I have uploaded new promotional still of Kristen Stewart in “Untitled Lizzie Borden Project” to the gallery.

Hi Anna. Hope you had a good holiday season.

  • Anna

    Hey!

Sorry, just now saw your post.

I did! Nothing special but it was really nice to be with family again.

Happy New Year to you too!

  • Eme

So hello. Is this the board that we are moving to? Happy New Year everyone.

  • Anna
  • Bliss

~♥~Happy New Year! Peace, health, joy and success to everyone.~♥~

  • BrendaStar

Thanks, Anna, for all the beautiful New Year greetings and gifs. I especially loved those New Year stars and the gif from Cafe Society of a New Year’s Eve party.

  • BrendaStar

Hi, Bliss. Happy New Year to you! Wishing you peace and happiness in 2017. So glad you found our new home here.

  • Anna
  • Anna

    You are welcome 🙂

  • Anna

Hmm. It’s cutting it too close to Sundance (Come Swim premieres on Jan 19th but, because she’ll be there as a director and writer this year, she might stay longer than her usual 2 days; or maybe not).

  • Anna

    LOL
This is cute. Girl asked for Kristen’s “grudge bob”. I think clothes fit, too.

  • Anna

BLLHW’s release in Brazil moved from Jan 19th to April 27th. Sigh.

  • Eme

I second that! Happy New Year, Brenda!

  • Eme

Love it! She’s even wearing the grunge bob *windswept*! Cuteness overload – first of the year for me!

  • Eme

Selfish fan that I am – she can do it! Girl doesn’t sleep anyways so what’s a little 12 or 24 *all nighter* travel!

  • Eme

And to you, also. Happy New Year, Bliss.

  • Eme

    Happy New Year, Brenda!

Difficult to find you but finally I got you 😉

    Happy new year!

  • Anna

It’s been a while since the last time she attended PFW (July 2015, I think), so it would be nice if she could go now.

  • Anna

She has the *attitude*. Cool kid.

  • Anna
  • nuca

Waiting impatiently for the appearence and reactions:)

  • BrendaStar

Thank you, Eme! Same to you.

  • Eme

Hands in pocket with the *don’t give a **** look *. Cool kid indeed.

  • BrendaStar

Amazing! That is cool how 2017 rotates.

  • Eme

Yes, yes we know! Can we move on now?!!

  • BrendaStar

I like the way he describes the films on his list. He makes it intriguing and makes me want to see them.

  • Anna
  • Stephanie

So happy our group is back. Looking forward to all KS news, projects. …

  • Anna

Good to see you here, Steph!

  • Anna

[It’s weird being on board that doesn’t have thousands of comments. But don’t mind me. LOL]

  • Stephanie

I’m glad to find you here Anna. Thank you.

  • Stephanie

Lol. We will get there eventually.

  • Anna
  • Eme

Good read if only to illustrate that there are so many talented and Oscar unrecognized actresses in HW.

  • Eme

Oh, I have to see this – I haven’t seen many of her films prior to Twilight. Want to see Cake Eaters, Into the Wild, etc.

  • Stephanie

    Hello Eme.

  • Eme

Hello my Stephanie. Lovely to be talking to you again. So happy you are with us here.

  • Stephanie

You and Anna’s posts to me are the reasons I am here. So much love from you guys.

  • Eme

Awww. Thank you. I’m waiting to make some humorous replies to Anna but there hasn’t been an opportunity just yet in the new year. But, not to worry, it’s coming – the laughs, I mean. Lol!

  • Stephanie

Lol. Yes, laugh is the best medicine.

  • Eme

OT: Just read Farah’s post on the other board about the choice to come here instead of the Forum. I hope we didn’t hurt her feelings because I absolutely valued her site in the little time I was active there. I am sorry if we did hurt her feelings.

  • Eme

    Absolutely!

  • Anna

Yeah. You should check their list of 25 Actresses for an Oscar WIN (quite a few “Whaaaat?!” moments because they should have gotten it long time ago).

  • Eme

Oh, okay. I’ll do that when I get the time. RL is going to bar me from posting much today – but I’ll make up for it soon enough!

  • Anna

Who said we won’t go there later? You never know.
It’s because of Disqus that we are here and I hope she knows it.

  • Anna

    Stay safe!

  • Eme

Oh, I’ll always go there to look at the updates as I do other sites. It’s just my understanding that we can’t post comments there which is why I’m here. And yes, I hope she does know that. Bbl.

  • Eme

    Thank you, Anna.

  • Anna

You mean on the site? She will close that comment section so yeah, no one will be able to post there.
As for checking news, IOKTBY always was my go to fan site and I don’t think that will change.

  • Anna

Maybe Olivier should say hi to us wearing *the* sweater.

  • Bliss

I’m so sorry about your mom, Stephanie. May you find comfort in all the memories of times you have shared and may you always feel her warm, loving spirit with you. With heartfelt sympathy.

  • Anna

    Kinda miss seeing these two…………………………..

    Happy holidays, Sue!

  • Eme

THE OA!!! Lol. But, he looks cute in the pic! Hey, Anna, no sweater!

  • Anna

He looks younger in that pic, too ;P

  • Eme

    Yup!

  • Anna

This lady also worked on CXR.

  • Eme

You are so bad! Okay, so maybe it was an older pic and he is younger in the pic! He’s still THE OA to me! Sigh, need to see some more news, people!

  • Eme

Yes, thank you Sue. I’m going to search for it because the consensus is that it’s one of her best early performances. And Happy 2017 to you!

  • Eme

Hmmm. How does a teaser work on a short that is only 17 or so minutes long? Weird.

  • Anna

    You’re tellin’ me.
I’m like: “Why isn’t something, anything nice and worthy of my attention happening?!” but then I say to myself: “Gurl, don’t you dare complain because it might/will get worse.”. LOL

  • Anna

    Exactly.

  • Eme

Well, yeah, there is that lol!

  • Eme

    Yeah, agree.

  • Anna

Well, he is a daddy now so he’s forgiven. LOL

    Jesse Eisenberg and Kristen Stewart

Earlier films: ‘Adventureland’ (2009), ‘American Ultra’ (2015); 2016 film: ‘Cafe Society’

Kristen Stewart and Jesse Eisenberg brought their third big-screen relationship to theaters this summer, starring opposite one another in Woody Allen’s Cafe Society. After appearing together in Adventureland, the two stars joined forces again in 2015 for American Ultra, with Stewart playing the girlfriend to Eisenberg’s stoner convenience store worker, who’s also a CIA sleeper agent. This summer, Stewart slipped into a familiar role as Eisenberg’s character’s love interest in Woody Allen’s 1930s-Hollywood film, Cafe Society. This time Stewart, as an agent’s assistant, finds herself in a love triangle with Eisenberg’s Bobby and his uncle Phil (Steve Carell), who’s also her boss.

    “PERSONAL SHOPPER”

From our review: Stewart’s commitment to the role is impressive, and she exudes a curious sensuality previously unseen in her career. Alone one night at her employer’s home, her character engages in a fetishistic act that suggests she’s been possessed by a deviant spirit, if not something more overtly nefarious. Even when special effects sneak into the drama, they sort of dangle there, like question marks. “Personal Shopper” isn’t a ghost story so much as it examines the psychological underpinnings that make ghost stories creep us out.

IFC Films will release the film on March 10.

MOST UNDERRATED FILM OF THE YEAR

RUNNERS-UP: […] You can also take a swing to say that not enough people talked about how profoundly moving Kelly Reichardt’s “Certain Women” is, and it’s once again disheartening that a film about four strong, intriguing female figures went unnoticed. I’ll make the swing.

  • Anna

    WORST ON-SCREEN COUPLE

Joe Alwyn & Makenzie Leigh in “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk” (Sony Pictures)

    as “Billy” and “Faison”

A weird look from a football field, followed by an even stranger makeout session behind a curtain. There are many variables that equal Ang Lee’s war film’s ultimate failure. On prominent display is the misguided and falsely feeling love story, as constructed by screenwriter Jean-Christophe Castelli. Shoehorning a reason for “Billy” to stay behind and not return to war not only disrespects the driving force of our living, fighting soldiers, but plays like a faux sense of purpose, parading around 120 frames per second.

  • Eme

Thank you, Clayton Davis. Finally, a critic that dares to say La La Land is just *fine* – not great or the best of this year . . . just *fine*. And I’m still cheering Moonlight or another film on for BP this year.

  • Eme

Yeah, wasn’t feeling the chemistry either when I saw the film and agree that it did leave a false note. Sigh. But we all knew the script was one of the factors dragging BLLHW down.

  • Eme

    Absolutely agree with his opinion.

    Personal Shopper

    March 10

Synopsis: A young American in Paris works as a personal shopper for a celebrity. She seems to have the ability to communicate with spirits, like her recently deceased twin brother. Soon, she starts to receive ambiguous messages from an unknown source.

I was lucky enough to see Personal Shopper back in 2016 at TIFF, but I’m including it on this Most Anticipated list to help keep the film on your radar. In Olivier Assayas’ weirdo ghost story/voyeurism thriller, Kristen Stewart tries on sexy shoes, bites her thumbnails a lot, text messages with a possible ghost and gets wrapped-up in a murder mystery. It’s incredible — see it.

  • Anna
  • Anna

“How Olivier describe the movie to you for the first time?”
“He didn’t say anything. I just read the script. I didn’t realized it was an horror movie when I first read it. I knew there was supernatural aspects but seeing the ferocious way Maureen looks at the ghost, I never thought she was afraid. Just that she was curious. On the set, in the beginning, I was thinking that […] she was never gonna be scared, but it wasn’t realistic. Even as curious as she is. Confronting the unknown is terrifying, of course. So when I read the script, I found out it was an existential movie. Sad. Which was speaking about where grief will take you […]. Especially in illuminated places. It teaches you to appreciate life. That’s why I didn’t understand that it was an horror movie at first. However, I was really scared when I saw it. It’s an immersive experience, really agonizing. I wasn’t expecting it.”

  • Anna

Have you seen La La Land? I thought it was great and deserving of its “best of the year” accolades.

  • Bliss

    Gorgeous!

  • BrendaStar

This will seem wacky probably, but this picture of Kristen reminds me of Emma Watson’s picture in Beauty and the Beast promo. Their facial features are so similar.

  • BrendaStar

It is really interesting how Olivier and Kristen work together.

  • BrendaStar

I’m really looking forward to seeing PS. I’m glad it made a Most Anticipated List for 2017.

  • BrendaStar

Clayton Davis is always a good read imo. I haven’t seen any of the films under consideration for BP, but I have read lots of love for Moonlight.

  • Eme

Oh this is all about my bias against musicals and front runners and always pulling for the underdog. I’m sure LLL deserves the praise it’s getting – I’m just not interested. That’s all. And, no, I haven’t seen it. I have seen Moonlight, Fences and plan to see Jackie, Silence, Hidden Figures. Perhaps Lion and hopefully catch Arrival somewhere. And, I loved Moonlight.

  • Eme

I can’t wait to see PS!!!!

  • Eme

They are both very beautiful young women.

  • nuca

    Too beautiful for words:)

  • Guest

Ok, good to see you can acknowledge your bias over a movie being a front runner when you haven’t even seen such a lovely, original, creative film that features great acting, catchy music, two charismatic stars, makes you laugh and cry, and hits painful notes of nostalgi. I hope you get to see the other movies soon.

  • Eme

I am, if anything, honest. And, it’s only my opinion. It doesn’t affect any one else’s as far as I know. Shrug.

  • Anna

Let others like or dislike what ever the hell they want.

  • Eme

HI Anna! Still trying to get used to this new board. Glad to see some of the regulars here. Glad you’re here!

  • Guest

Yes I was just confused why/how you could have such disdain for a movie you haven’t seen just because many people love it.

  • skeptical

Wtf is your problem? I saw Lala land and enjoyed it, thought Emma was excellent (and she’s not usually my cup of tea), but it’s a very slight storyline in a year with other films tackling bigger things, like the very excellent Moonlight.
Lots of people don’t like musicals, and the person I saw LLL with, who does like musicals, thought it was just OK.

  • Anna
  • Anna
  • Anna

A bit more colorful with these pink tones but aside from that, it’s almost the same.

    <3

  • Guest
  • Guest

I’m simply questioning someone who hasn’t even seen the movie having disdain for it because it’s a frontrunner. And I don’t consider it a “slight” storyline, just because it focuses on aspiring actors/musicians? Kristen herself looked down on the notion that to win an Oscar you need to go through some kind of pain and suffering and overcome something, like the non “slight” storylines you seem to suggest.

  • Guest

Kristen and Cara in the same campaign will no doubt spawn some salacious gossip.

  • Anna

Meh. Not Stella’s first campaign nor Kristen’s first time to work with her current GF.
Plus, who knows what will happen with their relationship when we get to see results of that work.

  • Anna

You don’t, others do. Deal with it.

  • Anna

    Disappointed.
I hoped that campaign will be only hers, not something she would share with other (less important) Chanel faces. Keira gets one campaign per year but, at least, it’s only hers.

  • Guest

    Not Stella. It’s Cara.

  • Anna

Sorry. Act like I didn’t say anything.
You said Cara and my head went to Stella. LOL

(But still, no one really cares about Kristen that much to make that drama. Both are old Chanel’s faces and they were at that party together when Kristen was dating St. Vincent to they are civil.)

  • Anna

And this is a bit odd.
Kristen was announced as the face of that bag months ago. Why this change of heart, Chanel?
    Sigh.

  • Anna
  • Guest

Because Karl and the brand hate Kristen now, obviously.

  • Guest

I’m dealing just fine, thank you. You seem to have a problem with a discussion.

  • Anna

    Your words, not mine.

  • Anna

    Riiiiiiight.

  • Eme

Excuse me, but disdain is your word not mine. I don’t care enough about this film to have that strong reaction. I was commenting more on Clayton Davis’ opinion more than the film. And you loved the film. Good. I don’t like musicals. Again, my opinion, my preferences.

  • Anna
  • BrendaStar

Karl had Kristen, Vaness Parradis and one or two other Chanel faces with the last bag/purse campaign that I remember. Pharrell seems like a good choice to increase the range of people targeted for this product. Cara is a surprise though. I have no knowledge about her relationship with SV. It is ust that DM and the tabloid sites like to stir up trouble. Her choice for this campaign may do that.

  • BrendaStar

The DM is still mentioning the SWaTH director in articles about Kristen and Stella. No doubt they will mention that both Cara & Kristen dated SV.

  • Eme

I was so proud of her that day!! Actually, was a proud fan as she racked up all those critics’ society wins.

  • BrendaStar

Yes they are! I hope they make a film together some day.

  • Eme

    Yes!!!

  • Eme

In the last bag/purse campaign, Vanessa, Kristen, and Alice (?) had their own bags to promote. I agree with you that this is a good business decision to broaden the public appeal for the product. Still, like Anna, I’m a little disappointed the campaign isn’t just Kristen’s alone. Oh well. We’ll still get to see pretty pictures of her and she’s with Chanel so those are positives for us fans.

  • Anna
  • Anna

Personal Shopper (Olivier Assayas; March 10)

After Clouds of Sils Maria, Personal Shopper confirms Olivier Assayas as the director most adept at drawing the best out of Kristen Stewart. Here she follows in the footsteps of Maggie Cheung and Asia Argento, actors whose exceptional central performances prevented fundamentally flawed films by Assayas – Clean and Boarding Gate, respectively – from foundering altogether. Stewart’s achievement is arguably even more remarkable considering that for the bulk of Personal Shopper’s running time, her only co-actor is an iPhone. – Giovanni M.C.

  • Anna

Like I said, no reason for any kind of drama (if you are a sane person).

“It is understood the personalities were shot separately, not as a group, and that this is the first time a man has appeared in a Chanel handbag ad.”

    https://twitter.com/wwd/status/816711549775708160

  • Anna

Yes but those were announced together as a group.
This was first announced as a Kristen’s campaign and now………………..
Anyway, it is what it is.

They are together in this campaign, they aren’t facing each other as opponents. I don’t see a reason for drama but boredom can make some people act like idiots.

  • Anna

    Great point (re: different bags).
It will be just one pic, most likely.

  • Guest

Tabloids aren’t exactly reasonable and I’m sure they’ll cook up their own narrative.

  • Anna

What narrative? They have an ex in common. Half of Hollywood is connected that way. That’s not anything new. It would be different if Kristen was still with St. Vincent. But she isn’t. Everyone moved on.

  • nuca

Me too! That was a very big achivement and a big step forward in her career

  • Eme

Probably. Karl, make it a really, really good one. I did like her picture for the purse campaign and there was a slow video of her posing which I really liked. Either way, she’ll bring it!!

  • Anna

    New pics.

Kristen and Stella, coffee run pics.

  • Anna

Good read (especially the first half).

    https://twitter.com/WriteoutofLA/status/816772911335931905

  • Anna

Yup! If you are to ask regular people who are the best actors/actresses, they will most likely mention those who excel in “loud” acting.

“Unfortunately, I seem to be the minority in feeling this way; Weiner was right—capital-A shouting Acting tends to win unless you’re in the final season of a critically-acclaimed series or nearing retirement age. However, from the POV of someone who has spent too much time studying human behavior, I feel some of the greatest performances I’ve seen are the quietest; that is, when an actor is capable of making us believe that they’re someone else without telling us that they are through grandiose, dramatic gestures. This includes capturing all of the puzzle pieces of their characters’ cultures, past experiences, personality traits, presenting problems, and pathology, and subsequently bringing them to life.”

  • Anna

    And another set of pics.

    Buying lunch with Stella.

  • Anna

I wonder why she wasn’t there this year. As a last year winner, she could have presented an award to someone. Opportunities like that to spend time and talk with the very best from the industry shouldn’t be missed, not when you are struggling with your career. But she’s too chill and reckless to think about it on her own and her good-for-nothing team won’t push her either. Sigh.

  • Guest

How many of last year’s winners presented awards this year? Most of the presenters have either a work or professional connection to the winners they present to.

  • BrendaStar

Good point as you wrote, and Anna already noticed. They each had their own style of bag to promote then. It looks like they are showcasing the same bag with different people t show how versatile it is this time. Anyway it is Chanel and Karl so it is still exciting.

  • Anna

Michelle won. For CW and MbtS. Do you need any other excuse?

  • Guest

I see you didn’t answer my question about how many of last year’s winners presented the award to the new winners, but as usual you put extra expectations on Kristen and then act like something is wrong with her when she doesn’t meet them. You surely know Michelle won for MBTS and CW was the “throw in” as that’s what every film critic/blogger/etc. thinks and you base everything on what they say. Kenneth Lonergan was her presenter and MBTS was one of the big winners, but no, the “costar” who she didn’t even work with on a movie no one really cares about should’ve given her the award, because Kristen is the one who decides these things and dropped the ball by not making herself a presenter, never mind what the NYFCC organizers want. I guess it’s another Chanel situation where Kristen isn’t “trusted” to hand out an award, right? She should’ve been the only winner from last year to attend and hand out an award, and something is wrong because she didn’t. You keep telling yourself what makes you feel good.

  • MCR

Aha – found you guys at last. 🙂

  • Anna

    Yay!

  • Anna

How the hell do you know CW was just an add in?! NYFCC doesn’t have to add anything; if they think CW is good, and they do, and that she was good in it, which, again, they do, why not give her an award for both? It’s been done before with others. SMH. Reducing CW to a “throw in”.
Kristen wasn’t just a co star. She’s a co-star who is a also a previous year’s winner and who, as you said so many times before, had an excellent year all together with all those movies coming out and big festivals (including NYFF), ect. So, why not invite her to present? And you can get an invitation if you and/or your team send a word that you are willing to do that. MbtS people who were there got plenty of attention one their own, one less presenting assignment wouldn’t harm anyone. No matter how much you are trying to twist what I’m saying, this is something that should be talked about. Kristen missing on opportunities like that one is an old story (but this time, in this very moment in her career, it’s more dangerous/harmful than it was before); her team doing nothing for her is that obvious that even some people in the industry are starting to wonder why is that because it doesn’t make any sense.
As for Chanel, time (well, 2017) will tell where she stands with her contract. I don’t think it looks good for her but I do hope I’m wrong.
Your constant defensive mode every time someone says that Kristen is doing certain things wrong is getting so old. Toughen up.

I’m tough as nails, dear, you’re the one who doesn’t like anyone challenging your “there is nothing to look forward to for Kristen/her career is effectively over” outlook. Thanks for your answer confirming you want Kristen to do what no other previous winners from last year did and that your personal expectations supersede those of the event organizers. Regarding Chanel, you’ve been claiming they’re on the outs for months now and she’s instead done multiple shoots for them and Karl.

You are the opposite of tough my dear. Yesterday’s convo about LLL confirms it.
As I said, other winners were most likely busy with their work (plays, filming, ect.). Also, none of them had co-stars winning this year for a movie they were part of. And are in far better place with their careers than Kristen is right now. So you see, I don’t give a damn about them; this was a nice chance for her and she missed it.
You can be happy with her latest career choices, no one says you can’t, but you need to let others say whatever they feel about current situation whether you like it or not. Your attacks on posters’ opinions here only show how unsecure you are.
She did one shoot with Karl for Vogue FR (a bad one) while failing to land that cover and one for this new campaign that she shares with 3 other people. That’s it. As far as we know. Last PFW she attended was in July 2015. Like I said, we’ll see.

  • Guest

You truly do not understand the concept of having a discussion. I accept that people have different opinions and want to discuss it. You’re the one who wants to shut those discussions down. But yes, continue with how *Kristen* missed an opportunity that only existed in your head. And I guess you’ll ignore how Chanel sent Kristen as their ambassador to important markets in China, South Korea, London, etc. despite missing PFW. They’ve partially funded movies of hers and custom made gowns and jewelry for her in Cafe Society. But yeah, her relationship with them and with movies in general is done.

  • Anna

    Nah, discussions aren’t your thing.
China: she was the face of that collection, it’s was her duty to be there.
London: she’s also face of that makeup line meaning, it was in her contract to be present. And, btw, that was a rather small event only for fashion industry people, no other big names attended to show support to Kristen, Chanel’s new makeup ambassadress (compare that to Lily’s LA dinner).
Seoul: it was almost two years ago and Chanel needed her there as almost everyone else with big enough name was in the U.S. for Met Gala.
Your opinion is that Chanel can’t get enough of Kristen. I see things differently. After all, it was Lily-Rose who got a special LA dinner in her honor when her new campaign came out; they never did anything like that for Kristen. It is Lily who is in their Christmas and New Year ads I’m seeing, not Kristen (and in all these years, they never used her for that), ect.
I’m the one who is *done* talking to you as you obviously have reading comprehension problems (much smaller contract =/= contract that is over).

  • Anna

I think this is a Dutch poster for PS (release date: Jan 26th). I like it better than the U.S. one.

  • Guest

Yes, yes, yes, Kristen always getting the short stick, Kristen being pushed aside, Kristen not doing enough. But if this diatribe makes you happy following such a failure, so be it. 😊

  • Eme

    Love his choices!

  • Anna

    Wrong.
To me Kristen isn’t a center of the world. Chanel is not there to please her, Hollywood doesn’t exist to accommodate her, the media, sadly, doesn’t need to see and report real facts about her, ect. It’s the other way around – she has to work for all of it accepting that there are some basic rules that must be followed. Just as everyone else who came before her did. If you think she’s *that* special that she doesn’t have to do all of that, so be it. I don’t. And you having issues with that isn’t my problem. But it’s rather interesting how much my opinions get under your skin. Maybe you should ask yourself why is that.

  • Anna

I like that they are more diverse than what mainstream awards (will) look like.

  • Guest

Sure, after you ask yourself why you are obsessed with an imaginary version of someone whose every aspect you want to change. 😊😊😊

  • Anna

    Yup, huge reading comprehension problems.

  • Eme

Yup. And I loved that he gave Mykelti Williamson (Fences) some love, as well as, Issey Ogata (Silence). Williamson was incredible in the film and Ogata is getting some praise from critics re his role (haven’t seen Silence yet so I can’t really comment specifically on his performance but I like that Davis gave him some attention).

    “Personal Shopper”

Director: Olivier Assayas (“Clouds Of Sils Maria”)

Cast: Kristen Stewart, Lars Eidineger, Sigrid Bouaziz, Anders Danielsen Lie

Synopsis: After the death of her twin, a young American woman in Paris receives a text that she believes could be from her dead brother.

Verdict: Like the Xavier Dolan film, “Personal Shopper” is a film that, despite our love for its director, we didn’t particularly like when it premiered at Cannes last year. But as with Assayas’ previous collaboration with Kristen Stewart, “Clouds Of Sils Maria,” it has plenty of fans, and is, as Jess said, “not an uninteresting [mess], and better than a staid, unadventurous bore,” so we’d be remiss in not putting it here. Mashing up the ghost story and the Hitchcockian thriller but done with an oblique arthouse sheen, it won Assayas the Best Director award at Cannes, even if Jess said of it “it’s genuinely difficult to work out how much of ‘Personal Shopper’ is meant to be trashy and kind of dumb, and how much ends up there accidentally.” If nothing else, it’s sure to be the focus of some of the best cinephile arguments of the year… But for what it’s worth, Gregory Ellwood put it on his Best Of 2016 Top 10 list and EIC Rodrigo Perez thought it compelling, warts and all.

Our Review: Jess gave it a C+ at Cannes

Release Date: Reportedly March 10th, via IFC.

  • Eme

Anna, so sorry I’m replying so late on this post. January is proving to be busy for me, so I’m finding myself coming here in short bursts and having to leave quickly. It would have been a nice opportunity for her to be at NYFF this year career-wise. It’s always important to keep yourself visible in any career, but especially in HW. I just don’t know how interested she is in doing so. We’ll see how 2017 pans out for her. Sigh.

  • Anna

    Yeah.
I think it’s kinda obvious even now (whole 2016, or everything that happened after this last summer, is a sign big enough) but this year will probably be a definite proof.
    Such a mess.

Anyway, try to have some rest too. And good luck with everything that is keeping you busy!

  • Eme

    Thank you, Anna.

  • Eme

Yeah, this is what I call a grudging acknowledgement – geez, could the writer been more mealy-mouthed? Either keep it off the list or acknowledge fully that you might not have gotten what the film was about in your critique! And I don’t care what the critics say, I’m going to see the film!

  • Anna

That’s her, the infamous Jessica K. Enough said.

  • Eme

Oh, that’s the *Jess* the writer is quoting! I totally forgot (blocked!) she writes for Playlist. Yeah, enough said. Geeeezzzzz!!!!!!

  • Anna

One unsolicited piece of advice: every time when you are about to read something from Playlist – check who wrote it. Some people there have *serious* negative bias against Kristen (proven in practice on multiple occasions).

  • Anna
  • Anna
  • Anna

    Personal Shopper (March 10)

The summary for Shopper sounds like the plot of a supernatural thriller: A young woman is overwhelmed by a mysterious spirit when she tries to communicate with the ghost of her dead brother. The intrigue comes in the reunion of filmmaker Olivier Assayas and Kristen Stewart, who starred in the director’s understated and emotionally asphyxiating Clouds of Sils Maria in 2014. That movie balanced negative space with fraught confrontations between its lead characters; had any one of them been a few tics darker, Sils Maria would have made a fine, All About Eve–style horror flick. The French brand of angst seems to drape over Stewart’s shoulders like an elegant Chanel jacket; she’s onscreen for every tense moment of Personal Shopper, and she’s rarely been better.

  • Anna
  • Anna

And that’s before it gets shown in theaters in many countries (well, in those that still have plans to release it). So already weak BO results will be even worse now (I was hoping that against all odds it would earn those $10M more that it now needs to cross the $40M mark thus at least getting its budget back).

  • Eme

Oh, ok. Wow, isn’t the Playlist a *biggie* in terms of critiques? Other than the infamous *Jess*, could you name the others – only if you’re comfortable in doing so. And with the clear understanding (from me anyways) that it is your *opinion* – js.

  • Eme

Yeah, I was also hoping it could get its budget back, never mind a profit! Such a letdown – for everyone involved and, for me as a Kristen fan.

  • Anna

They aren’t as big as Variety or THR, for example, but they are well known.
There’s this Kevin guy, too. But, at the time, there were two Kevins working for them and now there’s only one and he’s Managing Editor. I’m trying to remember what was the last name of the other one because I don’t think this Kevin is the right one.

  • Anna

I saw pics of Ang from last night’s NBR gala (National Board of Review) in NYC and he looks older somehow. I can’t even imagine how hard all of this with BLLHW was for him. And he seems like such a nice person. Sigh.

  • Eme

Yeah, I can imagine this is going to stay with him for awhile. Wish I could give him a hug.

  • Eme

Thanks. I’ll definitely take your advice re Playlist. Man, journalism isn’t the same as it was in my younger days. I was actually thinking of becoming a journalist when I was choosing my major in college lol!

  • nuca

Now I don’t understand this! Really, I loved this movie so much…

  • Anna
  • Anna

“Or, there’s Olivier Assayas’ “Personal Shopper” (March 10), which we particularly liked at Macau International Film Festival. Simon Abrams even called the film “unmissable” in his write-up.”

    https://twitter.com/ebertvoices/status/817041204890206208

  • Anna
  • Anna

WTF?! Why? If this is true, say goodbye to any chances of Kristen getting that nom.

“I just learned that #PersonalShopper is not in the movie package sent to [Academy] members for the #Césars.”

    https://twitter.com/TipouneKs/status/817305505173475328

  • Anna

I knew things in France were changing for Kristen and were becoming more similar to the way they are in the rest of the world (not exactly good) but this (if true)? This is them pulling IFC on her. SMH

[2016 was supposed to be so great for her but in reality it was just an empty media hype, all talk with zero results. The bubble she was in (and all of us with her) is finally gone. Sigh]

  • Anna
  • Anna

(Confirmed by one of those members.)

  • Eme

You mean one of the members for the Cesar noms? Who sends the packages? Is it the same as in the US? I have no words.

  • Anna

One of the Academy members. Academy sends those screeners to its members instead of distributors (that puts everyone in the same position as there are no “gifts” sent with screeners like in the U.S.). I’m not sure who is selecting those films, though.

I’m stunned. I just can’t believe it. Assayas was awarded in Cannes for it. It deserved to at least be in that group of movies.

Everything went downhill in 2016. Everything.

  • Eme

Wow. So, somebody must have said something for this to just be coming out now! And yes, the film deserved to at least be considered for best director prize. And, I have no doubt that Kristen would have gotten a nom.

  • Guest

Please don’t include “all of us” in your meltdown no. 1476338. Thanks.

  • Anna

The fan who posted that info follows that kind of stuff. Remember all those advanced screenings PS had in France? She tracked down all that info and posted about it. So I trust her and if she says PS wasn’t in that box, that was sent out around Dec 16th I think, then it really wasn’t. She only fond out about it now because they started voting for noms on Jan 2nd and people are talking about it.

  • Anna

Don’t worry, I never think about including you in anything. I never think about you. Period.

  • Guest

If you say so. Continue your meltdown. 😊

  • Eme

Well, as a Kristen fan, I ‘m very disappointed – maybe even a little heartsick for both Kristen and my Olivier. I always want her to receive all the critical acclaim and career recognition she deserves. Well, now that it’s out, hopefully, there’s a correction. Probably too late but I’ll hope for it anyway. Silver lining? At least someone noticed and it’s being discussed. Bbl.

  • Anna

I don’t think they were talking about it so that the omission could to be fixed; they were probably just acknowledging it as a fact.

  • Anna
  • Anna

    OT

Interesting read. And it’s not only about those two, when you think about it.

  • Eme

    Yup.

  • BrendaStar

Not everyone at RogerEbert loves PS. Barbara Scharres posted a negative review under their name from Cannes which was posted on RT.

“Whatever Stewart’s shortcomings, writer/director Assayas is the guy who has to stand up and take a bow for this bomb.”

  • BrendaStar

A nice article about the Chanel bag/purse campaign. Sorry but I really couldn’t find anything else work related. https://www.yahoo.com/style/chanel-announces-star-quartet-upcoming-gabrielle-bag-campaign-094732601.html

  • BrendaStar

I just saw on IMdb that there is leaked set footage from PS. SneakPeek has it. I am not sure if that is harmful.

  • Eme

Thank you, Brenda. I like the design except for the chain handles which I think would hurt the shoulders – unless the leather strap I see is actually what hits the shoulders. Doesn’t matter, lol, since I couldn’t afford it anyway!

  • Anna
  • Anna

And then you have a few of them who either don’t care or simply have the biggest talent for self-destruction. The key question here: is/was it truly worth it?

“The singular combination of talent, white skin, friends in high places, and male genitalia are tools in a toolbox that women simply don’t have total access to, and—while privilege certainly comes into play among actresses—all women in Hollywood are at some level of disadvantage. “Women just know they have to behave in a certain way,” says Silverstein. “We don’t see female scandals because women’s careers and women’s actions don’t escalate to that level because they know they won’t survive.” “

  • Anna

There isn’t anything else out there right now work related, Brenda, so you are good 🙂

  • Anna

I like the black one better than the white version of it.

  • Anna

Is it Kristen filming a scene at a metro station? If so, it’s old.

  • Anna
  • Anna
  • Anna
  • Anna

That’s the piece that I think the film holds—that you see Kristen Stewart just exhausted, driving hours for the one job she could find in the area, and maybe ten guys have that same job right in town. And Michelle is deemed, I think, with judgment because she’s a bargainer, or she’s trying to get what she wants, where she’s tough on her husband. He’s cheating. Men get what they want all the time, and they’re doing it around her. It’s interesting. I think that character is sort of asking for what she wants, and you can come across as like, “Oh, she’s bitchy.”

  • Anna

    Polarizing movie is polarizing.

  • Anna
  • Eme

Reading this reminded me of the moments in the film that stayed with me. She points to all the moments in her piece that I found hilarious and how that sentence “it would be so restful” is Kelly at her best.

  • Eme

No surprise that Jessica K. “kinda hated it” among the three critics at Playlist. She is, if anything, consistent. Smh.

  • Anna
  • Anna
  • Anna
  • BrendaStar

    🙂

  • BrendaStar

Your welcome, Eme. I agree it would be more comfortable for the leather strap to hit the shoulders. We should tell when we see the campaign pics on April 3.

  • BrendaStar

Me too! I really like the purse. Unfortunately it’s out of my price range:'(

  • Anna

Yeah. We can only dream about it. LOL

  • Anna

And the Oscar for the ugliest costumes goes to…………………………………….. LOL

  • BrendaStar

I had not seen this one! It is beautiful, and Kristen can wear her hair at any length

  • BrendaStar

I think it is old then.

  • Anna
  • BrendaStar

Yes, but some of the dissenters are predictable __Jessica Kiang for example. I’m going to look up Barbara Scharres next_ altho she is a top critic.

  • BrendaStar

I liked the pics, and some were new to me.

  • Anna

Jessica is biased. With her it goes deeper than disliking Kristen as an actress, I think.

  • Anna

    New pics.

Kristen and Stella and friends smoking after lunch.

  • Anna

Sigh. She cut her hair again. Probably prep for Sundance or something.

You know, her insisting on short hair means she probably isn’t thinking about getting in full acting mode any time soon.

  • Anna

She’s getting too thin and she’s smoking way too much, more than ever before I would say.
And the absolute lack of care how she looks like in last few months…………………….. Sigh.

  • NONA
  • Eme

Yes, one of my favorites also.

  • Anna

Savannah had a big undercut. Her hair wasn’t like that at all (it was short but not that kind of short).

  • Anna

Well, we can’t see other side of Kristen’s head but I doubt that side is shaved.

  • BrendaStar

Thanks, Anna. I guess those pics are from early 2014. That was a cute haircut. Loved the hair color & makeup too. Just great look IMO. Lots of fans love her long hair. I like it too. It’s a tie actually with that short cut. Maybe Stella who has beautiful hair can teach Kristen something about hair care.

  • Anna

Oct 7th or 8th, 2014 (I think). She was in prep for CXR premiere in NYC before NYFF.

I like her hair clean and healthy. That’s all I ask for. And it wasn’t that way in a long time (almost a year now).

  • BrendaStar

LOL indeed! Actually the outfits remind me of what I wore when I did some student teaching a long time ago. I did not dress for success either.

  • Anna

Well, *some* of those pieces aren’t *that* bad on their own but they way she’s wearing them…huge no! LOL

  • Eme

And the outfits were perfect for her character – a young, inexperienced, harried lawyer totally over her head teaching a course to teachers resenting the course and her. She embodied her character totally!

  • Anna

That’s true. But she looks like she’s still living in the ’80s. LOL

  • Eme

Um, not in any universe would I be caught wearing any of the pieces, together or separate. Just . . No.

  • Anna

Well, that yellow sweater (pic on the right) would be fine for when I’m vacuuming. LOL

  • BrendaStar

Stella looks like she takes care of herself. I keep hoping Stella will teach Kristen something about hair care. I hoped SV would be a positive influence too, but that relationship was over quickly . I like that Stella had a good education and looks nice most of the time. I haven’t seen many comments about this relationship other than it won’t last. I hope it will.

  • Eme

Adding to the theme of *out of place* for her. Lol – living in the 80’s. Gurl, some of the best times of my life were experienced in the 80’s. And before you ask, no I did not dress like that!

  • Eme

    Hahaha!!!

  • Anna

I don’t think anyone can get through Kristen right now. She has to resolve some issues with herself in her own head, IMO (sadly, I think it will get worse before it gets better).

  • Anna

Hey, I always was a very practical girl – everything can find its use. LOL

  • Anna

I like ’80s (was born then)! Well, except for the fashion from that time. LOL

  • Eme

Well, there’s practical, and then there’s . . . .! Don’t you think you might get a little bit hot? And, it looks like it might make one feel itchy lol!

  • BrendaStar

Lucky you Eme! I forgot you saw CW. I expect I will like it too. I am really interested in seeing PS too, but I have mixed feelings that it might scare me.

  • Anna

Itchy for sure (I hate those!) but hot? Nah, not really (I’m rather sensitive to cold).

  • Eme

OMG! That makes me feel so old. You’re probably my daughter’s age! And I disliked 80’s fashion!

  • Anna

I’m just few years older than Kristen. LOL

Nah. You don’t sound old at all. I would never guessed your age.

  • Eme

Oh, I hope you get to see CW. It’s a lovely film. And I am looking forward to PS – scariness and all!

  • Eme

Well, I have been told I don’t act my age lol! I wear that like a badge of honor! And I always go for the edge in life!

  • Anna

Honor it is. Nothing wrong with feeling young (but not immature) and full of life as long as you can.

  • Eme

    Absolutely!

  • Eme

Man, that’s a lot of smoke in one area. With all the health warnings against smoking, I’ve just never understood young people smoking at all. And, I’m sorry but that smoke smell lingers on your person and clothing. Just, no for me. But, choices are all one’s own. As her fan, I wish she’d take care of her health more.

  • Anna
  • Anna

Well, how she smells (and looks, in general) wasn’t one of Kristen’s priorities in quite some time. And you know that absolute lack of care for your appearance is usually not a good sign.
(Biting my tongue to stay within those 10%.).

    Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk

This is a satirical story directed by Ang Lee, starring Joe Alwyn and Kristen Stewart, about war and jingoism on the home front. It could be inspired by Clint Eastwood’s Flags of Our Fathers. Billy Lynn is a US soldier whose company survives a brutal battle in Iraq to find the TV news media has turned them into stars. They are taken on an official promo tour of the US that includes a halftime show at a Dallas football game, which triggers agonising flashbacks.

    • 10 January.

(P.S. There’s zero, and I do mean zero, promo for it. I’m also seeing French fans complaining about that.)

  • Anna

    Certain Women

Much admired American auteur Kelly Reichardt adapts a series of intersecting stories by Maile Meloy that chronicle life in smalltown Montana . Featuring Laura Dern, Michelle Williams and Kristen Stewart.

    • 3 March.

    Personal Shopper
Kristen Stewart reunites with French director Olivier Assayas (Clouds of Sils Maria) for a bizarre, uncategorisable film. She plays a fashion PA who is attempting to contact her dead twin through ESP, all the while burrowing into the identity of her fashion-model employer.

    • 3 March.

  • MCR

I’m delighted somebody actually recognized it as a satire. I think one of many problems with the movie was that people didn’t know in advance what it was – just like American Ultra.

  • MCR

I still think you’re at least overstating it.

  • Anna

I hope I am, MCR, I really hope I am.
But I had those same hopes before re some other stuff and it didn’t end well.

  • Anna

Yup. And good promo could have fixed that.

  • BrendaStar

It is nice to be able to follow the progress of CS on Woody Allen Pages.

  • BrendaStar

That is sad, Anna. I don’t know enough to say one way or another. I do hope that the hair is in preparation for the JT LeRoy film which is based on true events. Kristen often tends to inhabit the role imo before, during and after. It seemed that way to me especially with The Runaways and On the Road. Both were biographical even On the Road to some extent which was a novel.

  • Anna

That’s true (about TR and OTR) and I would definitely prefer if that is what’s going on right now with her.
But, JT LeRoy doesn’t have a start date, Franco dropped out, no signs whats so ever that they are even working on pre-production so I don’t think this what we are seeing has anything to do with it.
You know what was a red flag for me? Kristen smoking a joint on set of Lizzie, openly where everyone could see her including paps. You don’t do that. Period! That’s what your trailer is for. It doesn’t matter that the production is so small, that the movie will probably be a shitty one – professionalism matters. And she used to be very professional on sets, no matter what. Even when everything else sucked in her career, she behaved on film sets. It was the most important thing for her – the process of making a movie. Now it seems she can’t enjoy it, not even that. Plus, there are multiple sightings of her being drunk in Savannah (apparently, that’s how she got those injuries) and in LA after she came back (one by a MTV producer), she has pipe burns on her hand, her home is a mess (judging by those videos her friends are posting), she’s surrounded by people who act like real enablers (her circle of friends split up last year and she ended up with not the best of them, except few people), her appearance is just terrible (when was the last time we saw her with clean hair and clothes?). NYFF was a real mess. And so on and on.
Sorry for the rant but things don’t look good.

  • Eme

I didn’t see the joint pic (thank goodness). Agee that it wasn’t professional behavior. I can’t comment on the rest (I did know that she fell while out with her friends) because I don’t have access to those tweets/discussions. Do wish I could give her a hug.

  • Anna

Hug won’t resolve any of that, Eme. Sadly. IMO, she needs help. And stability, something she lost last year. I’m just waiting for the other shoe to drop, tbh.

  • Eme

I know. But since I have no access to her, it’s the only thing I can offer. If I did, as a licensed mental health professional, I would have some suggestions for her. But only after a long, honest discussion with her, because as it stands, we really don’t know what’s going on with her.

  • Anna

    True.
Part of the problem is that she probably never had that long deep conversation with someone and things only got worse with time, IMO. And now it looks like she’s completely lost. IDK, I though the fact she hit rock bottom once will help her to not repeat that self-destructive behavior again but it seems I was wrong.

  • Eme

We all have our demons. And I sincerely hope that she obtains whatever help she needs, professional, personal, or both, so that she continues to be able to do the work she is passionate about (whatever that may be) and, hopefully, as a fan, I can enjoy.

  • Anna

    I know. And I agree.
I’m didn’t say any of this because I hate her or because I think everyone else is perfect. I just worry. And it’s not even about her career anymore, stakes are much higher now.

  • Eme

    Oh, trust me, I agree.

(Notice the number of RTs and likes that tweet got. Just a year ago this fandom was big enough to achieve that. Now………………………………)

Perhaps it has less to do with the fandom, and more to do with Kristen not being the one nominated. It should be Lily’s fans supporting her. And other things could be keeping people from responding as much. Social media can be brutal and nasty.
Since Thanksgiving, I have only been on my laptop once or twice. I haven’t turned on my tablet in weeks. Even when I use my smartphone. I don’t linger and rarely make a response. Things are just to negative, crazy and off putting, and not just on-line.

  • Anna

I wasn’t comparing those numbers to Lily’s but the those Kristen gets now.

Sorry I misunderstood! I am distancing myself from social media. I post very little and I visit fewer sites. I can’t help but wonder if others have slowed down. However I have not changed as a fan. I still support her movies and buy her DVDs. I am actually in the middle of a Twilight marathon on cable.

  • Alfred Birchall

This comment is to Anna & Eme ( and anyone else for that matter ) I have scrolled down and seen your recent concerns re Kristens current appearance It is worrying and I hope it has more to do with anxiety over the reception for “Come Swim ” than anything else. Sundance is just a week away and there is a lot of K personal emotions tied up with the short that she has put so much into already. This may not be popular but she has seemed fragile since she broke up with Alicia. She had seemed so happy and relaxed at Cannes and afterwards for a while. I think A was a solid place for Kristen and she seems like she is drifting for some time now. Deep down I have always thought she is not the party animal type and is happiest when she is working. I have never expected her to be a movie star She is so much more than that.26 is a funny age for a woman So many expectations are placed on the shoulders I know she has been strong in the past . Just needs the right influences and she is missing them at the moment. JMO

  • Anna

No, it’s fine. I actually agree with your first post – things in real world are really serious now so priorities must change.
As for slowing down…that did happen. But I guess that’s the nature of all once huge fandoms.

  • Anna

    Hey, Sue!
Agree with what you said about Alica. With her Kristen had the kind of stability I think she craves. I also agree re those bad influences you mentioned. She lacks solid support system right now.
And yes lets hope she’s stressed because of Come Swim because better that than the alternative. I don’t think that’s the case but who knows. All we can do is sit and watch what happens next.

  • Alfred Birchall

Hi Gillian I too have distanced myself from SM interaction The 3 months in Australia before Christmas gave me very few occasions to get on line.I find I did not miss it that much in the end Although it is nice to catch up on occasion with like minded people .. Even if we never meet Lol.I had CS and Equals ordered whilst we were away and I have enjoyed watching them both very much over the Christmas /NY period.I am not so gloomy about the current state with K career I believe she has never been motivated by accolades. Consider who actually won BSA last year and the one before Alicia V and I cant remember the other one…I can always watch Kristens movies and get something different every time. She gives value for money I saw the Danish Girl and once was enough for example..My hubby is a manic Stones fan and for his birthday (17/11 ) I ordered Lonesome and Blue Then K gets on down in the Video That was awesome…

  • Anna

When even regular moviegoers are mocking Kristen’s agency. Sigh.

  • Alfred Birchall

I think it was a huge relief to out herself when she did and maybe with youth’s inexperience she believed that was all she had to do .To put it out there. But its not even about the gender or description it is about he person Always..She has had so many influential female “mentors ” but none of them have been in her exact position. She always praises her mum but that relationship is a query too. ( can tell these things because I have unusual relationships with both my daughters .Not the same with either but not the obvious ) I am too honest for either of them LOL Actually she didnt get an immediate backlash from anywhere. Apparently there is a culture of Celesbians at the present ..Stella and Cara D are the leading lights apparently.. If I am completely honest I think The RP thing did do a number on her and the repercussions are still deep . I know she identifies as fluid but emotion doesn’t gender identify..

  • Anna

Agreed. That’s why I said she has no good support system (except for her dad, maybe, he has his own life so…….). I’ll never forget that one time when Kristen said it was her mom who pushed her to do SWATH when Kristen was close to not accepting it and I’m not saying this because of what happened in 2012 but because Jules should have known that the very last think her daughter needed was another franchise (SWATH was supposed to be that at the time) before Twilight ended. But what do I know.
As for her coming out…kinda agree. I think she missed a huge chance to have her team create a narrative for the first time in her career, so that things could be easier for her when it comes to general public. But with Ruth all you are going to get is a mess. So things are even worse now. The only reason everything isn’t a complete catastrophe is, as you said, this “celesbian” trend happening right now. But as every other trend, this won’t last long either. In the end, she will be left with an empty celebrity persona known for her sexuality and multiple GFs she dated. No actress wants that.
RE your last lines…I think that relationship (that was obviously quite a rocky experience as I don’t think Pattinson was easy to be with) in combination with the media chaos it caused (especially after the scandal) and the sudden fame that happened at the same time only added to her already messed up head (everyone is messed up in late teens-early twenties because there’s so many important things about yourself you need to figure out) and her anxieties. All of that together was like a ticking bomb, IMO. I wouldn’t be surprised if it left a bad taste in her mouth.

  • Anna
  • Alfred Birchall

I totally concur with everything you said there… Film entertainment is in a funny place these past few years and the cult of celebrity above all talent required is heinous ( Kardashians and their ilk ) How can you establish a footing where you are safe to move forward is very tricky. She navigated 2012 which would have crushed the majority. Since jun 2013 she has accomplished some stellar work and critics have recognise this. I don’t think she will ever go for an Oscar bait role and that leaves fans disappointed for her ..The whole Twilight stuff did a number on her head but she always is thankful for it ..The strange thing about life is you can only have true perspective when you are at a point closer to the end of it. Nothing ever pans out the way its expected to. Hindsight is only truly available at the point it doesn’t really make any difference any more Women in film get a raw deal The roles available after 30 are usually mothers or bitter unclaimed women with an agenda Lol..After that Film Noir for NYT I could see her in a Gangsters moll role with the upper hand as she is actually the Boss and the guy is the patsy that gets it in the guts Lol….

  • BrendaStar

Thanks for being so honest about your concerns. It is hard for me to know how to respond. There are definitely some red flags in her recent behavior. It is just that we don’t know for sure. I do know that she has to want to change and search for help if she needs it. If she is surrounded by enablers that will make it doubly hard.

  • Anna

    Agreed.

  • BrendaStar

    So happy for Lily.

  • Anna

Exactly. That’s why I worry – instead of making her snap out of it, so to say (I know that solution is not as simple), people closest to her are looking for their own interests, IMO. It’s a sad situation to observe.

  • Alfred Birchall

Brenda ..Anna and I have been discussing this above in some detail and I think many long term fans have somethings to be concerned about.. I have a son who has had issues with depression since he was a teenager We have done the whole Drugs /alcohol dependence thing and it is exhausting for people around who are invested in the happiness of the person having issues.. Kristen has always kept her oldest friends close But that dependence is consuming and since the Soko fling she has lost some of her original companions.. I am not shading Stella M but she has been around the block already..When it all goes pear shaped they are not invested enough to stick it out

  • Anna

Yup. And she’s showing all the signs.
Also, since she broke up with Alicia (back in Sept 2015) her group of friends started splitting up. That stopped after they got back together but after this fall and the final breakup, it all over. Sadly, the better part of that group went with Alicia and Alannah or they just moved on with their lives and careers (it happens to all of us in mid twenties when things are starting to get serious for the first time in our life). Kristen is now left with not so good people (including CJ).

  • BrendaStar

That is true enough! Drug & alcohol dependency and depression are tough on relationships. It’s just that I don’t want to believe the situation is so bad. I will seriously be watching for how things go at Sundance.

  • Anna
  • BrendaStar

It is so encouraging to see that those two critics chose Kristen for a BSA nomination for Certain Women.

  • BrendaStar

Yes! We all want a healthy and happy Kristen!!

  • Alfred Birchall

I am not suggesting dependency issues but the attitude of the young generation is to accept the things they see as a short term solution for darker deeper problems. The Young have always thought themselves invincible. Life experience teaches otherwise.. We as fans appreciate the sensibility that K brings to her work in all her many roles. She gives value for money all the way along But that heightened sensibility brings vulnerability . Just consider the crap she has dealt with in the media for the past 4/5 years . it would take the hide of a rhinoceros to not be affected at all.

  • Anna

    Wisely said, Sue!

  • BrendaStar

Sorry, I misunderstood, and Kristen has been through a lot.

  • NONA

yes, but it’s difficult to judge her status based on paparazzi photos, tweets, instagram photos. there is much pressure on her on the sundance directorial debut as she cannot count on critics or fan support for such an esoteric film. she has already said people won’t like it but hopefully will appreciate that it is well done. hoping fans & followers won’t go overboard with anti-kristen reactions online.

  • Anna

If her short is not to our or critics’ liking? Fans will stand by her, as always. Everyone is already prepared for not getting it just as majority never got that poem she shared either. That won’t be what will send this fandom overboard but if she continues with this odd behavior even during Sundance promo then people will judge. And they have every right to do so. There’s no reason for her not to be professional (which includes looking at least clean and presentable and cutting down swearing during interviews).

  • MCR

And yet Driver’s career has been going well, unless I’m mistaken. Is that because of Gersh or in spite of Gersh?

  • Anna

    In spite.
It helps that he is well liked and knows how to maintain his connections within the industry. And, above all, he is a guy – out of 10 good roles, 9 are for actors.

  • Eme

    Huh? Smh.

  • Eme

“Take your broken heart, make it into art”. Carrie Fisher. Hope we hear some news of good projects soon.

  • Anna

He responded to her speech. And it’s exactly what you would expect from him but nothing like what PEOTUS should say/do.

  • Anna

It used to be like that (see: 2013) but now, not even that is enough to make her react.

  • Anna

Exactly. She didn’t have to say those things but she did it anyway.
But only someone who has little to lose (because, she’s a legend, it’s a done deal, and thus she’s as safe as it gets) could do it. Darn catch 22.

  • Eme

I figured as much. I ignore his tweets – they add nothing to my life.

  • Eme

I’m not prepared to go there yet. Let’s see how 2017 goes first.

  • Anna

I’m all for that (hell, I’m still here, am I?) but that gut feeling I have . . . not good.

  • Eme

I think it was because she knew her own power that she offered the challenge to her peers and all of us to place compassion, honesty and truth to be in the forefront as never before. And because she believes in all that she said last night.

  • Eme

    Yeah, I know.

  • Anna

    Agree!
But how many actors/actresses/industry people in Hollywood can “survive” attack from *him* and his supporters (who are uninhibited) that will surely follow every single comment of that kind? Because he won’t stop doing this, he won’t stop going after people even after he moves in the White House. How many of them will be ready to publicly criticize POTUS (not some ordinary politician or any other powerful public figure but a POTUS) knowing that maybe even their personal safety might be endangered because of it? Things are out of control right now and people will think 10 times before they say something in the way Meryl did, IMO. Which makes what she did that much more important.

  • Eme

Oh, just saw the mix-up of Hidden Figures being called Hidden Fences. I guess that was what you were referring to, skeptical. Sorry, wasn’t watching the show so I’m just now catching up with all of what went down last night!

  • Eme

    Agree.

  • MCR

Do I even have to say it?

  • MCR

I thought his reaction was hilarious. He called her “one of the most overrated actresses in Hollywood.” The man’s just making a fool of himself. (Not to minimize the fact that it will cause some negativity from his devotees, as Anna said.)

  • Anna

I wish the media would do the same. But, sadly, the spend more time talking about his tweets than about his and his team’s politics. SMH

  • Anna
  • MCR

If you’ll excuse some old business, I’d like to bring up the NY Times’ newest Great Performers series – in which the Times critics choose the very best actors of the year and have them do a mini-short that showcases their talent. (There’s an article on KSD about it, but it hasn’t really been discussed by this group that I recall.)

I know this was a month ago, but I only just read the entire article below on the actors chosen, and was struck by the lavish praise Kristen got for her recent work. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/12/08/magazine/great-performers-la-noir-the-years-most-captivating-film-performances.html?smid=tw-nytmag&smtyp=cur&_r=0

“…Kristen Stewart is the new Robert deNiro.”

“…she burrows as deeply as De Niro ever has into the interiors of her characters, arranging her expressions, her carriage, her vocal inflections — even, it can seem, her height and bone structure — accordingly.”

“…having been made, perhaps reluctantly, into a movie star by the “Twilight” movies, she has lately reinvented herself as the character actor she might have always preferred to be.”

“I think Kristen Stewart is just about the best American movie actress we have.”

In her unglamorous role in Certain Women, Kristen has “none of the kind of ostentatious deglamorization that stars sometimes traffic in when they are shopping for Academy hardware. If this is realism, it’s the kind that forces you to acknowledge the gaps and blurry spaces in your previous conception of reality.”

    And much more.

I’m so impressed by this recognition, which is also a bit of an antidote to the “her career is going down the tubes” worrying some of us have been encountering.

  • Anna

    Not really 😉

  • Anna
  • Anna

(Wish others could start seeing her in that light as well, though. Sometimes I wonder whether it might be too late for that. And, as of lately, Kristen isn’t helping either. But I have to hope one day things will change. She’s only 26, almost 27 yo, after all. Wish talent was all she needs but that’s not how life works. Sigh.)

  • Anna

PS: new scene + German trailer (2 in 1).

  • Anna

Just saw this pic (somehow, I managed to miss her very first reaction to winning GG).

Even those who don’t act for awards, who love the art for sake of it aren’t immune to this feeling when they know their good work was finally recognized and fully validated. Everyone wants awards (and thus, on some level, it must hurt when they don’t get them even if they don’t care admitting it), it’s just that for some they aren’t a priority.

  • BrendaStar

    Nice advice for artsy folk.

  • Anna

I knew about this since the film’s opening weekend but now we have a pic as a proof.

This is a screencap of a scene from Why Him? movie in which Franco’s character is showing photographs of his ex GFs to his current GF’s dad and in one of them you can see him and Kristen (the joke goes something like “so, that was the wild one?” or something like that). I didn’t see the movie, this is what I was told.
Judging by her hair, the photo was taken during fall of 2015 or early last year (if it is a real pic and it looks like it is). I do wonder if that dog is Cole.
Anyway, it’s one more sign of how obsessed Franco is with her.

Just a quickie The whole of the speech that Meryl Streep gave to the GG awards ceremony was actually very inciteful and totally on point. She wasn’t just going after Trump but by revealing origins for some of the brightest stars and their humble beginnings she was keeping it real in the hysteria that his World View might engender for the rest of the USA in the coming political period…The rest of the world are incredulous that a man like Trump could have ever been elected Damage limitations are in order as far as the rest of the World is concerned .. I am in UK and we have more than enough politic problems of our own to deal with. On the point of trumps actual parodying of a disabled persons speech and gestures That was way below the belt. My youngest grandson has Down syndrome and at 6 he is still non verbal.. We communicate with him in Makaton sign language and he shows subtlety and empathy in all his communication . But to see a person in such a position of power taking the piss out of a disability It hurts really deeply . That man needs taking down The actions he shows gain him no respect in the World community. America may have voted for him as he swears he will put Americans first..They may find that first is a very lonely place in the end…Rant over …Sue Birchall member of the human race.

solid praise, well-deserved. thank you for posting

  • NONA

cute couple (with Franco as the 3rd wheel, ha)
rumored to be a manipulation given Franco’s reverse aging

  • Anna

Here’s the thing: he looks younger in that pic than how he looks now in real life (but that makes sense since the photo is supposed to be from the past) so some kind of editing must have been done. Dog looks like Cole but I’m not 100% sure it is her. And then there’s Kristen. I have a really good memory and that pic of her *is* new; meaning, it wasn’t publicly released before so he couldn’t just google it and use it for photoshop. Who knows what happened. Maybe she send him a pic of her and then people involved in making Why Him added Franco or maybe Kristen really took a pic with him and then they just made him look younger. Either way, she must have known because you can’t use someone’s pic just like that in movies, I think (laws and stuff). Plus, they were supposed to work together on JT LeRoy project so they were definitely taking (they even met in NYC while she was filming CS).

  • Anna

    Well said, Sue!

Hi Nona, I’m sorry that I missed your comment. I can agree in that I have no idea how Kristen is really feeling these days from the pictures I see. I also agree it probably is stressful as she waits for thereaction to her short at Sundance. Jan 19 is the release date so we only have 10 more days of waiting.

And there’s also a sighting of her and Stella from last week, I think (lady didn’t say the exact date). Good, strongly worded article, too. “Even as Trump’s surrogates are forced to lamely defend him, a handful of others are waking up to the reality that he’s psychologically incapable of being presidential.” Waking up just a leetle too late, unfortunately.

  • MCR

Hmm. You know, that Shkreli guy just got kicked off Twitter for a similar photo manipulation.

  • MCR

She’s clearly over her caution with the public.

  • Anna

I think even those who get to realize how wrong they were won’t say it out loud because…shame, ego, ect.

  • Anna

She went from one extreme to another.
Maturing is what she needs to do. And do it soon and fast. Things she got away with when she was 20 or 22 won’t pass now (that includes how she looks, too), not even with her fans (I just saw a girl who was one of the best known fans in this fandom, one of the good ones, author of those famous fan videos, turning into something that’s not really a hater but is exactly how general public talks about Kristen now – mockingly.) Sigh.

  • Anna

That’s why I said it must have been done with Kristen’s permission.

  • MCR

    Hope so.

Scans. It’s a new interview from Cannes with both of them.

    https://twitter.com/StewartKOnline/status/818839137105145858

  • Anna

Answer to the last question is *quite* interesting. And meaningful, especially now because it’s obvious she somehow lost that after Cannes.
Silver lining is that she at least knows what she needs. Now she only has to get it back.

  • Anna

Or maybe it wasn’t, she found out and he got kicked out of JT LeRoy project because of it (which doesn’t make sense as it is his movie – his company is suppose to produce it).

  • Anna

(Also, Meryl was brave to say what she did but so is Sasha with posts like that one. Her site is the source of her income so she’s risking a lot more.)

  • Guest

There are many websites out there for you to write your fanfiction about her personal life and relationships, of which you know nothing. It’s like reading a tabloid, the way you pretend to know her inner workings.

  • Anna

Her personal relationships were part of Kristen’s own words, not mine.
    So, try again.

  • Guest

I’m referring to the way you pretend to know what she has to “get back”, and what’s “obvious” that she “lost”, like you know what’s wrong with her.

  • Anna

    Okay.
So you are saying that a 26 yo person who is in a good place in her life and career goes and shows a middle finger salute from the stage on which she is being *honored* and interviewed by NYFF’s director in a room full of important people who payed $2K (!) to be there? That’s normal to you, a sign of respect and maturity? If it is, well then, you need to grow up as well. ASAP. Or you want to tell me that smoking a joint on a set (which is her place of work) out in the open where everyone can see is a good choice? If you are not aware of it, that is considered to be extremely unprofessional behavior. So you see, I don’t need to pay attention to her personal life (although, that’s hard not to as it’s all we are getting to see lately) to notice that something is way off with her. You can keep your head buried in sand if you like, that’s your prerogative, but don’t expect others to do the same.

  • MCR

Or she didn’t give permission, but let it go because it was already in the movie when she found out, they were supposed to be working together, and she didn’t want to be seen as making a fuss.

  • Anna

That sounds like something Kristen would do. But Franco, apparently, is not part of that project anymore (as an actor, not sure about his producing role).

  • Anna

And this might be our BP Oscar nominated films this year (if Academy goes for 10 noms which probably won’t happen).

PGA (Producers Guild of America ) just announced its noms:

  • Anna

I guess, all that campaigning behind close doors (and in public) payed off for Deadpool (it got in but Silence, Jackie, Loving, ect. didn’t).

  • Anna

(I know this is how it goes and it’s the same thing with all well known actors-turned-directors but I really don’t like this situation where you don’t know if they are putting her on these lists because she’s Kristen Stewart or because they think/know her short is actually good. Nine more days.)

    https://twitter.com/IndieWire/status/818872548435705856

  • Anna

    “Come Swim”

    Director/screenwriter: Kristen Stewart

One of the most anticipated and buzzed about shorts at this year’s festival is a17 minute experimental film with an impressionistic aesthetic. Unavailable for pre-festival screening, it’s described as a diptych of one man’s day; half impressionist and half realist portraits. It also happens to be the directorial debut of Kristen Stewart. St. Vincent makes her debut film as a film composer with this short as well.

Stewart explained the origins of this short in her official director’s statement: “This film all started with an image. The idea of how pleasant a nap on the ocean floor might be. The lovely isolation from anything else that breathes, or any compulsive thought process. I painted it. I wrote poetry about why I painted it. I wanted to capture this image as obsessively as the recurring thoughts that conjured the image in the first place. What started with one picture in my mind became something much more expansive. I wrote an outline and reviewed poems written over the past few years. I found a through line. The painting. The words. Everything was connected. I had finally found my first piece.”

Stewart’s short and Anu Valia’s “Lucia, Before and After,” which is also playing Sundance, are part of Refinery29’s Shatterbox Anthology, a short film series formed with creative support from Women at Sundance.

  • Anna

Well, after reading that whole article, it seems they know a lot more about other films on the list (in fact, it sounds like they saw most of them and 2 are even posted for everyone to watch) so I’m close to think Come Swim ended up there only because of who Kristen is. Maybe it will justify the trust they’re putting in it. I sure hope so.
Anyway, quite interesting group of shorts with great subjects some done by experienced filmmakers (one even features Isabelle H.!).

  • Guest

People like you have been bitching about her flipping people off (done totally as a joke at NYFF btw) and smoking pot for years. No one she’s worked with has ever called her unprofessional. I’m sure they know way more than you do.

  • Anna

Oh grow up! There are other ways to joke with people aside from flipping them off. Are you a teenager? We are not talking about her friends here but important industry persons who *payed* considerable amount of money to be there and hear supposedly smart, hard working and successful young lady talking about her career. They got some of that with a lot of F bombs and finger salute which I don’t think was what they were looking for nor what they deserved to get. What would do say about that kind of behavior if it wasn’t Kristen, if it was someone else, some other actor/actress?
She was never perfect and no one expects her to be. But lately her attitude changed and is bad, too bad even for hers, already lowered, standards. You need to face that fact.

As always, it’s just miraculous that you waste your time on someone you clearly despise. Sorry, continue your meltdown number 353167875 or whatever it is. I’ve lost count.

  • Anna

Honey, only person here who gas a meltdown every time I post something is – you.
    Enjoy your day.

  • Anna

You mean, in 9 days which is more than a week? Or will they have a pre-premiere?

  • MCR

I think Sundance is fairly selective.

  • Anna

They are. But so is Cannes, for example, and we know some not so good films (I’m not talking about polarizing movies) get selected every year because of ~reasons.

  • Guest

Lol where’s my meltdown? You’re the one who writes melodramatic essays to herself.

  • Anna

Essays? LOL. So everything that’s more than one or two lines is and essay to you? That’s…telling.
Also, why are you reacting to them every.single.time? You know what, don’t tell me. Not interested.

  • Guest

There’s plenty I don’t bother with. But I felt like pointing out that your writing above is pure fanfiction based on your paranoia.

  • Anna

I’ve noticed. As a matter of fact, the *only* thing you are “bothered” with on this site are my posts. There must be something special about them.

  • Guest

    “Special” indeed.

  • CJ

Are you crazy? What am I reading? I was there! I paid $2K to see Kristen and I can tell you NO ONE, I repeat, NO ONE in that room was offended by Kristen jokingly showing her middle finger. Everyone was delighted by a smart, sweet, young talented actress talking passionately about her projects. You have problems, not Kristen and you’re projecting your problems on Kristen! That’s insane!

  • Bliss

Hello! Just got back from seeing La La Land! It was ok–pleasant, cute main actors! Hm…why did it get all these awards?!

  • Anna

Really? So you talked with *all* of them who were in that room? Just because they laughed at some of her jokes (we all did) it doesn’t mean they were happy about that other stuff (based on what few other people who also were there told me).
You are a fan who got to see Kristen in person, to spend some time in the same room as her and you were happy because of it. That’s all understandable. Others attendees weren’t (fans) and some of them weren’t as impressed with her. Guess whose opinion counts more (sadly).
(I would also tell you to compare Kristen’s and Adam Driver’s dinners but that might be too much.)

  • Anna

Shiny new toy kind of thing (long time since the last musical of that kind)?
They went nuts for Birdman and now half of them can’t stand it (not saying that will happened with LLL).

  • Anna

    You said it.

  • Bliss

Excellent! So proud of these women! If we don’t stand up, and speak up,we will become similar to the adult characters in The Emperor’s New Clothes tale.

  • Bliss

Hi Anna! Honestly, I’m a tad disappointed with LLL as I’m a big fan of RG. I saw Hidden Figures on Sunday which was interesting. Hope to see Loving and Fences this week, before they leave our theatres.

  • Anna

I think Fences will leave the strongest impression on most people (Loving might be too “quiet” for some).
I’m glad Hidden Figures was made because those ladies deserved to have their story told.

  • MCR

Very true. Remember how critics went completely insane for The Deerhunter? A few months later, it was like it had never existed.

  • Anna

    Yup.
We’ll see what they will be thinking about these movies this time next year.

  • Bliss

    Agree!
I also agree with you about Kristen. That doesn’t lessen the fact that we love her and are rooting for her every single day!

  • Anna

    Thanks, Bliss!

  • Anna

Yes, it’s from Lizzie wrap party.

  • skeptical

Hi Bliss. I liked LLL as one of the best musicals I’ve seen, but I’m pulling for Midnight as an also beautifully filmed story that has more substance to it. Plus Midnight was better all around in acting imo, although I thought ES was excellent in LLL.

  • skeptical

Yeah, I kind of think if LLL wins it will be one of those wtf wins in subsequent years, like when Crash won or Raging Bull lost.

  • Anna
  • Toooten

‘The Deer hunter’ was not a audience kinda movie, and as you said, it was mostly the critics that loved it, and didn’t do especially well at the box office. It was first in the later years it became a cult movie.

It was released in February 1979, and in March same year, it got fierce competition from ‘The China Syndrome’ and in May, ‘Alien’ and ‘Apocalypse Now’, so it was quickly forgotten by the movie goers.

Maybe ‘La La Land’ will get big box office numbers?

  • Guest

Someone help Kristen, she’s buying strawberries! Something is wrong! 😩

  • Eme

You gotta love the girl! The way she’s wearing that headband reminds me of Richard Simmons and his exercise outfits lol! Patiently waiting for Sundance.

  • Eme

HI Bliss. Both Loving and Fences are beautifully acted films with universal messages.

  • Anna

    LLL is a BO hit.

  • Anna

    Lame.

  • Bliss

Hi skeptical! ES was indeed perfect in her role. I have to add Midnight to my must-see list of movies (I’m sorry I missed it when it was around). Lion is another one I want to see soon. I heard it was pretty good and elicited a few tears!

Hi skeptical. Do you mean Moonlight? I don’t know anything about a film called Midnight currently showing.

  • Bliss

Oops! Perhaps she meant Moonlight! I thought she was referring to Midnight Special.

  • Bliss

    Lol!

  • Eme

Yes, I think she does mean Moonlight but I could be wrong. There are so many movies out there right now it’s so hard to keep up!

  • Eme

Shhhh. Maybe if we’re really quiet the posts will go away.

  • Bliss

It is! I want to see as many as I can! It’s a welcome distraction from the days to come.

  • Eme

  • Eme

    God yes!!!!

  • nuca

her hair is blond in the ends, it’s definitely not recent

  • MCR

Hard to say which of the two are dressed worse LOL. But what you wear to the grocery store doesn’t count.

  • Eme

IKR?!!! I’m voting for the one with the crazy pants. At least Kristen’s outfit minus the hat is just hipster fare. And, yeah, grocery store is fashion free zone in my book!

  • Eme

And, if you can, see Moonlight. It is one of the most beautifully filmed and acted movies I have ever seen.

  • MCR

Yep, badly fitting tie-dyed pants definitely come out ahead. The shoes and socks are the cherry on top. But Kristen’s headband is a nice touch LOL.

  • CJ

You weren’t there. I was! So you think you know more about people that attended the dinner than I do? I was in a table with non fandom people and I talked to them to whole night. They were very impressed with Kristen. Some of them saw Certain Women the day before and they loved her in the movie. When Kristen was speaking, they were paying attention, they laughed, they smiled. I saw no one cringing or making any comment when she flipped the bird . I don’t know who you talked to (I really doubt you talked to someone who attended the dinner, but anyway), but all the fans I talked to after Kristen’s speech loved it.

YOU don’t like Kristen flipping the bird, so you think people care about it, but most people really don’t. And to say she is immature because she flipped the bird in a very friendly environment event shows you are the immature one. And kristen has always been like this. If you don’t like it, why do you follow her? She won’t change! If you get disappointed everytime Kristen is Kristen, you are the one with problems, not Kristen.

  • Eme

It is uniquely her. And really, it’s bad enough that it’s straight out of the past with it’s tricolor bands, but the way she is wearing it . . . priceless!

  • Eme

Yes, and I think I saw the orange hat while she was in NY for NYFF.

  • Anna

    CS promo time, I think.

  • Eme

I, for one, do wish she would stop flipping the bird. Only because it just gives the paps more ammunition to mock her. The most recent article I saw, to my dismay, was from New York magazine that featured all the times Kristen flipped the bird in 2016. It doesn’t help dispel the negative image people still have of her when articles like that come out. And this in a year that she had so many lovely things happen to her.

  • Eme

Oh, ok. It’s a nice picture.

  • Anna

    Key word: fans.
Again, unless you talked with everyone who was there you can’t claim to know that all of them liked the gesture. Those people weren’t teens, they know how to keep appearance and act like everything is fine keeping their opinion for themselves. For later.

Sigh. I don’t even know where to start with the second part of your post.
She wasn’t among her friends, she was WORKING. If you can’t see the difference then this convo is pointless.
“And Kristen has always been like this.” Some of the things you do when you are 18 can’t pass when you are 26. It’s called maturing. Something she needs to catch up with in some aspects of her life, IMO.
You can keep thinking she’s perfect, fine with me. But not everyone will/does. And I’m sorry I think better of her and am expecting from her to be able to learn and improve. You are the one selling her short.

  • Anna

That article just the tip on an iceberg.

  • Eme

I sincerely hope you’re wrong, Anna. Sigh.

  • Anna

Did you catch the undertone of it? That should tell you a lot. The sole fact someone got an idea to write it…………………….. And it wasn’t some low level tab. Do you know anyone else, a person who is aiming to be more than just a celebrity, who was/is the subject of articles like that one? She’s being treated as a joke.

  • Eme

Yes, I caught the tone. I can’t speak to your question about others because I don’t follow anyone else like I do Kristen. I was pretty heartsick when I saw & read the article.

  • Anna

None of her peers, actresses she’s competing with for roles/fashion contracts (because it a competition, whether she likes it or not) is being treated that way. Not one.
And that article is far from being the only or the worst one (you should read those about her dating/love life: all written to sound like positive affirmative stuff but only on the surface because the end message is everything but good; and again, I’m not talking about tabloids). All I see are people making fun of her but it’s the kind of jokes you don’t laugh at because they aren’t saying anything good about her character (if you know what I mean).
As I said the other day, it will be a decade of negative press this fall. That’s a lot of time and she’s still adding to it, intentionally or not.

  • Anna

Her hair is going from bad to worse.

  • Eme

Either I didn’t notice because, let’s face it, the headband got all my attention . . or . . . her hair just fit in with the total look. Or both, lol!

  • Anna

The lack of any ‘structure’ is just…I don’t understand what Adir is doing/thinking. If she wants to keep it short why not give her the haircut she got right before CXR promo and NYFF 2014? That one was cute and easy to maintain at the same time. This now is just a shapeless mess (and not only because Kristen isn’t taking care of it).

  • Eme

I don’t know. I can’t tell from the picture. She’s got that thing on her head and it’s pushing her hair in a weird way so who knows. Hopefully, by Sundance she and Adir will have figured it out. At least that is my hope.
Okay, I ‘m getting punchy as I’m up too late. I’ll say goodnight for now.

  • Anna

I sure hope so. But I really doubt it.

    Sweet dreams!

  • Eme

Thank you, Anna. To you also (if you’re in my part of the world – and even if you’re not!).

  • MCR

It’s just disordered, at least partly because of the headband. And who does their hair to pick up groceries?

  • Anna

It didn’t look much better in that pic from the other day posted by Adir right after he gave her another haircut.

  • Anna
  • Anna

Yup, the movies seems to be quite a fanfiction.

If she really did try to quit couple of times, where the love story fits in that scenario?

  • Anna

    4. She had a strong brogue.

Bridget’s Irish accent was so deep that at times during Lizzie Borden’s trial she was not understood. In particular, when she spoke of “keys,” it was thought she was saying “case.”

(No way Kristen will be able to pull that kind of accent off).

Hope we do get a translation. It’s good promo for PS for interview to come out now, especially for Cesar consideration. And I always like to see pics of my man.

  • Anna

It means less visibility for PS and that is a problem (that boxset was sent right before holidays so that Academy members could watch the films in their homes; not the case with PS and having in mind that it’s being screened in a small number of theaters + this extremely cold weather, it’s hard to imagine those voters will go out of their way to see it which, well, is not good obviously) but the movie is still in the race. At least that.

  • Anna

It’s good for him but will it help Kristen? Not so sure.
Of course, it’s not his job to “campaign” for her.

  • Anna

Harvey Weinstein did it again – he got Lion in the race and managed to position it as one of top contenders.

DGA (Directors Guild of America) noms were just announced.

  • Eme

I’m kinda almost resigned to the fact that any Cesar nom will be in the director/producer/best picture situation. Don’t get me wrong – I would love a BA nom for Kristen but the odds seem to be against her this year. Despite all that, I still have some hope burning inside – the *audacity of hope*, you know.

    93. Lizzie (Craig William Macneill)

While we imagine there will certainly be some announced this year, as of now, the only Kristen Stewart-starring film yet to premiere is the dark biopic Lizzie. Following the true story of a woman who committed ax-wielding murders in Massachusetts in the late 1800s, it’s got quite the hook. With Chloë Sevigny taking the lead role and Stewart playing her live-in maid, this has the makings of a daring look an little-known black mark in history. – Jordan R.

  • Anna

(I recommend going through that whole list. And while you are at it, pay attention to actresses that are working the most and on what kind of projects, it’s rather telling.)

Personal Shopper, out on 17 March [UK]

Olivier Assayas first collaborated with Kristen Stewart for 2014’s Clouds of Sils Maria, where she played an assistant to an insecure movie star. For Personal Shopper, a film he described in an interview at Cannes as a sort of companion piece to Clouds, Stewart features in an ostensibly similar role. But unlike its elegant predecessor Clouds, Assayas’s latest is horror sprinkled with fashion industry satire. Maureen, a young American in Paris, is the personal shopper and assistant to Kyra (Nora Von Waltstätten), a harsh and demanding German supermodel and designer. While running errands, Maureen develops certain habits, like trying on Kyra’s clothes and staying overnight at her flat when she leaves the city for work. Maureen is also a medium, attempting to contact her recently deceased twin Lewis in their family home in Paris – where he died from the same heart condition that Maureen suffers from. Assayas’s careful manipulation of the boundaries of realism have a disturbing effect. At the point when Maureen seems to make contact with Lewis, unexpected events occur, suggesting she has opened herself up to a dark force way beyond her control.

  • Bliss

I’ve tried to enlarge it with no success. I can’t read that small print. 🙁

  • Eme

I saw Jackie today. It won’t win BP but Natalie Portman is breathtaking in her performance of a beloved icon. I won’t be disappointed if she wins BA. And Viola Davis could have given her a run in that category imo.

  • Bliss

Oh I see you have more scans further down that look much better! I’ll give it a shot! It may take a while as I’m working on another task.

  • Anna

    TY Bliss!

You can just sum it up for us (those parts about Kristen and maybe his future plans), no need to go through the whole thing.

  • Anna

I think Viola would have won in that race.
But, this way, I think Emma S. is still ahead of everyone else.

  • Eme

Well, I can’t comment on Emma S.’s performance since I haven’t seen it. We’ll see soon enough.

  • Bliss

Okay so I only found reference to Kristen in the very beginning and at the very end!
    Beginning:
It is not paradoxical to say that all my films have a relation with the universe of the ghosts.
Fiction, by definition, is a history of ghosts. Through it, we make characters who have disappeared (died) relive. The history of cinema is peopled by ghosts. With PERSONAL SHOPPER, I wanted to push the cursor, to make it more literal. This film was a continuation of working with Kristen Stewart, whose quality and strength is to render/make the most fragile things real/truthful. During the filming of SILS MARIA, there were sentences that were dense, theoretical, abstract: I was very frightened but I remember being surprised by the way Kristen interpreted them, with spontaneity and impressive truth. It’s her who gave me the courage to go a little further.

    Last question:
Q: You personify enormously the real and the virtual, as independent entities.

A: This question has to do with control and non-control. I do not believe in control. A film must not be a grid that is applied to the world. A scenario, it’s only a piece of paper with brief descriptions, with characters whose psychology is determined only by action, by the
situations in which they find themselves. It is the actor who gives life to the character. It’s a bit like the decor I’ll choose, it will transform the mental vision that I have of the place described in the scenario. One needs to be opened to this. In sum, to the accident. In fact, I don’t ever rehearse with the actors beforehand, to avoid intellectualization. There are constantly accidents. Sometimes, I say to everyone that the plan is going to such and such a place, and, in fact, I let them continue acting in an unknown zone; This kind of moment produces the most interesting things. Since I do not know what I am basically looking for, there can be no mastery on my part. I try to improve the plan step by step, take by take, until I say to myself: “OK, that’s it.” And Kristen Stewart is really an ally in this approach; She feeds a spontaneity, a youth, a requirement, she is obsessed by the fact of being good only at the first take.

  • Eme

Thank you, Bliss, for this. He really describes Kristen as an actor the way she describes herself. And his style of directing really does compliment her approach to acting. Hope they don’t make us wait too long for the third collaboration.

  • nuca

    Thank you, that was fast:)

  • Anna

    TY Bliss!

My favorite of all these looks is 3. Liked almost all of them. Least favorite was the Cafe Society premiere look. And, they didn’t have my all time fav look – TIFF 2012, I believe.

Nervous about the hype going into Sundance for her short, but probably not even close to how she is feeling! Still waiting patiently for Sundance.

Judging by her hair, it’s very recent.
Now I’m asking, if this was someone completely unknown to you, just a random person you got to see sitting there, what would you think about her? Nothing too positive, I’m almost sure. She looks kinda lost (and not even being in public where she knows she”s can be and is recognized is enough for her to snap out of it and put a “brave” face like we all do – instinctively), to say it nicely. Hate me as much as you like but everything from her look (her hair was never messier than last few months, every.single.time we get pics of her), her clothes (it seems like she’s wearing all the same stuff for months now) to her body language and attitude is a sign of not a good place she’s in right now. What caused it? I have no idea but it doesn’t look like she’s trying to figure it out and get better.

Stella has walked men’s runways so that’s probably the reason.

  • BrendaStar

No exaggeration on your part. I have never seen Kristen look worse. Maybe she needs Ruth! Everyone has dissed Ruth, but she was constantly with Kristen during Twi years. Kristen does seem to need someone with her always. Nothing wrong with that, so Ruth is a good choice since Kristen is a client as well as a friend.

  • Anna

Yup! That’s what I thought as an option, as well.

  • Anna

Ruth is getting new clients (who work more than Kristen and thus can pay her better) plus, I think, she got engaged recently (not 100% sure so don’t hold me on that) which means that many things are coming before Kristen right now for her.
I know people don’t like to remember 2012, but in months before scandal happened, Kristen was left almost completely alone (she was traveling *a lot* all over the world, her BF had his own career to take care of, her parents were dealing with their own mess of separation and divorce, her friends weren’t traveling with her, her co-stars and other people she was doing all that promo with weren’t exactly her friends and the pressure was huge) which kinda reminds me of what we are seeing now: she’s not alone because someone is always there with her but those seem to be mostly enablers (CJ especially) who don’t give a damn about her well being in the long run and everything feels like we are, just like back then, watching a ticking bomb (only, this time, it’s much worse IMO).
As I said the other day, I’m now just waiting for the other shoe to drop.
Career (that she doesn’t have now anyway) is no more a priority because this is so much more serious and dangerous.

  • Anna

[This is going to be a really shitty year for this fandom, I can feel it. If there was time for me to be wrong, this is it!]

  • Anna

If Stella is walking this show then………………………………………
(Which, if so, bring us to CJ being there for – nothing. Kwim?)

    https://twitter.com/Korita05/status/819978223412912128

  • Anna

(Also, if she’s there for Stella, my question is this: how come she has enough time for that and none for attending NYFCC’s dinner or Palm Springs FF, which is a great place for networking, where PS had a screening few days ago? Am I being harsh? Probably. But when your career is going nowhere fast, you should at least pretend that you care.)

  • MCR

I don’t usually argue this stuff with you, but this is why I can’t entirely get on board with you.

Yes, she looks messy and sad. Messy isn’t something new for her, but I’ll allow your take on it as being messier than usual. And I’ll accept your interpretation of her manner as desperately depressed, rather than just worried or serious, although I don’t see much evidence one way or the other from a few photos. But you carry it too far.

You’re right when you say, “What caused it? I have no idea…” but you don’t stop there, but fast track right to severe personal problems that need professional intervention. Why couldn’t she be working too intensely on a new project? Or having terrible fights with her parents/girlfriend/whoever? Or freaking out over the upcoming fascist government?

As for “…it doesn’t look like she’s trying to figure it out and get better,” how does someone look who is trying, as opposed to someone who is not – that we can discern in a couple of snapshots?

  • kilkxi

You sound absolutely ridiculous psychoanalyzing her from afar and pretending you know what´s going on in her life. Its really embarassing. Remember when you left the board because you cried about how her career is over? Why even bother to change your name and come back. If 99% of your output and feelings are so negative, there are better options to voice that. You´d fit right in with the GC crowd.

  • Anna

“…to me it doesn’t look like she’s trying to figure it out and get better.” were my exact words. It means that this MO she’s in is what we are seeing for months now and that I can’t notice any change happening nor an effort on her part to make that change. Maybe she can figure it out on her own, maybe she can’t, I don’t know so I’m not saying that she *needs* “professional intervention” (those are your words). As for what is behind all of this, I can only guess (and I have a theory) but, as I said, I don’t have a definitive idea.
How someone who is trying looks like? How about seeing her for once in all these months looking fresh and rested, clean and wearing something other than those same clothes all the time, going to or from a business meeting (paps usually notice that)? Just once. Kristen was always messy but not like this, not all the time.

  • Anna

I’m glad to know your stand on this. Thank you.
Now, seeing that I bother you this much and that you are familiar with the GC crowd, why don’t you move on. You know, follow your own advice and find a better place for yourself.

  • kilkxi

Zero self awareness as expected. As a fan, a fansite seems like a more reasonable place for me. However, if you´re whining about everything she does and seeing ghosts at every turn, that puts you in the same category as those GC psychos.

  • Anna

Hm. You can think of me whatever you like. But I do recommend you to find out what other “big” and “real” fans are *actually* thinking about all of this (only for that, you’ll have to chat with them on locked sites and/or via DMs, PMs, ect. as they don’t say this stuff out in the open). That might make *your* awareness as a fan much better. Or you can keep your head in sand and think I’m the only and worst one, your choice. I don’t care either way.
This is not the only fansite, dear. So again, you are free to find a place that is more to your liking.
I’m not familiar with those current GC psychos because, as a fan, I don’t think I have any place going there and reading that shitty site (in last 3 years I *never* went there, not once). Good for you for going back to visit them and knowing what they are saying, it must be really “fun”.

  • kilkxi

I don´t visit GC, but that´s not necessary in order to know they´re delusional and making things up as they go along. But I guess assuming things about complete strangers is your thing. Yeah, I´ll keep my head in the sand about someone I have zero connection to. Thats totally a crazy thing to do.

  • BrendaStar

I mostly agree with your assessment of her personal life. Also it must be difficult losing half her friends after breaking up with Alicia while most of others have their own lives & careers. I don’t know what is going on with her career, but that might be due to her choices. She is probably sacrificing some acting opportunities in pursuit of directing opportunities. Whatever, I wish other fans could understand that everyone is entitled to an opinion. Kristen does not expect people to worship her. It does not help someone to say they look great&healthy when they don’t.

  • Anna

Or, and I *really* am sorry to say this, maybe her coming out is the reason for not getting as many of good offers as before which, if true, probably hurts a lot. She loves her job and I think it comes first in her life so if that isn’t going well……………………………… Who knows.

  • BrendaStar

I hope I don’t offend you, but Anna left GC because of the way GC kept debunking stories about Kristen that seemed to draw attention to these negative stories. The last straw for me was another story re Joan Rivers’ book that had offensive remarks about Kristen. Anna delivers lots of important news here about Kristen’s career. If she is concerned about something, it is fair that she mentions it. I do not understand why fans hate other fans. I recently was on another site. They referred to us here as a lunatic brigade and a nasty pack. That is language that belongs on GC. Worrying about Kristen is not looney or nasty. If everything is well, it will be proven, and we will all be happy.

  • Anna

(They were probably talking about me, not all of you. Like I care. LOL)

  • BrendaStar

I am sorry that you are persecuted by other fans. I think it very narrow minded the way some fans can not deal with opinions that are different from theirs.

  • Anna

It’s OK, Brenda. I’m used to it.
All I can do is say what I think and hope that none of those bad things will happen. As Kristen once said, people will take away whatever they want from it. That’s on them.

  • BrendaStar

You may not got go to GC, but it is not such a stretch to have assumed you do since you mentioned the site. Also I have been on sites where fans report on what is said on GC. Nothing wrong with that. I used to visit occasionally although not to report on them.

  • BrendaStar

I might be crazy, but I was happy when you wrote Kristen may be in Milan for Stella. Career is important but so too is her personal life. Also Kristen may also have a work related reason which might explain CJ. I hope Kristen and Stella can last. I am old fashioned and like for people to have stability in their lives.

  • Anna

I think mutual support is very important. In all relationships. Period.
But, in this case, it’s not that support what bothers me (I did say my opinion was harsh). It’s just that seeing her looking like that (thin, tired, lost) and still traveling all the way to Milan for Stella but not finding a way to show up at *some* of these industry events in her own city/state (there are so many of them now and, as everyone keeps convincing me, she did have a great year so no one will question why she is there) made me kinda mad. Her direct competition is about to have a great year but we aren’t getting anything from her, no new announcements, nothing. IDK.
Almost all people she’s surrounded with most of the time lately don’t have their lives/careers figured out (and few can benefit from hers a lot which might turn them into “say yes to everything she says/does” persons) so I don’t think they can represent that stability she needs.
(CJ is Stella’s friend, too. And he seems to like free traveling even when he doesn’t have to work as Kristen’s PA. But maybe they are there for more things than that one show. We’ll find out soon enough.)

Top 20 Films Of 2016: ADAM PATTERSON

    6. Certain Women – A gorgeous film portraying the lives of three women living in a sleepy Montana town. Like Reichardt’s previous films, the dialogue is sparse, but the emotion is off the charts.

    http://viralkick.in/news/Top-20-Films-of-2016:-ADAM-PATTERSON

  • Eme

Hi everyone. Saw Hidden Figures today. Such an uplifting movie! I am so happy that these three women’s contribution to the NASA space race to put an American in space and the moon was recognized and honored in this film. All three actresses were wonderful, as well as, the other cast members. I hope it gets an Oscar nomination for BP because it definitely deserves it.

  • Anna

I think it will get that BP nom. You don’t mess with these women 😉

  • Eme

That was one of the best moments in the film! Heck, the whole movie was best moments! And, people, watch out for Janelle Monae who played in two great films in 2016 and brought it to both of them!

  • Anna

Yup. And she has an attitude of a real star which will help her a lot.

  • Eme

I love that she wears black and white to everything in honor of her parents who were *in service* and who wore uniforms in those colors. Never forget your history!

  • Anna

She’s lucky she has such a strong presence (because some of those outfits she wore recently wouldn’t look half as good on others).

  • Eme

Hope you brought it to this one.

  • Eme

Yeah, agree. She is beautiful and carries herself well so she wears the clothes not vice versa.

  • Anna

You know, I’m seeing how Lizzie is becoming something like an inside joke for some people. Meaning, there’s so much things wrong with it that, compared to other films Kristen did recently that had everything going in their favor on paper but didn’t deliver in reality, it must work in the end. If she can’t score with promising projects maybe she will with this one that looks like a dud. (Yes, people are that desperate for good news.)

  • Eme

Well, you just never know. It just might be a sleeper hit. I mean, anything can happen, js.

  • Anna

    In theory, yes.

  • Eme

Lol! Are you forgetting what just happened in the US?!!! Anything can happen – and sometimes does!

  • Anna

When that something is a bad thing.
But when you are hoping for something good…………………………………

  • Anna
  • Eme

I still think anything can happen, good or bad. You know me, I’m hanging on to my president’s words – “audacity of Hope”. Always.

  • Anna

Nothing against that. I admire that attitude.
I just prefer being ready for the impact so it doesn’t shock me if it happens.

  • Eme

Somebody had way too much time on their hands. Hey, I know, let’s figure out a way to make a simple thing more complicated and awkward. Please. SMH.

  • Anna

    Right? Sigh.

  • Eme

Oh, trust that the hope I have is always tempered by real facts.

  • NONA

sundance only a few days away, first film as a writer/director. this means alot to kristen, so:
relax and enjoy her getting there

  • Eme

I know. I’m waiting patiently for Sundance and her short. Still some anxiety re the reception of it and all.

  • Anna

No way anyone can be that relaxed. Even in a peach perfect situation, which we are very far away from currently, we would be all stressed out waiting for those first reactions. Fan is short for fanatic, after all. LOL

  • NONA

she has said she loves it there, i’m just glad for her to get to take her short to a place that fits her persona very well. indie achiever that she is.

  • NONA

people will see what they want to see in her actions & reactions. on the film, no one has exactly the same tastes, so it’s often healthy to wait & see it as individuals!

  • Eme

The anxiety I was talking about is mine not Kristen’s. I’m very proud that her short is premiering at Sundance and can’t wait to see her and what the reception will be from critics and public at large. I’m not quite sure I understand your replies to me?

  • BrendaStar

I never considered that because it seemed ridiculous that producers and directors even studios for the most part would discriminate against a woman because she dated other women. Also Kristen is attractive to both men and women so she is believable in films like CS or CW. However, I heard a couple of people talking on tv recntly about how badly people treat other people in Hollywood so I can maybe believe it.

  • BrendaStar

Actually the word “they” was used. I used it too in referring to the other site when actually only one person called us the 2 names I mentioned.

  • BrendaStar

I am afraid to see Silence because of the torture scenes. If you see it, please let us know if it is truly disturbing.

  • Kstew_fan212

You’re no Kristen Stewart fan — you just pretends to be. You’re already closed one Kristen fan site down, and now you’re trying to close this site down as well.

You’re a fanatic Kristen hater and you have your few little minions to follow you, they’re brainwashed by you. They’re no better than the fanatic idiots that follow H.K.N on her imbecile blog.

  • Anna

Proof that Franco is not a part of JT LeRoy project anymore (as an actor; if he’s out as a producer as well that that movie probably won’t get made at all but we’ll see).

    https://twitter.com/modyzaidan/status/820238908160098305

  • Anna

Oh wish I had that power, honey. But, guess what, that site is now in hands of not one but 3, I repeat 3, big, huge fans and yet they are yet to update it once. You probably know them so go and be useful and complain to them. I’m the wrong address because, as you can see, this place is updated on a daily basis (which is a reason why you are here, isn’t it?).
Oh, look at that. Yesterday a GC crowd member and today a HKN connoisseur. My oh my, aren’t you a nice group of fans. Not!. SMH.
As for all the insults to other people on this board…they can speak for themselves. All I’m going to say to you about that is – thank you. For showing your real self (but I’m sorry there’s nothing pretty about you to be seen).
I’m chasing you away? And you telling me to shut up and leave isn’t doing exactly that? Talk about not practicing what you preach. SMH
You people need to think of new stuff because you are repeating yourselves. A lot. And that is getting so freaking old.
But I’ll do you a favor and I’m going to say this one more time. You don’t like what I have to say? Fine. Here’s what you can do about it: skip/ignore my posts, use collapse button or change a fansite. See, it’s rather simple. (Or you could grow up but that takes time which I don’t think we have in this situation.)
    Have a great day.

  • Anna

OK, he’s still in as a producer.

    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/C2InG7NWEAELuKO.jpg

  • BrendaStar

What you wrote makes sense to me. Sometimes everything looking good yields poor results like BLLHW or Silence therefore the opposite must also be true. Right now Kristen’s film fans in the USA have only PS and Lizzie so maybe we will show more enthusiasm. Also there must be something there for Chloe to be so passionate about it.

  • BrendaStar

Perhaps CJ is like family though.

  • Anna

It’s about money and perception people have (Kristen is not attractive any more to too many people as she’s carrying herself more as a boy than as a girl lately and her real life sexuality is becoming part of why they can’t see her in certain roles – see: Equals reviews on letterboxd).
I wanted to answer you with one long more detailed post but I’m kinda in a hurry now so I’ll do that when I get more time.
For now just think about this: how many openly not straight actresses who work on good movies do you know? Yes, it’s much easier with TV but I’m talking about films as that is where Kristen belongs. I can’t come up with any name. Ellen Page? No new projects listed so her career is pretty much dead. Maria Bello? Same (but she’s trying to find her place on TV). Evan R. W.? Thanks to TV she’s still in the business but you’ll hardly see her in movies. There are few more names but those ladies also rely on their celebrity persona to keep their name out there which isn’t what Kristen wants (at least, she didn’t in the past). So, you see, Kristen has *everything* working against her.
MCR had a great post the other day about how we often forget Kristen’s talent which will win in the end. I think it’s the opposite: it’s because we aren’t forgetting it that we want and expect more than what we are getting now from her. That aside, there’s this one rule in Hollywood (I didn’t make it up): 10% of success (success = long career recognized and respected and validated by the public and/or industry) is talent + hard work and 90% is everything else (meaning, how well you can play the game). Kristen has those 10% only.

  • Anna

Hmm. Maybe, it’s not like I know him.
But would a family member post pap pic (!) of her on his instagram only to show that he’s working with her? That was a shitty move, IMO. And sadly it wasn’t the only one.

  • Anna

Lets hope you are right 🙂

  • BrendaStar

Anna has been bringing tweets and articles about Kristen’s career to fans for years! She doesn’t gossip about other fans when things are slow. She doesn’t gossip about Rob and his girlfriend wen things are slow. LOL. She doesn’t gossip sabut Ashley Greene and so on… LOL.

  • Anna

    OT

Instead of getting better, things are getting worse for actresses.

    Oh! I didn’t know this!
Moonlight and CXR have the same DP. No wonder CXR looked that good (better than a $1M film).

    https://twitter.com/mistersattler/status/820260712517804033

  • BrendaStar

Counting spoken words is not a good measure of Gyn’s impact in Rogue One IMO. I strongly disagree. Felicity Jones as Gyn was the most impactful character out of all the rebels. Actually one of the Empire’s villains was very impactful in a smaller role. I liked Cassian btw, but he had more dialogue because of his role. He was a member of the organized rebellion. Gyn was a one girl force that sort of outsmarted both the empire and the established rebellion.

  • Anna

It might “work” in that one movie but what about other films?
You know how, in the past, women were treated like “you just go and do your woman’s job, look pretty, don’t think and don’t talk”? Well, somehow we didn’t move much pass that in those top grossing films. Less than a 1/3 of speaking time? That’s bad no matter how those characters are well skilled and smart.

  • BrendaStar

OT: JT Leroy as a project reminds me of The Big Shoe. It was Kristen’s only project for awhile but then Kristen got CXR, CoSM and I think Still Alice. Lots of fans didn’t like TBS or Kristen’s role in it. Then the lead actor, Jim Sturgess, suddenly left to do Geostorm, a Gerard Butler film in 2014. The Big Shoe went away. Geostorm is due to be released in 10/2017. Warner Bros spent about 15 million on reshoots and brought in a new director.

  • Anna

Oh Brenda, how I hope this is the same situation as that one 4 years ago because it means good stuff is coming.
(BTW, I was OK-ish with TBS and after Juliette B. joined in I was so happy because we were supposed to get CoSM reunion but it didn’t happen. Oh well.)

  • BrendaStar

Chaeyoung looks very pretty so it was a good decision.

  • BrendaStar

I didn’t know he posted that pic. That was poor judgment on his part.

  • Anna
  • NONA

hello, which is that pap pic that he posted?

  • Eme

    I loved, loved this look!

  • Eme

    Which photo was this, Anna?

  • BrendaStar

Thanks. Sadly what you write makes sense. Still I do not think it is hopeless, and we don’t know what Kristen wants most. It will certainly take focus away from acting to be involved in directing. The silver lining for us fans is that it may increase her longevity in Hollywood to be able to direct as well as act in films.

  • Eme

Hmm, “brainwahed”. And a “minion” too. Can you think of any other names you want to call those of us who post regularly on this board? And, for the record, you coming here and calling people names and bullying Anna – oh, wait for it – isn’t that what those people at GC do?

  • Anna

Female directors have it harder than actresses, though.
All we can do is wish her luck.

    YES!!!!

    Yes, well said.

Yes, I know you do and I hope our fun convos make her smile when she comes to the board just to read the posts.

(That’s a VS ring specially made for its models.)

  • Eme

Oh, I left the board for awhile and missed you, Stephanie! Oh, okay, just gang up on me both of you! And, any suggestions on how to get that number because truly I would faint if I was anywhere near Mr. A.!

  • Anna

Buy him another sweater like *the* one he already has?

  • Anna

    OT

Dakota is trying TV now. Good move, IMO, especially if the role is well written and the team behind the show knows its job.

  • Stephanie

Haha, that is a mission impossible that needs Tom Cruise to help. 😊

  • Anna
  • Eme

Hopefully that’s a bodyguard next to her because he is awfully close if he isn’t. I get nervous about safety for any public figure when it comes to groups of people.

  • Anna

    True. Same.

(But, she should have expected that and act accordingly. She’s not new at this. Yeah, I know I’m being harsh. But, look at how careless she’s been lately about *everything*.)

  • Anna

[And now everyone is bitching in their DMs. Same old.]

  • Eme

I agree that you’re being a bit harsh. I understand that fans are disappointed in not seeing her front row and/or posing for professional pics at the event, but she was there to support her girlfriend’s work and you try not to upstage your partner in that scenario.

  • Anna

No, that’s not that! At all!
I’m glad she’s not sitting in the front row. First, she can’t because of Chanel and she better take care of that contract the best she can because the *only* mainstream thing she has going on (attending Milan FW is risk in itself). Second, look at her. I mean, she looks like she didn’t wash her face for days, her hair is getting worse (and I though it wasn’t possible), her clothes are…I simply don’t have words any more. And on top of that, she has a cigarette behind her ear as an accessory. She’s supposed to be an A-list Hollywood actress at a fashion week (being backstage only means you don’t have to be all dolled up, not that you shouldn’t look nice) but she looks like a construction worker coming to a construction site (no offense to those workers).

  • Eme

I agree that she could have taken more of an effort with herself and I absolutely agree about the cigarette. I actually would have preferred her back in US preparing for Sundance and the interviews that will happen regarding her short. I honestly don’t know how I feel about any of this or what, if anything, it means to Kristen.

  • Eme

Are they bitching at each other or about Kristen, or both?

  • Anna
  • Eme

That would be a no to that. LOL!

  • Anna

    Exactly.
It’s like she doesn’t care any more about anything career related (remember that red flag I mentioned days ago?). This is scary. I don’t know what needs to happen for her to snap out of it. You know more than me as you have more experience with stuff like this, but, Eme, she doesn’t look good at all and it goes beyond her face, hair, clothes.

  • Eme

I have no idea what that second pic is! And, who cares about CJ!

  • Anna

About Kristen. It takes a lot for them to say how displeased with her they are publicly, which they didtoday, so you can only imagine how bad things are in DMs.
    Plus, that ring drama.

  • Anna

Eyes on the goal: the number. Whatever it takes. ;P

  • Anna

He was walking in front of her, trying to get those people away, I guess.
There are professional BGs for that, Kristen. SMH

  • Eme

You see, I am reluctant to go there because I just don’t have the facts. Yes, I am seeing pictures and, if I were in my office facing this young woman and evaluating her, I’d have some ideas. I understand what you are saying and why you feel that way. And, yes, these recent pictures have me worried.

  • Anna

    Got it.
This damn horrible gut feeling I have…………………………………………….

  • Eme

She isn’t traveling with a bodyguard? WTF?!!!!!!

  • Eme

    I hear you.

  • Eme

    There are limits, js.

  • Eme

    Sigh.

  • Anna

She tends to do that when it’s not work related.
Remember that LAX chaos from two years ago (when Alicia and her came back from Hawaii, after those infamous beach pics)? I guess she didn’t learn anything from that.

  • Anna

    Better sweater than the hat.

  • Anna

(It slowly becomes nerve wracking to log in and check the news because I don’t know what I’m going to see/read. How the hell did we end up here?)

  • Eme

Okay, you win with that one. And I find it very bizarre having this fun convo with you & Stephanie while further up we’re discussing our worries regarding Kristen in Milan. Two polar opposite convos at the same time!

  • Anna

I like to think this convo is a proof that we are sane (even though the subject is odd, LOL).
Because that other discussion…we are walking a very thin line with that one.

  • Eme

God do I remember that! I could have killed me a pap that day if any had been around me. She did have BGs start meeting her at the airport after that (after Kiley’s wedding, remember?). Maybe she just thinks she’s not that big anymore and can just be like any normal person! Idk.

  • Eme

That is the question of the day!!

  • Anna

Yes, I remember that wedding trip.
She just can’t risk it. Especially now when she’s dating another (semi) famous person. She needs to be smarter than this (anonymity is lost for her forever).

  • Anna

IDK if this person (a model manager) is sick so that’s why the need to cough or Kristen was that rude that she was smoking while talking to her (if later, then wtf is wrong with you, Kristen).

Her Twitter is full of her tweeting about being sick but of course let’s twist this and make it about Kristen.

  • BrendaStar

Taylor is a good friend to Kristen and vice versa:-)

  • BrendaStar

Very true! It is just that Gyn was a really good female role IMO that I got all excited. Clayton Davis had Rogue One in his top 15 films if I remember correctly. I thought it was a good film.

  • BrendaStar

Me too! Hope we get another trio of really good films. I defended TBS because I refused to believe Kristen’s role as a sex worker was a prostitute. Then I got sick of all the problems with the producer. However, I was looking forward to Stewart/Binoche reunion.

  • BrendaStar

David Gordon Greene was a producer so he definitely knew how to get good people. CXR remains a favorite of mine.

  • BrendaStar

Cute pic & Kristen looks amused.

  • BrendaStar

That ring is something Kristen would love. She loves to have jewelry from people she likes. Look how she wears that necklace from Jillian Dempsey.

  • BrendaStar

I just saw the writeup on The Alienist. Hopefully Kristen will make some guest appearances. I love love detective stories. I hope I get the program on my limited cable lineup. If not, I will buy the dvd.

  • Anna
  • Anna

(One more far more better for her place Kristen could have been at now.)

  • Anna

That’s the only pic that looks decent.

  • Anna

    Yeah, the project sounds interesting.
And I’m not against Kristen being in a limited series, HBO for example (one of those will help Shailene W. to get her career back on track this year, for example).

  • Anna

Good point. And she does like rings.

  • Anna

She commented on his instagram yesterday so yeah, they are good.

  • Anna

DGG’s and Payman’s involvement is what made me confident that CXR would be OK (unlike Lizzie, for example).
And yes, CXR holds a very special place for me too.

  • Anna

As far as blockbusters go, it was OK.

  • Anna

My issue with TBS was timing. It was supposed to be the first film for Kristen after Twilight ended and, more importantly, the scandal. So playing that kind of a character in that context would have been very risky and tricky (you know what public thought about her back then). Other than that, TBS was fine; nothing special but not too bad either.
I hope will get that reunion someday, though.

  • Eme

I haven’the seen the write up but I did read a 2 book series by Caleb Carr published in 1994. The first book was titled The Alienist. It is a mystery taking place in the early 1900’s and involves a psychiatrist who at the time were called alienists. Wonder if the show is based on the book series.

  • Anna

    That’s the one.

  • Eme

I’m on board then! The books were great reading and, of course, my interest was in the psychology factor! If my memory serves me correctly, there is a young woman suffering from some forms of mental distress in the story and is connected to the mystery. I’d always thought the books would make a great movie. We’ll, good for Dakota. Hope they get a great script for it!

  • Anna

It’s going to be a series so I think the story will have enough time to develop and use all the details from the book. As long as they get a good screenwriter…………………….

  • Eme

    IKR?!!

  • Anna

    We should know. Sadly.

  • Eme

    Yup.

  • MCR

I can’t quite get worried about it. It seems to me like more of the same: like when we constantly heard that she never smiled but always looked miserable, and there were photos to back that up – yet it meant nothing. She’s always dressed like a wee truck driver when off-duty; people have always said her hair is constantly a mess; and she’s always lost and re-gained weight regularly. I also haven’t read anything to suggest she’s behaving weirdly, at least by my standards of weird. I’m not really sure what Anna is suspecting, exactly, but I see very little to indicate disaster – but then, I don’t follow Kristen much apart from this site, so maybe I’m missing something.

  • Anna
  • Anna

I so hope you are right, MCR, I honestly do.
Time will tell (as I don’t think this is her normal self).

  • MCR

    Sorry, what ring drama?

  • MCR

    Fair enough.

  • Eme

Yeah, I don’t have any info because I don’t have Twitter or any of the other social media tools out there. And I would never venture an opinion about someone’s mental state by pictures or social media. I just want news on upcoming projects. I guess that’s what worries me the most because I want to see her in theater.

  • Anna

That new VS ring she has on in one of the fan pics. It’s clearly Stella’s gift or something which is enough for some people to make drama.

  • Eme

    So wonderful for Lily!

  • MCR

Her girlfriend may have given her a piece of jewelry? Well…pfft!

  • Anna

Absolutely agree with you on that one!

  • Eme

    Seriously! Smh.

  • Guest

I really think it’s most likely that Stella just had to take it off for the show.

  • Anna

Could be! To me it’s just a ring like any other until proven otherwise.

Wonder if Kristen is still in Italy or on her way home. Sundance is only 4 days away and she’s going to be so tired while promoting Come Swim (how does promo for a short film looks like anyway?). IDK, she should be presenting herself in the best light (both, looking and sounding good) as this is a big step for her (well, it is supposed to be) but I don’t have impression she sees it that way (as a great opportunity to shine and show people how good she can be in something else other than acting). Anyway, her decisions, her career, her life, her consequences.

  • Anna

Pics are new. Wearing that headband is her newest habit (she also had it with her yesterday). I don’t know about *that* hat but I’m all for beanies and I hope they’ll come back.

  • Anna
  • Anna
  • Eme

    Beanies for the win!

  • Eme

It’s a tie for me – they both don’t do much for her. Lol.

  • Eme

But you gotta hand it to her – she has a very unique style and owns it with no apologies!

  • Anna
  • Anna

Having your own style is great (I prefer people who have it) but looking clean is a must no matter what you are wearing.

  • Anna

She needs a better haircut first, tbh.

  • MCR

Oh, I definitely agree with that. I admire her for it.

  • MCR

😐 I see no indication that she’s dirty.

  • MCR

I get the impression she tends to push herself pretty hard.

  • Anna

Her hair aside (because it obviously isn’t clean), she probably isn’t dirty. But sometimes her clothes don’t help (those ripped stained boy jeans, for example). It’s just impression she leaves.

  • Anna

    Exactly.
And it doesn’t work most of the time (it would be hard for anyone, not only her, to pull off things like this and be fine).

  • Eme

She has said she is impulsive and goes with her gut feelings so here she goes. Would I like her to be a little more prepared? Yes. But not gonna happen. She just isn’t that girl. And I agree with MCR. She lives to push herself hard .

  • BrendaStar

Thanks, Eme, for the info which is amazing to me. I will look up the books. I never knew that pschiatrists were called alienists at one time, and I wondered about that title.

Same story. Just a different way of saying she plays herself. We all have neurosis of one type or another – it’s called being human. But the author thought he was being creative with his/her bias – NOT.

  • Anna

    Exactly.
Sadly, characters she picks to play do help that narrative, whether we like it or not. She proved she can be excellent, awards worthy in certain roles but her range is still not tested and people see it (those who don’t like her will say she can only play those and nothing else while others are on the wait and see train; and I’m not talking solely about regular people – quite a few critics obviously agree).
It is what it is. She’s the only one who can change that perception.

  • Anna
  • Eme

When I reflect on the characters she has played post-Twilight, they aren’t the angst-ridden type of girl (aka Bella). Vonnie in CS was independently minded and, in the end, knew which path was right for her life goals; even in CoSM, her character was frustrated but vocal in her frustrations with Juliette’s character. The critics who still question her abilities are lazy and just go with what has been put out there about her acting in the past; I even question whether they truly evaluate her acting, which requires them to have some unbiased, independent, critical thinking skills (which they should have anyways whether they are writing about Kristen or another actor). That being said, I would like her to tackle a role that requires her to be *loud* – an evil persona with a *take no prisoners* attitude. She can play it – that Chanel short, the Rolling Stones video and the NYT short all show us she can play those roles. But whether she wants to do those roles (and I think she does but the role just hasn’t materialized yet – and let’s put aside the reality that roles for actresses in Hollywood are limited) remains to be seen. I’m still on the hope train. Jmo.

  • Anna

Agree, not many people is ready to think with their own head. And all of the things that make Kristen who she is were and are being twisted and interpreted in a negative way even though she’s not the only actor who always brings certain part of her real personality in every role she plays (even some of the biggest actors of hour time have those tell signs; maybe it’s just me but I can always see tiny part of Meryl in every role she plays because of certain small gestures that are just her). But, that kind of thinking and negative bias is Kristen’s reality and she needs to find a way to fight it. Because majority of people won’t change their mind otherwise nor admit they were wrong.
The problem is, even when you look at Vonnie you can see, in a few moments, Kristen’s mannerisms (pay attention to her hands, for example). For better or worse, she’s a very modern person with certain edginess and kinda punk attitude/energy and that tends to show even while she’s acting. Which is fine because she can’t change her very essence. But, gestures – those she can and should control. Not everyone shows feelings in the same way, we don’t look the same when we are happy or scared or nervous or whatever.; we don’t carry ourselves the same. But Kristen will play, for example, confused Vonnie (girl from 1930s) in the same or very similar way she plays confused Lydia (girl fully immersed in 2000s). And people have noticed that. It’s something she could try to change or control as much as she can.
I agree that her characters aren’t the same but she’s yet to transform herself (physically and energy wise, as much as possible) in the way it will be obvious to regular viewers. Maybe that will come with age. Look what Cate B. is able to pull off playing those 13 characters in one film (extreme example, yes, but it illustrates what one can do; and it’s not about her hair and makeup, although going through that also counts).
Maybe I’m asking too much from her as she *is* good or excellent in the roles she’s been choosing but, to be fair, I do understand *some* of those arguments coming from the “other” side.
Agree about those characters you want to see her in. That’s pretty much my list, as well. But she must fight for those different type of roles, they won’t come to her (she’s not in that position in the industry anymore).

    20. Come Swim (Kristen Stewart)

With her pair of career-best performances under the direction of Olivier Assayas, as well as working with Kelly Reichardt, Woody Allen, Ang Lee, David Fincher, David Gordon Green, Walter Salles, and more, Kristen Stewart has had no shortage of considerable filmmaking talent to learn from. She’s now helmed her first short, Come Swim, which utilizes a both impressionistic and realistic style to capture a man’s day. Set to premiere in the shorts program at this year’s festival, followed by a release by Refinery29, we can’t wait to see the results.

And finally someone asked her about how was it working with De Niro.

    Google translation:

    The surrealism of glory

The actress Kristen Stewart reveals what she thinks of ghosts about what she is afraid of and why she does not need a personal shopper, even if she plays one in her new film.

“Personal Shopper” is about surrealism of fame. They play a young woman who does things that are normal for ordinary people: clothing shopping, cleaning, buying gifts. How many of these arrangements do you have to meet in your own life?

The figure of the Maureen is very ambivalent to the fashion industry and the glittering world, sometimes with desire, sometimes with self-hatred. Yes, now I am on the other side. I know that you can not even go shopping. Technically it may be possible, but logistically it is an impossibility. Or the trouble is simply not worth it. (Laughs briefly) Maureen, on the other hand, is full of movement, she is so alert and nimble that I feel compared to her, as if I had no legs.

What is your relationship to smartphones? Is it as for Maureen in the film, the dominant means of communication of your everyday life?

Smartphones are a constant source of distraction. I also plead guilty to let myself be distracted too often. It is strange how intensively one deals with text messages: one interprets a deeper meaning in the fact that three points were used instead of one, or that an extra space was inserted between words.

The smartphone is in “Personal Shopper” something like your co-star. They play almost alone. How did you get to generate so much voltage just with SMS messages as opposed?

Whenever an SMS was shown big, it should feel as if you saw a close-up of my face. The tension that is going through my body at that moment should become visible. Every letter, every spelling error, every punctuation mark should speak volumes. It is fascinating, each of us has a different way of writing text messages. This is an individual language code, a new image of your thinking.

Have you ever tried “Digital Detox” and the smartphone deliberately avoided?

I’m not addicted, so it does not need a withdrawal. As soon as I realize that I’m accessing the smartphone for no reason at all, I’m looking for something more meaningful to pass the time. I only run a private Instagram account, which keeps me in touch with the loved ones, with whom I do not speak regularly. Otherwise, social media does not take place with me.

This is your second movie with Olivier Assayas. Is he a director who is different from filmmaking than his colleagues in Hollywood?

We connect friendship and closeness. I have the feeling that he actually understands me – I do not have to explain. Our trust makes it possible for us to tackle difficult issues. We can be sure that everyone will catch the other with a safety net if you fall too hard. Besides, he makes such a fire under my ass, he spurs me on like no one before. Olivier is a catalyst for me, which initiates intense thought processes, which I should contribute to the design of a role. This gives me the feeling of being creatively involved and not just fulfilling the ideas of another.

    Her character, Maureen ….

… is completely on its own. She is lonely, can not talk to anyone. This is because she has lost her twin brother and is only “half a man”, in the truest sense of the word. The mobile phone gives her the feeling of being alive and feeling emotions. This raises a frightening light on how interpersonal communication works today and how our relationship to technology is.

What do you think of unnatural phenomena, connections to the beyond, or beyond our directly experienceable world?

I am in the agnostic: I do not know if there are such forces, but I do not doubt it either. I myself sometimes feel energies and have the feeling that something drives me, which I can only comprehend rationally, which moves beyond the mind.

What is your conclusion from the assumption that there may be more between heaven and earth than we human beings dream of us?

The assumption triggers an interesting process of thinking for me each time, but I have to escape after a maximum of five minutes, so it is so scary. This makes this film so frightening. It is a ghost story – but the questions that are raised are fundamental: “Do I just imagine things around me? Is the ‘reality’ only from different perceptions, or are we actually experiencing them together? “One can not deal with such questions without a physical one shaking with fear sometimes.

    What makes you afraid?

The thought that we will never know exactly who and where we are. The moments when Maureen staggers and she can no longer be sure of things around her, I find disturbing and unpleasant. I know such anxiety from my own experience. And I am very happy when I come out.

How do you experience these anxiety states, how do you get rid of it?

I am physically completely crammed with fear. The only way to counteract it is when I go jogging or something else that brings me out of such thoughts. Because once again: you will never get the answers to these “big” questions anyway. You have to make your peace with the fact that you will never know exactly how it all actually behaves. Nevertheless, I am firmly convinced that there is something invisible that binds us all together and keeps us from feeling lonely.

Do you have the feeling that you have arrived at the age of 26?

Yes, I think I have found my inner peace. Peace, however, should not be confused with satisfaction – that is not what I am striving for. I find it good to feel a little uncomfortable and to question things. I like to get rid of unknown, uncomfortable things and like to explore new territories. This is not peaceful – but give me inner peace.

In a scene in “Personal Shopper” you are seen naked. Did you mind that?

I am always ready for all the crimes. Here I play a person in a massive identity crisis. I wanted to go as far as I could in my presentation – to act as completely as I possibly can, acting as naked as I can. The coolest thing you can experience as an actress is not just delivering a performance but being totally shocked by your own game and allowing the director to catch that. You can only get it if you are completely exposed. For me it is the greatest thing if something shows itself, of which I myself did not know that it is in me.

In Cannes, the film polarized, among the applause also mixed boo calls.

I have a soft spot for all the festivals where films are what they are really about. Cannes takes a very special place: here you are exclusively to deal with film art. So it does not feel like I’m here to sell anything. But for the sake of love for films.

Selling yourself has become part of your profession. Do you have a personal shopper at your side?

I have a stylist who has been advising me since I was very young. But she does not go shopping for me, no.

They give us an insight into an unknown world. Is a Chanel boutique for a personal shopper nothing but a kind of luxury supermarket for haute couture?

Who actually buys in Chanel’s Showrooms is ultra-rich or Personal Shoppers. Only these groups can afford the exquisite fashion art of Chanel Couture. Basically, it is an investment in an art form, just as if you put your money in a painting.

You see yourself as an artist. Is not it a dilemma for you to be a sort of changing advertising column for a couture house, whether in advertisements or by wearing the brand on public occasions?

I never feel used by them in an unpleasant way. This is because Chanel stands out in the fashion world among all competitors. For it is still an independent, independent company – the last luxury brand that does not belong to a group. And you feel that. It is noticeable in its approach to aesthetics. This art actually means something to you. One has to compare the Chanel associates with people who are tears with a sunset when they are moved, while others do not appreciate it.

How is it to play someone whose existence is not relevant to you?

I know this job inside and out, even if I do not need a personal shopper. Everything I wear on big presses or the red carpet is lent. That’s why I do not need anyone to choose clothes for me. I see this as an interaction with this art form, but it is only in the context of a film.

Is designer clothing for you a kind of protective armor, a uniform for PR occasions?

For me, when she does her job well, she’s the exact opposite: she gives me the feeling that I do not have to hide. I like this. I do not find it superficial. I feel in these clothes as if I were to show my true self. I can feel like myself in the best form.

Could it tempt you to expand the radius of your art to direct?

I actually shot my own short film last summer. This is almost my personal attempt to replace a film study … An experimental film, it will look like a student film. I wrote the screenplay myself and was very attached to the words. I know what they mean to me and what they do with other people. I hope this is not lost in the implementation. The working title is “Subjective Change”. Maybe I call it but also simply “water”.

Not surprised that it is great with such a stellar cast.

Great write-up! One of the best descriptions of each character I’ve read. Well done Violet Lucca.

(It looks like Kristen is on her way home.)

    Yay!

From the time she was filming Lizzie.
Remember this cute dog? I think costume designer for the movie is the owner and she opened this instagram account for her dog..

She’s gonna get home, switch suitcases (hopefully !!!) and probably be on her way to Utah tomorrow. No time to rest at all.
We’ll see how all of this will end.

  • Eme

Since I don’t know LA at all this was a fun read. Love this video! Agree about their comment re cigarette in dance sequence (or any scene, tbh.).

  • Eme

I adore this dog! The *chick* isn’t too bad either! 😉

  • Anna
  • Eme

She’ll sleep on the planes hopefully (vaguely remember her saying in an interview that she can sleep anywhere – might be I imagined it, though).

  • Anna

The only way you know Kristen Stewart will notice you for sure and maybe even approach you is having a cute dog with you. LOL

  • Eme

And I just saw his name is Clyde!! Cuteness overload, people!!

  • Anna

Hmm. I think she said she can’t sleep on planes.
And one nigh of sleep won’t help her much, sadly.

  • Anna

Yeah, I know. But it goes with the attitude, rock&roll and all that.

  • Eme

    I know, I know. But, still . . . .

  • Anna

    Agree……………………………….

  • Eme

Hey everyone! Sundance coming at us soon! Hoping all goes well for Kristen. Going to see Silence in about 30 minutes so I’ll be back later to report on it and check out the updates. Have a good, safe day eveyone. Bbl.
Thanks to Anna & Guest for the posts below.

  • Anna

Lets hope that forecast is right then.

  • MCR

We need a new coolness fetish item to replace cigarettes.

  • Eme

OT. So, just got back from watching Silence. Initial thoughts: Not a film for the faint of heart. The torture scenes are very difficult but are integral to the storyline. The acting was very, very good from all parties. I am quite impressed with both Adam Driver and Andrew Garfield. I could see Andrew G. receiving an Oscar nom if the stars align themselves in his favor. I don’t think Silence will win BP but I do think it will get an Oscar nod. And Martin S. gets an A++++ for having all Japanese roles played by Asians (mostly Japanese but there may have been other Asians represented in the cast – although, from what I could see in the credits all were Japanese names and all the major roles were Japanese actors).
It’s a very deep film that explores one’s faith at all levels. I’m still trying to decide what I really think of the film. I can say that it is both beautifully shot and wonderfully acted.

  • Eme

    Totally agree.

  • Anna

I think Andrew will be nominated but not for Silence. Mel’s film is his Oscar nom ticket and that movie will also, most likely, get a BP nom. Silence probably won’t. Even Best Director nom for Martin is up in the air at this point. Maybe some tech nominations.

  • BrendaStar

Thanks, Eme, for the review. I really appreciate it. Silence sounds so interesting, but the torture scenes probably will keep me away.

  • skeptical

Thanks for the review Eme. Hoping to see it this w/e. Saw Fences this past w/e and was blown away by the acting. Wish Viola was competing in BA. I thought Emma was really good in LLL but think Viola was on another level.

  • Eme

I also wish Viola were competing for BA. Although I have not seen LLL, I think she would have had an excellent chance of winning it. But she’ll win BSA. I’ll be interested to see what you think of Silence.
You ‘re welcome re my review.

  • Eme

You’re welcome. Those kind of scenes are always so difficult to watch. I actually thought about you a few times during the movie.

  • Eme

I guess I did imagine her saying it lol! Well, I really do hope she gets some rest before Sundance because the short is important to her.

Sundance Come Swim premiere schedule for tomorrow.

  • Anna
  • Eme

Yeah, not too happy about Olivier working with this person. It is what it is.

  • Eme

Well, hope she gets to rest a bit before flying out to Sundance. Please bring more clothes for the weather, Kristen, because it’s brutal out there. This from someone who lives in CA and has trouble with anything below 50.
    And, hello HBG.

  • Anna
  • Anna

    Yeah.
But French are masters in separating person’s career and private life so here it is…………………..

  • Eme

    True.

  • BrendaStar

Thanks, Anna, for posting the premiere time.

  • Eme

Yes, thank you Anna. Also, she really doesn’t have much time between when she arrived back in LA (last night?) and when she has to fly to Sundance for her premiere. Maybe she’s already left.

  • Anna

(LAX pap video – ugh. But, HBG, in case I didn’t say it before – you are the man!)

  • Anna

    😉

  • Eme

I know nothing about Rita Ora except that she’s some singer (?) and that she was part of the Chanel show that Kristen and Julianna M. were also in.

  • Anna

I know few more things but not much (I don’t think I heard her sing like ever).
But she’s a celebrity with capital C, she cultivates her tabloid persona so, as such, she represents something Kristen kinda hates. But, who knows. She’s with Stella now, a VS model, so……………………………………….

  • MCR
  • MCR

And he does make terrific movies…

  • BrendaStar

Yes, it makes me tired just thinking about all that travelling.

  • Anna
  • Eme

Ugh! That show creeped me out! Could only stand to watch one episode – it was just too intense! And that’s coming from someone who loves intensity!

  • Eme

    Yeah, me too.

  • Anna

Just looks at stills was…ugh, no thanks. LOL
    But great acting.

  • Eme

Beautiful acting from the episode I saw. And from one of my favorite actors – Gillian Anderson. The guy that played Hannibal was good also but I couldn’t get over his creep factor.

  • Eme

LOL MCR! They messed up one of my favorite films! And that scene was nuts!

  • Anna

    Exactly.

  • Anna

I think she will head to Utah today, maybe tomorrow (like last year when she arrived on the day of CW premiere).

  • Anna

    Gillian is so so underrated.
Well, he is supposed to be that way so – goal achieved. LOL

  • Eme

Yes she is. And I want her and Kristen to act together!
Well, he achieved it so well that I don’t think I’ll ever see him as anyone else other than Hannibal L. Which was not the case for Anthony Hopkins for me.

  • Anna

    Me too!
IDK. I’ve known him before that role so he’s not Hannibal to me. Nor is Anthony.

  • BrendaStar

Lily expresses herself so well and so honestly. It was nice what she said about Kristen. Nice that she knew some of the actors from Twilight too.

  • Eme

Yes, I guess because I didn’t know him before Hannibal that I can’t see him other than the role. But I’m willing to give him another view, as long as it’s not another creepy role. Then he’ll really be typecast for me! Bbl.

  • Anna

Well, he’s known for not taking easy roles so…………………….

  • BrendaStar

Hey, I hope there is a picture somewhere of that shooting star over Lily and Kristen. That would be awesome.

  • Anna

Maybe Kelly has it but, if it exists, I doubt we are going to see it.

  • MCR

    Why, did somebody remake it?

  • BrendaStar

Silence seems really interesting, but there are a lot of young directors with new ideas and stories that need to be told. At least Scorcese got to make his passion project and did it well. The story was based on a book written by a Japanese man so there is that too. I remember seeing Scorcese promoting Indian and Asian films on movies I used to buy on video cassettes. Those films seemed so truly amazing from clips. He is a film scholar I think. I do hope he gets a nomination although there seems no interest by the film industry so far.

  • Anna

Silence is the kind of movie most need to see few times to fully absorb it. So it’s not exactly what Academy likes to go for.
As for Scorsese…he’s big enough of a name to get an Oscar nom even when his movie isn’t so we’ll see (but it’s going to be hard this year).

  • Anna
  • Guest

Supposedly she and Kristen have some mutual friends and Rita might have just been in Milan. Could just be an innocent follow after they hung out. Other options are that they’re going to work together or she’ll be Kristen’s next hookup (or both, like in St. Vincent’s case – who Kristen just unfollowed on IG).

  • Anna

Like I said, who knows. But, IMO, it does mean *something*.

(But does St. Vincent still follow her? I think it’s safe so say, she won’t take part in whatever promo Come Swim gets but I bet she will be asked about it in her own interviews for her film or next album.)

  • Guest

I think they will on Friday.

  • Eme

No, I meant the meme you just posted! Sorry I wasn’t clear in my post! Lol.

  • Guest

Idk, not every single one of Kristen’s followers means “something”. Maybe, maybe not.

Yes, St. Vincent is still following Kristen. I don’t think she’ll do any promo with Kristen and she apparently has another event elsewhere tomorrow. I think she’ll be asked about it too, and so will Kristen, but they’re both professional. St. Vincent tweeted about it after they had broken up already.

  • Anna

No. Cesar noms will be revealed next Wednesday, Jan 25th (day after Oscar noms announcements).

  • Guest

My mistake, I thought it was the 20th.

  • Anna

True. It’s just that this one is too random. Time will tell.

Interesting. Unfollowing a person but deciding not to block her so she wouldn’t be able follow you back anymore. Doesn’t make much sense but who knows.
Her movie premieres on Jan 23rd so she probably won’t go to Park City before then.
Agree. I don’t think either of them is prone to drama. But they probably will be forced to address is somehow.

  • Anna

    It’s OK.
It’s always a day after Oscar noms so it’s easy to remember.

  • Anna

Better than the first one (from Cannes) but it doesn’t really sell the movie for what it is (Dutch poster, which is kinda similar in its concept, is better as it has dark background suggesting much heavier content than a “fashion movie”).

Great quotes from reviews, though, and all from the best critics.

  • Anna

(Sorry for not answering you right away. Haven’t noticed you edited your post adding that question.)

  • Guest

I think maybe you can still technically follow someone if you’re blocked on IG. Not sure but we may have no way of knowing if she was blocked by Kristen.

  • Anna

Well, I’m not an expert when it comes to Instagram so I’ll leave it at that (but I thought is similar to the way twitter follow/unfollow/block things work).

  • Anna
  • Anna
  • Eme

That last shot! The expression in her eyes could melt a glacier! Loved, loved this shoot!

  • Anna

She *needs* to look in a movie like that!

  • Eme

OMG!!! The headband has made it’s official appearance! Cuteness overload!

  • Anna

I knew you are gonna say that! LOL

  • Eme

You know me so well! 😉

  • Anna

I think it goes the other way around as well ;P

  • Eme

    Thank you, Guest.

  • Eme

Thank you, Anna. I’ll try to remember all these tidbits of info about award season – or maybe not. My brain would explode lol!

  • Anna

I hope my head won’t (even though there are days when I feel it might). LOL

  • Eme

Please, take care of your head! We need it working always! Says one of your *minions* (couldn’t help myself – sorry).

  • Anna
  • Eme

    Love minions!

    🙂

  • Anna

(Its implications are joke, you get that right? That’s not how I see this whole thing.)

  • Eme

I didn’t know much about the film before going to see it (your comment about the torture scenes were the first I heard about them) and didn’t know it was based on a book until the credits rolled. I like reading the books before going to see the movie so it’ll be interesting to do it vice versa this time. My husband and I are still trying to digest the film.

It doesn’t look like Patti. And the woman is writing something down in the first picture, so, yeah, probably a journalist.

  • Anna

We need to get her back (minus those extensions, of course).

  • Anna

    Yup!

  • Eme

Yes, yes, yes, of course. No worries! Lol! And, it truly is somebody else’s problem if that was believed lol!!!

  • Eme

Agreed. But, I’d like her own long hair back, healthy and brunette or black (love the above look so much!).

(And it’s south of France so it kinda fits.)

  • Eme

You know, if I ever get to the south of France and see one of these outfits walking around I’m going to go into hysterics because I’ll remember your post immediately! And I hope I don’t laugh in front of him, whoever he might be (except for Olivier because, you know, the sweater).

  • Eme

I’m seeing most of these for the first time because I wasn’t following Kristen then. I really, really love these looks and sorry I missed them (but love that I can still see them here and at @adoringKS.

  • Anna

I think chances are big you are going to see something similar (I’m telling you from personal experience).

  • Eme

    Yup. My kind of aesthetic.

  • Anna

Yeah, going through archives on fansites can be fun sometimes.

  • Eme

Uh oh. Okay, I’ll work on my neutral face. Maybe I’ll go during the middle of winter when dark clothes are worn. Does the south of France get cold during the winter lol?!

  • Eme

Well, to be honest, I just see the ones that get posted currently both here and at @adoringKS. You know, lazy me. Between the both of you I get a constant diet of lovely Kristen pictures.

  • Anna

You won’t laugh, don’t worry. Somehow, it fits to everything else you can see there (at least to me).
Depends. I mean, usually it’s not cold as much as the rest of continental France. But that is probably a lot colder than what you guys in California are used to.

  • Anna

Brazilian site has good archives. IOKTBY, too (minus pap pics). Few more sites are also OK.

  • Eme

    We’re good. Lol!

  • Eme

Yup! We are very spoiled in California. Right now it’s too cold for me and it’s about 55 degrees and raining! I would probably die anywhere else. Seriously. Lol!

  • Eme

Thanks for the info, Anna. Waiting patiently for Sundance pictures and the reviews (crossing fingers both are good).

  • Anna

Most of Europe is below 0°C now so . . . stay away. LOL

  • Anna

Um, well, we might have a problem with that: no one knows how and by whom are shorts films reviewed nor where are those reviews posted. This is going to be a completely new territory for everyone, a big learning experience.

  • Eme

I like that they combined the quotes and the director awards and premieres. And I kinda like the gauzy curtain ’cause it kinda makes me think of the ghostly and other worldly vibe that has been mentioned in some of the film reviews.

  • Eme

Oh, I didn’t even think about that.

  • Anna

To me it looks more like a mystery than a horror.

  • Eme

OMG! I can’t even imagine. Wow.

  • Anna
  • Eme

I get the sense that it’s both – well, it’s been hard to nail down by critics because Olivier seems to have mixed all kinds of genres in the film – which is probably one of the reasons it’s polarizing. But, hey, my kind of thing. BBL.

  • Eme

    Hahaha! Cute.

  • nuca

I wish I were imagining, not experiencing the cold, I hate cold:)

    (read between the lines)

“First, what drives a Best Actress nomination? Love for star, love for character, love for film. Those three things almost always take precedence over how well skilled the performance was. On the flipside, if the love for the star, the character or the film is that strong, just about anyone can get nominated, whether their performance was difficult or accomplished or not. That love rules all.”

“If pure skill were the reason for picking a winner, she would win hands down but that isn’t how you find a Best Actress winner. Love for star, love for character, love for film. Those drive it more.”

    Come Swim

Kristen Stewart goes behind the camera for the first time to direct this short film about a man “underwater with heartache,” and it’s anyone’s guess what she’s got in store for us. One perk: The score was composed by St. Vincent, otherwise known as Annie Clark … and Clark has another effort at the festival, directing one of the segments of the all-female horror anthology XX.

  • Eme

Does this mean she’s at Sundance already?

  • Guest

I’m not sure if he’s interviewing her now or if he will be at a later time but I think she is there.

Ok, thank you, Guest. Wow, she didn’t get any rest time between Milan and Sundance. Hope she at least gets some sleep tonight.

  • Eme

It’s here! Sundance and Kristen’s short coming at us finally! Will be coming here off and on today because of other obligations but looking forward to updates and interesting posts when I come on! Haven’t read any articles yet but the article on her short explaining the techniques used in her short, at first glance, seems so technical and above my head – but so intriguing nonetheless. BBL.

  • Anna

I’m, for now, going by what Kristen said (‘you probably won’t like it but it’s well made’). The rest? We’ll see.

    Have a great day, Eme!

Kristen is on her way to Sundance now, arriving in the last moment. Sigh.

  • Anna

    Google translation:

    Kristen Stewart in the interview

This is your second film with the French director Olivier Assayas (“Clouds of Sils Maria”). And you even shot in Paris. What do you like about it?

I love to shoot in Paris. And I like Olivier’s style. In general, I love the European style of filmmakers, even if they are not European, such as the Brazilian director Walter Salles (“On the Road”). In Europe there is a true kinoculture, which is not often found in American films. It is not just about profit. European films are an expression of our love for cinema and art.

What you like about Paris – the city of love and fashion …

In Paris, I only wake up to life. Some of my best friends and colleagues live there. I started to learn French. Everything is very sublime and so poetic there. The ideas flow immediately when I am in Paris.

What is your relationship with fashion?

I am a big fan of this art form. At first sight, it can be very superficial to what we attract. But this daily decision in front of our wardrobe represents what is going on in us. It is a reflection of our inner self. Clothes can tell stories about us and our past. And that gives fashion an aesthetic and beauty that I find very fascinating. Some of my favorite artists are fashion designers. But I also love makeup artists or fashion photographers who can show people with their art in a whole new light. Unfortunately, there is also plenty of bullshit in the fashion world. This is the only word on how to describe the fraud in this world. There are people whose motivation for this art form is authentic, but unfortunately also many who think only of profit.

What can you tell about your character in “Personal Shopper”?

Maureen makes an identity crisis. On the one hand, she is totally fascinated by clothes; on the other hand, she rejects fashion and triggers a self-hatred in her. One reason for this is that she has only felt like a half-person since the death of her twin brother. She disputes her femininity and wants to be more and more like her brother. On the other hand, she feels more attracted to her femininity than ever before. She has to learn the meaning of her life anew. And she wants to know whether she is alone in the world, or whether there is a life after death.

Are you a fan of ghost movies?

Yes, but not because I like to be grossed out, but because these films ask existential questions. What scares us are less ghosts or the unnatural, but our ignorance of the hereafter. These are the things that rob us of sleep at night because we have no answers at hand.

How well do you understand your siblings?

We support and protect each other very much. I am the youngest in my family, but also the only girl. This often makes me feel like the older sister. So I know the discord, how one can be totally angry with his brother, but can also love him completely.

  • CJ

I think they are already there. CJ’s clothes don’t look like something he would be wearing in LA. I think this pic was taken when they were on their way from SLC airport to Park City.

Groth and Mike Plante, Sundance’s director of programming and senior programmer in charge of short films, about Come Swim:

The short film that’s getting the most attention this year is Kristen Stewart’s writing and directing debut, the 18-minute-long “Come Swim.” “It’s actually very well made,” Plante says. “And it has ideas, and it has a real cinematic quality to its story and its style.”

He and Groth insist “Come Swim” would have been selected even if it were written and directed by Jane Doe. Star power certainly helps with a film’s financing and distribution, Groth says. “But from a festival’s perspective, it really doesn’t at all. We base a film on its own individual merits, on how we think it plays and what kind of talent it showcases, whether it’s known or not. We love to discover new talent, and we love to showcase the best work of established talent.”

Only, that isn’t entirely true as, for example, Chloe Sevigny’s own short ‘Kitty’, part of this very same Shatterbox series as Come Swim, premiered in Cannes this last May so there is a short film selection in May as well.
    It’s called ‘International Critics’ Week’:
“The International Critics’ Week presents a very selective programming of only seven feature films and seven short films in Cannes so that the films can get a greater visibility.” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Critics%27_Week )

    Come Swim release info.

    @fionabologna
Tonight the first of our three @Refinery29 #SundanceFilmFest premieres is screening at Prospector Square Theatre. Directed by #KristenStewart, Come Swim is a diptych short, illustrating a surrealistic journey of one man’s struggle with daily life. It launches as part of our Shatterbox Anthology monthly series, with a mission to empower female film directors and tip the scale of Hollywood’s overwhelmingly male dominated directorial statistics. Super proud of this initiative and can’t wait to show y’all the full film when it premieres on Refinery29.com after #Cannes! 🌊🎞🎥 @Gibsonautomatic @amyemmerich

  • Anna

17 years of experience right there.

  • Eme

    Yup!

  • Eme

I am so fucking tired of these snide remarks from journalists writing about Kristen. They can never just write about her and give her respect for having talent and, yeah people, a brain that she uses. Lazy ass journalism right there, people. Yeah, I’m pissed.

  • Eme

    Another one! Assholes all!

  • Anna

They love to hate/dislike her. Almost 10 years of pretty much all the same BS has its consequences.
Plus, good journalism in general is long gone.

  • Eme

Which is a shame and scary at the same time. Because if we ever needed *good* journalists, it is now. Journalists who research, research, research, find evidence, utilize critical thinking skills to put out fair, unbiased and truthful writings that can be supported by facts.
*Journalists* (and, believe me, I’m giving some of them way too much credit by using that term) are on my sh*t list today (and probably forever judging by what they are putting out lately.).

I said it was nothing bad.
By those suggestions I can see how high opinion about Kristen you have (or should I say low?). RME

  • Guest

I missed the “nothing bad” but if Alicia is choosing today to meltdown then I would think it was bad from Alicia’s standpoint. Kristen blocked St. Vincent today, so…

  • Anna

You don’t have to do anything bad for someone else to feel hurt.
And who knows, maybe I’m wrong which means she’s just that childish naturally.
(I’ve heard about St. Vincent. And it makes sense, why would she still have access to Kristen’s IG. The only one who is minding her own business is Soko. Funny how’s that turned out to be in the end. LOL)

  • Anna

I got that but her sense of humor comes out as way too dry sometimes so she needs to be careful.

  • Anna

    You saw this: http://polaroidsays.tumblr.com ?
Have you read what’s on those drawings and posts’ titles? All of them from today are a super clear shade aimed at Kristen.

  • Eme

Hi guys. Checking in and trying to catch up with all the posts. Thank you Anna for all the work bringing us all the Sundance news and updates. Hope we get some idea what reactions were from someone today (maybe they’ll need a few hours to digest before posting reactions).
Kristen looked good. Sigh, the headband is the new hat.

  • Anna

Man, I’ll have to be the one to stand for that headband. Alone. Again. Just like I did with the infamous hat. Poor ugly things.

(BTW, I gave a link to that tumblr account below.)

  • Eme

I actually liked her outfit (and I thought perhaps that was what she would wear at the premiere when I saw the airport pics because I thought she looked a bit more put together in those pics than usual). Another type of shoe would probably have elevated the look a bit (like those boots she had on in the pics from 2012 Mulberry party posted yesterday by Anna) but otherwise – clothes are definitely not on the cheap lol!

  • Anna

I thought the exact same thing and that’s why I said it was no surprise.
Agree about the shoes. And better hair, too.

  • Eme

Honestly, I think it’s the anxiety and the inability to control it at that moment so she goes for humor. Of course, that’s just my opinion – I could be totally wrong. It’s what makes sense to me so . . . .

  • Eme

Let’s not even talk about the hair because, you know, the headband again.

  • Anna

I don’t see it. After I gave you a direct link, no googling needed?

  • Anna

Your loss. I’m gonna stay on their side because those are close to Kristen. So I win ;P

  • Stephanie

Oh hello Eme. Hope you can relax now and enjoy all the Kristen’Stewart pictures from Anna’ posts. I’m doing well. Thank you.

  • Anna

Agree, I think that is why she’s doing it but she needs to learn another way to channel that nervous energy (why not slip into a character for a few minutes, for example?).

  • Eme

Awww, you do not play fair!! But you’re right. The uglies are close to Kristen, unfortunately. But I maintain hope that someday the beanies will be back, I dream of cool headbands not stuck in the 80’s and maybe even long locks to go with edgy head gear. Hey, a girl can dream!!

Shampoo thing => Kristen your hair is dirty; short film drawing is obvious; July 10th and “I miss you” also obvious, ect. All from today.

  • Eme

Yuck! Kristen don’t get too close he has cooties! And he doesn’t deserve that beautiful expression you have on your face!

  • Anna

Max Theriot, her co-star from Catch That Kid who became one of her best friends after that. She was at his wedding right after her breakup with Pattinson in 2013 (remember those pics?). She named her cat after him and he named his cat after her.

  • Eme

Okay, I did think all of those when I saw the pics – couldn’t believe the shampoo one (that’s a bit low even though, let’s face it, some truth, but still); I got the short film; I guess July 10th was when they broke up(?). So, why now? I mean, it’s been since July and two *relationships* later?

She planned it, obviously. For maximum attention. Like I said, such a child.

  • Eme

And here I thought she was a stable influence. But still, what got her goat? Because of Sundance and the short film? Or, did she do work on the film and didn’t get the credit? I’m just speculating because clearly she’s pissed about something.

  • Eme

Man, the drama keeps coming! Music is beautiful, people. Just enjoy. No need for tears. Everyone is fine. Lol.

  • Anna

Same, I thought she was the most mature of all. And maybe she still is. Love or what one thinks is love (but might be unhealthy obsession instead) can make people do stupid things.
What pushed her over the edge? It might be this one thing Kristen did (maybe!) or she simply has issues.
I don’t think it has to do with Come Swim directly as I don’t believe Kristen wouldn’t give her credit (Alica can always sue Kristen in that case).

  • Eme

Yeah, I really didn’t think Kristen would not give credit where credit is due. She’s not that way at all. Was just speculating. And I guess you can’t say what that thing Kristen might have done until it’s 100% proven. I’ll wait. But, honestly, I am very, very curious!!

  • nuca

Anna, do you know if short film get the same kind of reviews that long movies do? or is it different because of the size?

  • Anna

As soon as I find out, whether it turns out I’m right or not, I’ll tell you.
It’s nothing big. Well, I don’t think it is. But it might be for Alicia.

  • Eme

    Clearly lol!!

  • Anna

    Different.
And I have no idea where those reviews are supposed to be posted.

    Lyrics, those damn lyrics. LOL

TY! At least we will have some kind of reactions, I’m already dying from curiosity

  • Anna

    You are welcome.
Me too! But all we can do is wait. And not expect much because it’s just a short.

  • nuca

I know, but it’s a start. I believe she will direct

full-length film when she has enough experience for it, baby steps:)

    Agree.

    🙂

  • BrendaStar

Kristen is dressed in a style compatible with the others.

  • BrendaStar

The director looks tired, but very alert and present in front of the press. The headband was a good idea too.

Daily Mail has an article about Kristen at Sundance including some nice pics (as well as the silly one). http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-4138986/Kristen-Stewart-shines-Sundance-premiere-film.html

  • BrendaStar

Haha! I am too tired to look at it. It is always true tho that Marc Malkin does not deserve Kristen’s smiles or sweet glances:-) EDIT: LOL I looked when I realized it was just a pic and mot a video.

  • BrendaStar

Best pic I’ve seen too! DM pics aren’t bad tho.

  • BrendaStar

    Seriously!?

  • BrendaStar

Her hair sort of looked like that during her Runaways phase. Back then I always thought it might be her hair product, but now I think you may be right, or maybe this is a new phase. Anyway, I love the head band because it covers/hides some of her hair.

  • nuca

Thank you for the info.. guess it is what was expected: great visuals.. what I don’t understand is: how would you evaluate a script/plot of a film only 17 minutes long? how is it possible to fit in a solid story in 17 minutes?

  • MCR

Yep; Sundance seems to be a very casual film festival.

  • MCR

Okay, I gave in an followed your link, and I think you’re reaching. I don’t know anything about the woman’s life, so I can’t speculate on what any of it means; but not only are those supposed slams pretty vague (the ‘short film’ thing, the closest real connection, is also a pun) but those are preceded by a couple of apparent love messages to another party. You may or may not be right about what these posts mean, but not about it being obvious, IMO.

  • MCR

I’ve seen shorts that manage to tell a fairly complex story in only 15-20 minutes, especially if it’s the story of a brief, ‘slice of life’ kind of event.

  • nuca

Well I obviously have not seen Come Swim, but as it is based on poem, I think it’s supposed to be something abstract, without any defined plot and ending.. kind of something to feel, not analyze.. well, we will see, I can be wrong:)

  • MCR

Oh yeah, I gather Come Swim is supposed to be sort of impressionist, not a clear-cut story. I was talking about short movies in general. (But I’m very curious to see what she’s done with it.)

  • nuca

Yeah, I understand:) I have never been interested in shorts, unfortunately.. I just was surprised that the author critisized the plot, guess we will see what he was talking about when the movie comes out

  • Eme

Lol! It’s ok, Brenda. Tired will do that to you!

  • Eme

Agree, Brenda. There are some nice pics of her last night and she seemed her usual lovely, nervous self in front of press and audience. And the headband was part of the hairstyle . . . I guess it’s growing on me (sort of).

  • Eme

I agree, nuca. Poetry has always been about emotions and “the feels” so the short, based on a poem and a picture, is going to defy any effort to analyze by *plot*. I am very curious to see it.

  • Anna

[That darn pic from the premiere is everywhere. Great, Kristen, just great. You make news about co-writing an article about AI only to have everyone thinking how childish/weird/crazy/acting out you are next day. One step forward, three steps back.]

She was right. It seems people/critics won’t like it but it does look good visually.

Come Swim review from The Wrap: negative.

“Actress Kristen Stewart screened her directorial debut Thursday night at the Sundance Film Festival — a visceral short called “Come Swim” that held its water, but one easily upstaged by other entries from opening night.

Stewart served as both writer and director for the project, a look at a day in the life of a struggling young man (Josh Kaye).

With what he’s struggling is entirely unclear — a woman’s voice narrates most of the film, and longing glances at photographs on his wall lead us to believe she’s his long lost love.

There are also hints he might be tangling with addiction, as he lives in squalor, appears sickly and drinks gallons and gallons of bottled water, crunching and tossing the plastic containers like bones when he’s had his fill.

The imagery is strong, Stewart obviously worked well with DP John Guleserian and visual effects house Framestore for the abstract piece — but the movie is literally drenched. There is no subtlety in the constant rushing of oceans waves, rainstorms, baths and sinks and showers and those aforementioned bottles of water littering every shot.

In fairness to the former “Twilight Saga” lead, seven total shorts were screened along with hers — and the three that proceeded “Come Swim” were particularly strong.”

[Also, if she really wants to be a director, she needs to be far far more patient and welcoming to public’s questions. They way she acted last night…being nervous can’t be excuse for all of that. You can’t say FU to a person if you don’t like their question/think it’s stupid. And she was at a small venue, surrounded by other authors so it’s not like she was forced to stand there all alone and address huge unfriendly audience. Even if the realization that her short won’t be received well happened to her right there on the spot, it can’t be an excuse. She acted like a real brat in some moments. Maybe she was thinking that she is joking but quite a few people don’t see that kind of behavior/vocabulary coming from a 26 yo as funny or cool. Add to that how she’s acting while on r
