await my final thoughts until I actually see the series myself because I just cannot believe that Lily G. would agree to be part of this series if it truly depicts Native Americans in negative terms and perpetuates stereotypes.

  • Eme

    Wow.

  • Eme

    Aww, Happy Valentine’s Day, Anna.

  • Anna

    To you too, Eme!

  • Eme

I was reading the convo and then Guest’s hater comment happened and stopped me short and all I could think of was *wow*. It was more a response to that comment not yours. I’m still wondering about the comment. Sorry if I confused you. I’m confused myself.

  • Eme

And Happy Valentine’s Day to my lovely fan board friends and to Kristen Stewart, wherever you are!

  • Anna

It’s OK. Thanks for clarification 🙂
That comment confused you?! It was long time coming. No surprise there at all. I think everyone here is aware where everyone else stands.
I was honest when I said it just makes me laugh. Because, what else one can do, right?

  • Anna

Where ever she is, we already know her reaction. LOL

    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C4mohwqWIAAP3x8.jpg

  • Eme

I loved that day and her reaction. And the sign was so perfect!

  • Anna
  • Eme

Yeah, the shimmering beauty surrounded by tuxedos (and mighty fine looking ones, too, I might add)!

  • Anna

    Yup!

  • Eme

I guess so. Maybe I’m just naive or maybe I just don’t take being Kristen’s fan seriously enough to get so hung up on others’ comments or opinions. There’s enough hate in this world without calling someone names on a fan site!

  • Anna

    Exactly!
Thus my comment above about dealing with criticism in real life……………..

  • Eme

    Oh well. Moving on . . . . :)!

  • Anna

    Already did ;P

  • Eme

Hopefully this gives Ang Lee some comfort.

  • Anna
  • Guest

The people I know, work, and associate with are rational individuals and if they’re giving criticism, it’s constructive, as opposed to complaining and criticizing for no reason simply because you’ve decided that Kristen cannot win no matter what. I’d hate to see what your meltdown would’ve been like had she flopped on SNL if this is how you behave when she gets raves and tons of support, by inventing reasons as to why she’s supposedly doomed. Actually we know what that meltdown looks like, it would probably be similar to the breakdown you had over AU. If you want to know what “trouble” is, look in the mirror – it looks like someone who has an obsessive need to live through an actress whose every aspect she can’t stand, from her roles to her appearance to her dating life, etc., and who has fits when that actress doesn’t fit her fantasy of what she should be like, but her obsessiveness won’t allow her to let go and move on to an actress who *could* fulfill her fantasies – or better yet, real life. *That* is trouble.

  • Anna

    Sure, if you say so.
Honey, I have no reason to invent comments – every single thing I posted was said and shared by many people on multiple platforms. You can think whatever you like. I, on the other hand, will continue having both of my feet firmly on the ground with my eyes wide open for *all* aspects of this whole thing.
    With this, I’m done.
(BTW, you and Kfan aren’t fooling anyone. So get of your high horse.)

  • Stephanie

    Happy Valentine, Anna.

  • Stephanie

Happy Valentine to you too, Eme.

  • Anna
  • Stephanie

    Cuteness. Thanks. 😍:)

  • gillian kemp

It’s showing On-Demand on U-Verse. I hope people give the movie a chance. I still don’t understand all the complaining about this movie.

  • Anna

I think too hight expectations (the hype was so big that it was impossible for it to be matched with the real thing which only led to even bigger disappointment) were what harmed it the most. It’s not as bad movie as reviews are suggesting but it’s far far from what people were hoping to get from an Ang Lee film.

  • Anna

Hope you are having a good day 🙂

  • BrendaStar

Happy Valentine’s Day Anna and KSD posters and followers:-) I Ioved Kristen as Valentine.

  • Eme

Happy Valentine’s Day, Stephanie. Hope you’re doing well.

  • Eme

    Awww, minis!!

  • Guest

I don’t have rose colored glasses, I simply point out that you’re blinded by your black colored ones. They’re so dark that you can’t see out. And I don’t know what you’re implying but I never spoke to kfan when she was a poster or after so I don’t know what she has to do with me.

  • Stephanie

Happy Valentine day to you too, Brenda.

  • MCR

(Although, to be honest, she wasn’t a very happy Valentine)

  • NONA

can’t remember, did you get to see it yet?

flop or no – this is one i will go to the theater if within reasonable distance or download, and buy the dvd. same as for CSM. i like kristen’s persistence in doing interesting, layered, non-standard films.

  • Anna

I see both sides. And it is my opinion that the not so positive side can outweigh the good one in the long run if some things remain the same.
You have a choice: either keep wasting your time trying to convince me that I don’t have the right to have that opinion (honestly, you are spending so much time on it that this whole convo, just as almost all other convos we had in the past, feels like borderline obsessive behavior on your part) or move on. While you are deciding what to do, please think about this one more thing: why the hell do you care *this* much about what I think if I am *that* bad/in the wrong, why am I getting this much to you?
    Have a great Valentine’s Day!

  • Eme

    Happy Valentine’s Day, Brenda!

  • Anna

    Same to you, Brenda !!!

  • Anna

(Shhh, no Maria on this board so she should be fine here.)

  • Anna

Um, I don’t think this change of title was necessary but oh well.

PS will be released in Mexico on March 17th as Fantasmas del Pasado (“Ghosts of the Past”).

    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C4pJTH0UoAAHEFn.jpg

  • Anna
  • MCR

Yep, I saw it last year at a film festival. I thought Kristen was excellent, and the movie itself unusual and interesting, in a good way. Certainly worth seeing.
I agree; I like her film choices too.

  • MCR

Seriously, she’s not. Anna does the lion’s share here, providing a continual supply of Kristen Stewart news, almost all professional news, minus tabloid dirt.
She *does* have a very pessimistic view of her career, I agree; but far from hateful; and one commenter can’t ruin Kristen’s career, any more than one optimistic commenter can make it an unmitigated success.
It doesn’t matter; she’s doing no real harm, and much good, for KS fans.

  • Anna
  • Stephanie

Lol. You are probably right. Happy Valentine Day MCR!

  • gillian kemp

A tighten up script and better casting would have helped.Steve Martin and Billy’s love interest dragged the movie down. It still was better than the reviews it got.

  • Anna

    Agree.
Also, S. Martin didn’t exactly help with his performance.

  • Anna

Sorry, meant to say Chris T. instead of S. Martin (I was agreeing re his performance so I typed his name).

  • Eme

Agree with everything you’ve said about BLLHW, gillian kemp. It was far better than the reviews written and the story deserved more than it got, js.

  • Eme

Oh, Sasha, I thought you were going to wait until all the ballots were turned in. But, this essay isn’t going to change anyone’s mind. I’ll say this – if this is the essay you were going to write after the ballots were no longer in the hands of the Academy members, then I’m disappointed. Really.

  • Eme

Hmm. Agree. Doesn’t even make sense considering what we know of the film.

  • Eme

Ah, there’s my MCR. The voice of reason always. Thank you.

  • Anna

I don’t think that is *all* she has to say about LLL (based on her comments on twitter in last couple of months). That Variety defense article made her post her own sooner than she was originally planning to. IDK if she will write the rest after Oscars or she’s giving up on the whole idea (events in the real world are much more important).

  • Eme

Yeah, I won’t be surprised if she has more to say, but honestly, like you said, more important things in the real world. I’m over the Oscars anyways. It’ll all be the same old, same old when all of it is done. And, that’s fine with me – moving on. (But I’m still disappointed. I expected more from her).

  • Anna

Well, they go that ghost part right but the past isn’t exactly what PS is about. IMO, it has everything to do with Maureen’s fear of future.

  • Eme

Yes, as far as I know, I’d agree. Few more weeks and, hopefully, I will know what it’s all about. It had better show up at the theater that usually shows her films or someone (I’m looking at you, IFC) is going to hear, feel, and see my wrath!

  • Anna

No, I get you. It’s below average piece for her standard.
But she *does* have more to say (or go into more details). Maybe she’ll spill it on twitter now.

I just wish Oscars didn’t have the power to make (or ruin) someone’s career in the industry. That’s the only reason I still care. Otherwise, meh.

  • Anna

    Go get them !!!

  • Eme

I don’t know, Anna. There’s plenty of examples of actors/actresses who have won Oscars that did not go on to have stellar careers – off the top of my head – Marisa Tomey (?), Helen Hunt, the actress who won twice (Million Dollar Baby, Boys Don’t Cry – shame on me for not remembering her name right now – but kinda illustrates my point, lol) – to name a few. I don’t think winning an Oscar guarantees longevity or a *Meryl Streep* career. Imo.

  • Eme

LOL! I guess I was being overly dramatic there – or at least a bit hyperbolic in my statements!

  • Anna

    Hilary Swank.
All good examples, of course (but Hilary left Hollywood because her husband is working in Europe so I think it was her decision to put her career in the second place).
I agree that winning an Oscar doesn’t mean actors/actresses have it all secured for them after that but it *can* and *does* help tremendously to those in Kristen’s situation (when official confirmation that they are good is necessary for them to be accepted by the audiences as a real deal).

  • Anna

What?! You were/are too nice to them (they deserve far worse).

  • Eme

Yeah, well, I’m realistic that they won’t care or be bothered by a lowly fan like me no matter what I say to them. But, I will let them know if I won’t be able to see PS in the theater just so I can get it off my chest. We’ll see what they do with the distribution.

  • Eme

In a fair world that would have already happened with all the critical acclaim she won for her CoSM role. But it isn’t a fair world (in fact, it’s a pretty scary one right now) so there you have it. The state of affairs as it stands today – Valentine’s Day. But, I’m still on board the Hope Train.

  • Eme

And, I didn’t know that about Hilary Swank (thank you for her name as I couldn’t remember it for the life of me!).

  • Anna

    I know. <<>>

  • Anna

    You are welcome.

It’s always hard to know when something is their decision because they really want it that way or it was because they are forced to make it.

Just out of interest Three former co stars of Kristen are in a new drama series airing on BBC TV in UK starting Sunday 19th Feb. Sam Riley Kate Bosworth and Lars Eirdinger (Sp) are in SS GB Series similar to the premise of Man in the High Castle. What if the Nazis won the WW11 It actually looks quite promising Lars plays the Nazi Officer Sam is a crusading journalist and Kate is his love interest ( Possible German spy kinda thing ) Some good stuff being made for TV at the moment.. • Anna

There’s far more diversity on TV these days than in movies.

  • Anna

    New pics.

Kristen, Stella and that lady who went with them that one day to sauna.

  • Anna

And it looks like that’s exactly where they were this time again.

  • MCR

    Same to you. 💝

  • Anna

And they look — mad. Probably at that pap but who knows (because Stella’s and Kristen’s body language is very odd).

Pics from the first advanced screening of CW in Paris (Kelly was there).

    https://twitter.com/jeanfidu94/status/831629462001315841

  • MCR

I don’t suppose we can conclude anything from expression or body language when paparazzi are present.

  • Anna

    True that.

  • Toooten

I agree, but she looks really skinny now and I assume it’s because of her vegan diet, which consists almost entirely of vegan shakes, and that’s not healthy. Looking at her knees they’re still pretty bashed up, and it’s been quite awhile since she smashed them, so why don’t they heal properly? Lack of prober food and nutrients? I don’t know, but I DO know mother earth made us omnivores for a reason. Don’t screw with Mother earth!

  • Anna
  • Anna

She doesn’t look as skinny as she was during PS. This is her normal weight or just slightly below that (she was never a curvy woman and that black dress she wore for SNL monologue showed she’s just fine – no bones sticking out anywhere).
Her knees look much better, to me, than they did just couple of weeks ago (bruises are almost gone). I think she’s trying to slow down the healing process (by applying something on them?) and make sure that there are no scars after it’s all done.
As for vegan nutrition…yes, it’s quite tricky. But some people are/were vegan for years, decades even, and they look OK. So, she just needs to make sure she’s getting all the vitamins, minerals, ect in her body (you don’t need meat for that, not necessarily).
But, her and Stella did look odd in most of those pics, paps present or not. Kristen was with both Soko and St. Vincent for two and a half months. Stella’s 2.5 months expired few days ago. Time will tell.

  • Eme

    Lol, MCR! But cute, nonetheless.

  • Eme

In some of the pics Kristen’s face looked red. Facial probably. I like that she’s taking care of herself with treatments. And her knees look better. She looks about her *normal* weight, maybe slightly under which is fine. No smokes in these pics- happy whenever I see that.

  • Eme

    Lol!

  • Anna

Well, they were visiting a sauna so red face is kinda normal, right?
Agree, I’m glad she’s trying to take care of her body more (Stella’s influence maybe?).

Um, you can see a lighter in her pocket so she’s still smoking as usual. Sadly.

  • Eme

Sad to know that about the lighter. My CSI skills aren’t very good – get too excited at having pictures to see! Man, it’s like an athlete putting all that time and energy to build the body to compete and finish off a workout having a smoke. Wasted energy and cancels out the good being done. I’ll never understand it.

  • Anna

Yup. Going to sauna to get those toxins out of your body only to get them back in right after you are done. Senseless to me but…………………………

  • Eme

    Right. Not our life . . . .

  • Anna

    Yeah, I know, I know……………………………………………
But smoking is the *only* thing I feel we can and have certain right to criticize when it comes to her life.

  • Eme

Yes. I worry about her health. She does have a history of cancer in her family so I really do want her to quit smoking. That is the one thing I am adamant that she do. Everything else pales in comparison.

  • Anna

    Exactly!

  • Anna
  • Anna

“I feel extremely lucky to be able to work with her at this point in her career,” confirms Assayas when we meet in London to discuss Personal Shopper, which, like the film industry set Clouds of Sils Maria, offers a sly meditation on the intersection of stardom with reality (albeit this time set against the backdrop of the fashion industry). “The roles have to do with who Kristen is. She’s this big movie star, but she’s also a very open, simple person: it’s a side of her I really wanted to see and help her get across, which I suppose is why I created these two characters for her.”

  • Anna
  • NONA

i’ve also noticed she’s not smoking in pics recently. but she’s probably still at it (less i hope). then again, there is also the possibility the lighter is not for tobacco, if you get my drift??

  • Anna

She smoked in those pics with Stella outside a restaurant just 2 weeks or so ago.
And even if the lighter is for that other thing, it’s still smoking.

  • Anna
  • Anna

  • MCR

Too much talent to contain in a single photograph. (Why isn’t Kelly Reichardt the most wealthy and famous director in America again?)

  • MCR

Wow, it’s actually being taken seriously!

  • Anna

I worry studios will settle and not much will change after that (not that I think suing them will bring bigger improvements but still something is better than nothing at all).

  • Anna

Why aren’t completely rational and well educated people vast majority in America again?

  • Eme

Well, all options are not healthy choices so I guess I would hope whichever it is (are) that she is doing less of it (them). Hope so, at least. Sigh.

  • Eme

They’ll settle and then there’ll be the required token gestures where nothing much will change. The status quo is very hard to change.

  • Eme

Check out the *diversity* Vogue issue and tell me again that we’ve made progress in that area.

  • Anna

Are you talking about the “models of all sizes” cover? If so, those models aren’t *all* blondes with blue eyes so I guess we did?
(Sarcasm, of course, but, sadly, that cover *is* a progress being made – by Vogue’s standards. Which aren’t very high to begin with.)
Or maybe you are talking about that Japan inspired shoot? SMH so hard at that one.

  • Anna

    Yup, that’s what I’m thinking.
They’ll rather pay than surrender their (male) power.

  • Anna
  • Eme

No, not the cover. Karla Kloss’ shoot where all things Japanese were used – yeah, even a shot of a sumo wrestler next to KK – (except her because why use a Japanese model for a Japan inspired shoot when you can have a non-Japanese model pretending to be Japanese). I could barely type this post because it boggles the mind – and in a *diversity* issue no less! I. have. no. words. left.

  • Anna

Like I said, SMH too damn hard at that one.
(Someone said we should watch Anna W. discussing Chinese culture in Met Gala documentary, made that one year when event was dedicated to that Chinese designer, and everything will be clear. Which means, that woman has no clue about anything.)

  • Anna

Same thing as with CoSM (remember that too weird even for Kristen hairstyle and her first carvesation with Suzie?): small screening that should pass for a premiere.

    https://twitter.com/queennn94/status/831952001818836992

  • Eme

No, I don’t need to listen to her. She has told me everything I need to know about her world view in the latest issue of her mag. That she and her staff did not even hesitate or pause to question the advisability, let alone *possible* cultural insensitivity, of that shoot – I don’t need to hear from her any further. Not that I ever bought Vogue – but it won’t happen ever (even if Kristen is on the cover – sorry). And the fact that we’ve heard nothing from her or her staff (poor Karla had to issue an apology all by her lonesome) speaks volumes, people!

  • Eme

I’m on the glass half full side on this one, Anna. Because at least I’ll get to see Kristen and Olivier again. I’m selfish that way.

  • Anna

Well, that’s because everyone will attack the face in front of the camera (in this case that’s the model, in movies those are actors) while leaving those who made decision to do it pretty much unscratched (of course, Karlie could have said no, but, on the other hand, who can say no to Vogue and Anna W. and still have hopes to be invited again – look at what happened to Kristen).
Also, don’t expect people to go against Vogue – it’s too big and too many people in fashion and entertainment industry needs it and Anna W.’s seal of approval. That’s reality.

  • Anna

Oh, I’m not objecting or anything.
Just commenting on IFC’s laziness, that’s all.
I’m glad we’ll get to see her. And any promo is better than no promo.

  • Eme

Oh, I know the odds that this will affect Anna W. or Vogue is nil. Like I said, status quo is hard to change. But, my decision not to buy Vogue and to talk about this issue is my way of *persisting*.

  • Eme

    Exactly. And . . . IFC? Pffft!!

  • Anna

I disagree with you only in one thing: I think people *need* to talk about that shoot and condemn it. Silence isn’t the right answer, IMO.
(I’m not saying we here should talk about it if you don’t want to, it was more in general).

  • Eme

Oh, sorry. I just reread my post. My decision is to not buy Vogue but that I would be talking about this issue because I’m *persisting*. Good grief! Terrible sentence structure. Sorry. And English is my native language lol!!

  • Anna

    Ah, gotcha!
    Then we agree about everything.
And no worries, I’m the very last person to comment on yours or anyone else’s “sentence structure”, trust me. LOL

  • Eme

Well, I do pride myself in being a fairly articulate, good writer so I dislike it very much when I fail in that regard. Thank goodness none of my English teachers (wonder if any of them are still alive?) will see that post. Lol!

  • Anna

Well, there’s this one tiny thing: posting from your phone will kill even the very best good writing skills (not that I have them) because…ugh! LOL

  • Eme

Yeah, I go slow when I’m posting from my phone – and proof read because . . . autocorrect!!

https://twitter.com/TalkFilmSoc/status/832630371829239810 Have y’all seen this movie yet? It’s on iTunes now.

  • Eme

I saw it during its very brief theater run. Glad it’s available for others to see on iTunes. It deserved better treatment than it got in its US distribution, imo.

  • CJ

I watched it this week on iTunes. To be honest, I was a little disappointed. The movie was not what I expected and I understood part of the criticism it got. The focus was in the stadium scenes and the war and family scenes (the best part for me) were just flashes. I could never engage with the drama or the characters. And it was not the actor’s fault. Joe was great! Garrett was very good and Kristen was very good (although her role was smaller than I thought it would be). Steve Martin was ok and so was Chris Tucker.

Now I understand why Ang used the technology to try to make the audience “feel” like they were there, maybe that would be the only way to make people “feel” the story because I saw it on my TV and I couldn’t feel it… LOL

It’s funny because the movie is based on the book and some of my friends that read the book and saw the movie told me the movie pretty much brings the book to the screen, so I don’t understand how the book was a best seller and the movie was meh… And if someone can bring a book to the screen, this would be Ang Lee, but… I still hope Kristen will work with him again in the future.

  • Anna

The movie has all the major events described in the book so in that sense it is faithful to its source material but the script is not good as in, dialogues don’t have the same power at all (blame the screenplay writer) nor are stream of consciousness like descriptions (which are huge part of the book) turned into equally good scenes that can, because of their nature, only use their setting and atmosphere (shaped by cinematography and sound) as a way to convey emotions and engage audiences (acting and actual words coming second) which was Ang’s job. I guess he relied a bit too much on yet untested technology to achieve that and he failed.
Long story short: events from the book are there but the feeling of it isn’t.

  • Anna

[Possible new “drama” in Kriste’s private life might be coming. Those freaking 2.5 months are up. Time will tell.]

  • CJ

Have you read the book and seen the movie?

  • Anna

I’m seeing it in 2 weeks (if they don’t postpone it again).
But I’ve read the book and I went through the movie (after its original release date was canceled) with a person who already saw it and knows the book. We have almost the same opinion re the book so, based on her description of the key scenes and moments in the film and all those scenes that were posted during promos, I don’t *feel* the story in the same way I did while reading the book. That “punch in the gut” is missing.
You can accept that opinion or not.

  • Eme

I didn’t read the book so I can’t compare the two. I will say that the story plugged along and some of the elements didn’t jell for me. I thought Kristen, Joe and Garrett were good considering they had to act entirely different with the new technology Ang used.

  • CJ

I’m not saying I’m not accepting your opinion. But if you didn’t do both (read the book and see the movie), I think you should see it first to have a better comparison. My friend actually read the book (I didn’t, so I can’t say for myself) and saw the movie and said the elements were all there and the dialogues were very close. So, I asked her why the book was so successful and the movie wasn’t. She said that the descriptions in the book and the characters thoughts were not well translated in the movie, so you couldn’t engage as much. Maybe that’s why the “punch in the gut” (as you said) is missing. And, in my opinion, and I hate to say this because I love Ang Lee, this is a director’s fault. And maybe it was because he spent too much time focusing in the new technology and not in making a good movie.

  • Anna

And that’s exactly what I said. Only, based on what I know (which isn’t the same as seeing the movie with your own eyes, I agree), some dialogues were quite cringe worthy (even if they are the same as in the book – reading something in your own voice and seeing/hearing it when other people are interpreting it can be very different and it usually doesn’t work as well without some changes). So, it’s scriptwriter’s fault combined with Ang’s lack of effort to actually tell the story first and only then take care of that new technology thing.

  • Eme

And I too hope Kristen gets a chance to work with Ang again. Sooner rather than later, please.

  • Anna

(He’s not known for that good female characters in his films, though. Just sayin’.)

  • CJ

Why? Because she re-followed her ex (St Vincent)? Not a big deal. Chill out!

  • Anna

That (btw, why first block an ex and a month later re-follow her while your current GF isn’t in the city) and some other details.
Here’s the thing: you or anyone else saying that to me this time last year would make me respond with “OK, I agree.” but after everything that happened last year with Soko/Alicia/St. Vincent/Stella I’m not to take any of these things lightly (because we all were “nah, there’s nothing there” only to be proven very wrong in few days/weeks). You gotta learn from the past experiences.

  • Eme

Really? I thought Sense & Sensibility was brilliant directing on his part. And I loved the women characters in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (at least what I remember of it).

  • CJ

I don’t know what happened that made Kristen unfollow Annie. We can’t be sure Kristen blocked her. I think Kristen unfollowed her (as I said I don’t know why) and then, 2 days later, Annie unfollowed her back. Maybe they met recently and talked and Kristen decided to follow her back. I think, based on pics, and the fact that Kristen and Stella can’t stay a few days away from each other that are are pretty fine and happy. Let’s wait and see. There’s no need for panic at this moment.

  • Anna

Oh, I like S&S. A lot! But that’s kinda an exception in his filmography. So, if he is willing to make another one and include Kristen, I’m all for that.
(CTHD was more about visual storytelling than the characters for me but maybe I wasn’t able to fully connect with them because of that specific style in which story was presented.)

  • Eme

The only drama I want to see are work related announcements. Please.

  • Anna

I’m not panicking. All of this feels too familiar, tbh, so I’m kinda used to it.
But I don’t think everything is fine and dandy either.

  • Anna

I know all about you and that hope train of yours (which is an attitude that, as I said before, I do admire) but, Eme, things really don’t look good when it comes to that.

  • Eme

Yeah, I was definitely blown away by the visuals and storytelling style of CTHD. And yes to Kristen in an Ang Lee period piece a la S&S.

  • CJ

You never think everything is fine…what’s new? But the way you wrote your post (and considering most people here have no idea what you were talking about) it looks like you wanted to make some drama where it hasn’t any.

  • Eme

I’m on that Hope Train to the bitter end, Anna. Maybe I’m a fool to hope so hard that my girl can rise above it all again but that’s who I am.

  • Anna

And I’m mostly right. Sadly. So yeah, there’s nothing new here.
That kind of posts are my thing and people are used to it. Those who want to know more will ask while others can skip them all together. So you see, no drama at all. Except for you. Because you disagree.

  • CJ

You’re not mostly right. If I remember correctly, a few weeks ago you thought Kristen was into Chloe, right? Anyway, I don’t think it’s fair to say drama is coming when there’s nothing happening but Kristen re-following her ex. In my opinion, it shows that she is totally over her and it’s good. Bad blood is never good.

  • Eme

But I will add that I am getting impatient for some work news – anything would be a nice tidbit for me as a fan. JS.

  • Anna
  • Anna

Nope. I said I wouldn’t be surprised if there was something going on (again, based on everything we saw last year) so we went through that “what if” scenario saying our pros (there are none) and cons and that tabs won’t wait to call them “gal palls” (with “she’s such a player” comments following). Which they did. Right away. But then Stella saved the day.

Hmm. Sorry but I’m not as trusting as you are. St.Vincent’s IG account is a public one, Kristen didn’t have to follow her to see her posts.

  • Anna

I *never* said you are a fool (hell, I wish I had more of that hope in me).

  • Anna

You don’t have to tell me that.

  • Eme

Oh I know you never said that or even think that. That was just me talking in my head, lol!

  • Eme

    Yup!

  • Anna
  • Eme

Always! And that was one of my favorites from her SNL show.

  • Anna

Yeah, playful Kristen is always nice to see (maybe because it’s such a rare thing).

  • Eme

She really did play her character in a playful way. She charmed me lol!

  • Anna

A proof she can do/be like that when she puts her mind to it.

  • Eme

    Absolutely!

  • CJ

I don’t think Kristen is anxious to see SVT pics. As I said I see the re-follow as a sign they fixed whatever happened before that made Kristen to unfollow her and she re-followed to show there’s no bad blood anymore.

  • Anna

One thing is clearing everything up between them and a completely different thing wanting to stay in touch (on a daily level because I’m guessing she checks her IG every day) with an ex only couple of months after the breakup (while you are in a brand new relationship that needs time to stabilize itself). That’s how I see it, anyway.

  • Eme

Long read but very good, important one illustrating how woman directors have to work harder to get recognized and can never fail because that failure becomes every woman director’s failure.

  • Anna

Yup! That’s why I think almost every female director should also have a day job. Sadly.

“A guy gets chances,” she says. But a female director? “It’s like, you fuck up [once] and that’s it, goodbye.”

  • Eme

Yup. Same thing goes with acting, js.

  • Anna

    Very true.
But with acting is a bit easier because an actress is only responsible for her performance and promo time while directors need to manage and hold the whole project together. Plus, if an actress is beautiful and charming enough and knows how to play that card well, she can have a B-list actress career just like that (for some time anyway). No such thing in directing world.

  • Eme

I was just thinking about how many times an Adam Sandler movie bombs and yet he still continues to make movies. I don’t know of any actress that you can say that same thing.

  • Anna

    Agree!
Just yesterday there was a convo among few top critics/bloggers about him and how they can’t wait for a serious director to give him a good role so he could have a comeback (because, in their opinion, some of his previous work is a proof that the guy is a genius).
They will never say anything like that, not even close, about any of the actresses that are 10 times better than him but can’t find work because they are older than 40 or something. SMH.

  • Eme

    Absolutely agree!

  • Anna

(I can’t believe what I just read !!! It’s connected with the equal rights for women but not with the movie industry.)

  • Anna
  • Anna

    Sounds familiar? Just sayin’.

“All the while, the clock was ticking on a follow-up to her latest success. At the time, her post-Clueless choosiness might have seemed like a declaration of independence, but in hindsight it looks more like a squandering of momentum.”

  • NONA

i saw it in the theater, i enjoyed the book more because it wryly
    conveyed the sarcasm & sur
